Chapter 20: Call From Corrupted Land

The Primordial Expanse was an ever-expanding realm and was just an amalgamation of every world the Apocalypse and Corruption had destroyed.

Earth would face the same fate if they didn’t find a way to defeat the Corruption.

There were mainly two ways one could enter this strange land. The first was through the Rifts opened on Earth, which would spew out Abyssal Creatures from that world.

It also worked as a portal through which humans could travel to the Primordial Expanse.

The other was a much crueler way, which practically nobody wanted.

It was to get chosen by the Primordial Expanse.

Once someone was chosen by it, they would get a mark on their body which would force them to slowly fall into a deep sleep.

Once that happened, a portal would cover their body and send them randomly anywhere in the vast Primordial Expanse and stay dormant in place of their bodies.

It would stay like that until the said chosen one either died in that Corrupted World or managed to find an Anchor through which they could return to their world.

But if they died, the portal would turn real and begin to spew out Abyssal Creatures onto Earth.

This was one of the main reasons Earth lost against the Abyssal Creatures initially, even though they had many types of dangerous weapons.

Call of Primordial Expanse was a thing everyone dreaded, even those who wanted to explore the Corrupted Land.

After all, if they passed through the safe portals, they would reach the safer zones of the Primordial Expanse which had already been conquered by the humans.

But if they were chosen, then there were very high chances that they would be thrown into an area full of dreadful Abyssal Creatures.

One had to know that the Primordial Expanse was a land where even Tier 16 Corrupted beings wandered around way too often. Just their presence was enough to kill many humans, even if they were Awakened.

The only relief to this situation was that only Awakened below Tier 5 had the chance of being chosen by the Primordial Expanse. So once someone passed that, they would be in the clear for the rest of their life.

They could just stay in Safe Fortress Cities on Earth all their life.

This was also the reason why the male population was declining so much. After all, the virus favoured women, but the Primordial Expanse was neutral.

Men and women both had equal chances of being chosen, and most of the time, men never made it out alive.

The most common reason was their low level and the fact was that they couldn’t level up there like women, so even if they wanted to fight their way out, it was a hopeless situation.

The only ones who survived in those situations were the lucky ones who got sent over to safer locations.

All of this passed through Leon’s mind as he stared at Silver’s palm, which had a dark black hole. It emitted a deathly aura that sent chills down his spine.

But he didn’t care about his own condition.

His heart was sinking in realization. His grip on Silver’s shoulders tightened as if he were afraid she would get swallowed up by that hole and he would lose her.

He really didn’t want to believe that she was chosen by the Primordial Expanse, and judging by her condition, he was sure she didn’t have much time left.

Leon felt his chest getting heavy. He was reincarnated in this world technically and only awakened his memories later on, which meant he was the same person who grew up with Silver.

His feelings for her were genuine and perhaps even more now, as he understood her better. He really loved her, and seeing her in this state was breaking him from inside.

Just the thought that she was standing at death’s door was wreaking havoc in his mind. Without even realizing it, he was sweating hard, and his heartbeat was increasing rapidly.

"Ahh! It seems it’s finally my time!"

All of a sudden, he heard that familiar, cheeky, and cheerful voice, making his heart calm down. It was really a wonder how just listening to her voice had such an effect on him.

He took deep breaths and turned towards Silver, who was also staring at her hand with a complicated look on her face.

Leon could clearly see her emotions in her eyes, but she was trying to hide it for his sake. She didn’t want him to worry even at this moment.

’Calm down. For fuck’s sake, calm down.’

He reminded himself and spoke, "Your condition is worsening, so it’s best we take you to the Dormant Hall!"

"I know. What a bummer!" she sighed and wrapped her arms around Leon’s neck as he picked her up in a princess carry. "We just got together."

He raised an eyebrow in surprise as he looked into her eyes once again. This time, he found sadness along with indifference, which was a strange combination.

"Just come back quickly from your trip then," Leon snorted. "Then we can go on dates."

"Why don’t you accompany me on my trip?" Silver smiled and asked.

"I don’t like gloomy and depressed places for dates," Leon said, turning towards the door.

He was now truly calm and thinking rationally. He had just remembered a few details from the game, which relaxed his worried heart.

Besides, Silver was a cheerful ball of sunshine, so he wanted to say goodbye to her in a good mood.

Just then, the private room’s door opened as a team of women walked in with various types of equipment in their hands. Their whole bodies were covered in black suits, including their faces except for their eyes.

"My dear Leo, I didn’t think we would get arrested on our first date. Isn’t that exciting?" Silver giggled in his arms.

Leon rolled his eyes at her antics. Only someone like her could joke around even in this situation. Well, she never liked sad or depressed atmospheres or even serious ones.

"We detected a Call from this place. Can I assume that the girl in your arms is the Carrier?"

One of the black figures stepped forward and asked in a neutral tone.

Leon nodded and said calmly, "Relax. I was just going to bring her to the Dormant Hall. Her condition isn’t that bad yet."

The woman gave a glance at Silver and shook her head. "No, her condition is terrible. In a few minutes, she will lose consciousness and the portal will become dormant."
