Chapter 22: Goodbye

Amber’s mouth widened in surprise. For a moment, she didn’t even speak as she was too stunned by the information.

She looked down at Silver’s face, trying to see through her, and smiled, "I should have guessed earlier with those signature silver eyes."

Others might not understand what being family of Jade meant, but she knew. She could see that Silver wasn’t related to Jade by blood.

Jade didn’t have any close relatives left.

It meant she was willing to acknowledge this girl as her family and was willing to take her under her protection.

[Take care of her.]

"Oh, I will, don’t worry. But I can’t do anything for now," Amber said with a sigh.

[I understand that, Sister. I’m just asking you to guard her body properly. I will find her Soul in the Primordial Expanse.]

"Then, you have no worries here. As long as I’m alive, she will be safe," Amber said seriously.

[I know I can trust you. That’s why I called you.]

Amber hummed and turned her gaze towards the young man who had impressed her earlier in the day.

"What about this young man? Can he also be counted in your family?"

[Yes. But you don’t need to give him any preferential treatment. Just let him do whatever he wants.]

Amber’s lips curled up hearing that. Others might mistake her words as her telling Amber not to give better treatment. But she knew what she meant by that.

"He’s pretty interesting though, so I can’t help but become interested in him."

[Amber! I dare you to lay your fingers on him.]

"Relax. He’s not some frail toy," Amber rolled her eyes at her friend’s overprotective behavior. "Besides, he also wants to enter the dungeon and Primordial Expanse. I won’t deny his entry even if it means sending him to his death."

[He wants what? What?]

"Why are you so surprised? He’s talented and has good mentality. He’ll survive," Amber said. "Do you know what I see in his eyes currently?"

[What?]

"Confidence and determination," Amber said. "That’s rare considering he’s bidding farewell to his friend."

[Amber!]

"Fine! Why do you always ruin the fun?" Amber sighed, putting all of her weight on the railings. "He’s a good kid, so let him live the way he wants, and by that, I mean if he comes to me for guidance, I will give my all. You know how I am."

[I know you more than you know yourself. Isn’t that why I’m worried about him?]

"As I said, relax. I don’t push my students to death even if my past says something else," Amber said calmly. "Give him some time. Also, find Silver quickly because my class just lost its Ace."

[You still care about all that class crap?]

"I know how to respect legacies, unlike you," Amber snorted. "Anyways, when are you getting free? This older sister will treat you to a meal."

[First get over your old-fashioned obsession. When are you even throwing away that metal box?]

Amber’s lips twitched as Jade was calling her phone the metal box. She retorted, "I’ll throw it away the day you lose your virginity."

[Scram!!]

With that, she hung up the call.

Amber clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction, "Burning the bridge after crossing it. That’s so like you, little sister."

She then looked at Silver again, and now she could see the similarities. No wonder even Jade was protecting her. She belonged to that family.

As for Jade’s words, Amber understood them well. Jade was strong and had many connections, but she would probably use her everything to find Silver in the Primordial Expanse, so she needed someone to keep an eye on Silver’s body here.

Even if this was the Academy, powerful people could easily find a way to destroy the body.

It would cause either of these two outcomes. In the best-case scenario, she would die, and in the worst-case scenario, she would survive but would be left to wander around in the Primordial Expanse.

And without a subtle Anchor to their physical body, surviving in the Primordial Expanse was nigh impossible.

She continued to stare at Silver’s face and thought, ’I hope you survive. It’s been a while since Jade actually considered someone her family.’

Her gaze shifted again to Leon, who was talking to Silver even though she couldn’t respond. But the fact that the portal didn’t turn dormant meant she was still here.

She hadn’t slept yet and was listening to all his nonsense.

"Wait! Do these two even know about their new family?" Amber suddenly had that thought and quickly contacted Jade.

[What is it?]

"Are they aware of you?"

[No. And don’t tell them anything. I’ll talk to them myself.]

"That’s surprising," Amber smiled. "Well, I wish you good luck then."

[Yeah yeah...]

Amber shook her head at her friend and dialed another number after hanging up on Jade.

Putting the metal box on her ear, she commanded, "Keep an eye on Silver and the whole Dormant Hall in general. Report to me if you find any abnormalities."

She paused and spoke again in a cold, chilling voice, "If anything happens to her, then you all can prepare your funeral."

Meanwhile, Leon was still rambling on whatever nonsense his brain was cooking because he wanted to give Silver some company.

It was then he noticed some movement from Silver’s hand as the black hole in her palm convulsed and began to expand.

The darkness spread outward and soon covered Silver’s whole body in a sphere of pitch-black color.

Looking at the black sphere, Leon was reminded of the darkness that chased after him before he died on Earth.

’There is definitely some connection between them.’

Leon fell silent as the staff slowly left the room. There was nothing left to do here except for waiting.

His gaze hardened as he clenched his fists and said, "You better follow the plot and survive, otherwise I’ll haunt your spirit."

With that, he also left the Dormant Hall in a bad mood. Even if he had come to terms with the situation, he still couldn’t bring himself to feel anything good.

His partner was most likely fighting for her life out there all alone, so how could he feel good about it?

He took a deep breath and said to himself as he forced out a smile, "Why am I such an idiot? She likes my smile, so why am I frowning so much?"

His smile turned into a grin as his resolve to get stronger increased.

He headed straight towards the dorms.

He was eager to enter the dungeon again.
