Chapter 21: Chosen One

Since Silver’s condition was worsening by the second, Leon let the Law Enforcement Hall members do their work. Along with maintaining the rules in the Academy, they were also tasked with taking care of all the Carriers who were chosen by the Primordial Expanse.

They had the means to detect the changes brought by the Call, so it wasn’t surprising to see how quickly they acted. After all, as the gathering place of young geniuses, the Academy had very high chances of seeing these chosen ones, so they were always ready to take care of such situations.

Although they didn’t have any solutions for it, the Academy had made a separate area known as the Dormant Hall whose only function was to keep the Carriers in check.

After all, if they died in the Primordial Expanse, then the Dormant Portal would manifest truly and bring forth immense destruction.

The Dormant Hall was meant to keep that destruction under control.

So now they were sitting in one of the rooms of the Dormant Hall with a glass roof, metal wall on three sides, and once again a full glass wall in front from where one could monitor the Carriers.

Currently, Silver was being tied up on a chair with various wires and a few Artefacts which had glowing Runes on them.

Obviously, the Academy would try their best to keep the destruction minimal, and if Leon had to take a guess, then he was sure that these Artefacts were used to destroy the body when the Carrier died.

This way, the chances of Portal Manifestation would be lower. But it wasn’t usually possible because the Dormant Portal protected the body.

Leon sat on a stool beside her, holding her hand tightly as he stared at her with a sweet, loving smile on his face.

"Leo, I really want a date in the Primordial Expanse," Silver said, trying her best not to close her eyes.

She knew once she did that, she would be transported to the Corrupted Land. She was scared, not because she would be thrown into a dangerous world, but because she would be leaving Leon.

But she didn’t want to show it. She had confidence in herself that as long as she wasn’t killed instantly, she would crawl out of any hole for her family.

"You wanna take me with you to that place? For what? My weak ass will die in no time," Leon retorted.

"Hehe, then I can boast to the world that we died together," she giggled to herself as her eyelids grew heavy.

A man wearing a white lab coat adjusted his black-rimmed glasses and said, "I think it’s best if you leave the room, Mr. Leon. It won’t take long before the Portal turns dormant."

Leon’s grip on her hand tightened unconsciously. He didn’t want to let it go. It was such a hard feeling for someone like him who had spent most of his life alone.

"My dear Leo, don’t be scared. Big Sister will bring you lots of toys to play with from the trip," Silver muttered as she closed her eyes. "So just let me go for now."

Leon sighed and stood up. He patted the calloused hand, kissed her forehead and then whispered, "I’ll be waiting, and if you dare make me wait long, I’ll personally come to ruin this trip of yours."

He meant every word he spoke. The only reason he was truly holding himself back was because he was too weak. But with the help of the Dungeon, it was only a matter of time before he became stronger.

So what if he had to die again and experience hellish pain?

For the first time in his life, he truly felt like cherishing someone, so he would truly cherish her.

He was a stubborn person and he had already decided to be her partner, so he would do anything to make it real.

Silver hummed, and he could see her frown loosening upon hearing his voice and feeling the warmth of his hand. A warm, sweet smile formed on her lips, as if she was dreaming something sweet.

He kissed her forehead again and left the room reluctantly. As much as he was confident in her and knew she would survive, his heart couldn’t help but worry.

He had a thousand reasons to believe that she would be alright, yet his mind was going towards the negative things.

The moment he stepped outside the room, Leon slapped himself hard on his cheeks as everything vanished for a moment.

His actions alarmed the staff, but they didn’t do anything. They were used to situations worse than this and were actually surprised at how well Leon and Silver handled it.

Leon was trying to give himself some pep talk, so he didn’t see the figure standing on the floor right above his. The figure was looking down on the situation through the glass ceiling.

Amber leaned on the railing as she stared at Silver’s face calmly before sighing, "What a pity that you also caught the attention of it."

She didn’t think much of the situation and felt nothing but pity for the girl, and also a little disappointment. After all, Silver was still a prodigy, and Amber would have loved to nurture her.

"Perhaps the world can shape you better," her lips curled up when she thought of that.

Just as she was about to turn her focus towards the young man on the other side of the glass screen, her phone rang, which surprised her.

After all, not many had her personal number.

Her eyes widened slightly when she saw the caller ID and picked it up with a toothy grin on her face, "Yo! I never expected you to miss me, Jade. How many years has it been since you called me?"

[Do I look like someone who will miss anyone?]

Amber pursed her lips to hide her smile. Indeed, since when did Jade Cross begin to miss anyone?

"Then why did you call me?"

She didn’t hear anything for a while, but she waited patiently for the other side to speak.

[Is there anyone named Silver who recently got chosen by the shitty land?]

Amber raised an eyebrow in surprise and asked, "Yes. But what does that have to do with you?"

[She’s from my Family.]
