Chapter 80: Blackheart Guild Training Event
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Blackheart Guild Training Event
Half an hour later, the horde of beasts were successfully subjugated.
Sitting amongst the mountain of corpses was the group of third years who finally got the chance to take a break.
Landur and Jayce were busy trying to cook one of the Red Fur Beasts.
Sitting across from them, the blonde student was also gazing over with a bit of drool at the side of her mouth. In the academy, there was no difference between men and women so even she had to suffer through the pain of not having enough points to buy food.
"I say Landur, when is it going to be finished?" She asked as she wiped the saliva that almost fell from her mouth.
"Shush, Hana! Cooking monster meat is a delicate art and takes some time. If I’m not careful I could ruin the flavor and texture of the meat in an instant."
Hearing this, Hana helplessly shook her head.
"Maybe I should have taken some classes on Monster cooking when I was in my first year. At least that way I won’t be as helpless as I am right now. What do you think, Gwen?"
Hearing Hana’s question, the silver haired woman sitting atop a fallen tree trunk looked over.
"I guess it could have made a difference, but isn’t it already enough as long as someone in your team has taken the course before?"
"Of course it isn’t! With more people we could cook twice as much as before and be twice as full!"
Upon hearing Hana’s gluttonous words, Gwen and the rest laughed out loud.
"Alright, Alright. Maybe it does make a difference."
"Speaking of which, how many points do you have now, Gwen? Do you think you have enough to spare for a little bit of booze?"
Jayce suddenly spoke out amongst the laughter.
"Don’t even mention it! The last time we drank together we barely managed to buy two bottles with our spare points combined. We were supposed to share those bottles equally amongst us four but you drank an entire bottle by yourself!"
Hana shouted back at Jayce upon hearing his questions.
"Fine. I admit it was my bad, but that’s the past, now is the present. You never heard of the saying, live in the moment?"
Hearing this, Hana looked away disdainfully.
Gwen laughed upon seeing this before shaking her head.
"Unfortunately, I still don’t have enough points to spare to buy even half a bottle."
Jayce sighed helplessly upon hearing this and he went back to looking at the slowly roasting red fur beast meat.
In about an hour a boat would arrive off shore of the small island and take them back to the nearest teleport station to return to the academy.
While they waited, Hana opened up her wrist band and browsed through the academy’s forum. There usually wasn’t anything too interesting posted there but Hana liked to scroll through it when she had nothing better to do.
It was there that she saw a piece of news that left her particularly stunned.
After recovering from her daze, she quickly started to search through the available student information on the academy profiles to verify the claims on the form.
It didn’t take long before she found the student she was looking for and after checking the verified information, she was even more stunned than when she first saw it.
"Hmm? Hana, is something wrong?" Gwen noticed Hana’s gaze and called out.
Gwen’s voice seemed to have brought her back to reality causing her to look up with a wired gaze.
Landur and Jayce also noticed this and looked over curiously.
"There seems to be an... awakened student among the current first years."
"Hmm? An awakened, huh? That doesn’t sound too surprising. I mean, we already have an awakened student in our year so I don’t understand your wired reaction."
Landur spoke as he carefully turned the meat roasting on the fire.
"This first year also advanced to the Martial Warrior Realm yesterday."
Almost immediately, Landur’s hand that was holding the meat shook violently.
"THE MEAT!"
Hana and Jayce shouted out instantly upon seeing this.
If anything happened to that meat and they couldn’t eat it today, they were afraid that they wouldn’t get another chance to eat for another week.
Landur immediately realized his mistake and hurried to salvage the situation. Luckily nothing happened to the meat and he continued to cook it carefully.
But even still, Landur’s mind was still buzzing with Hana’s words.
A first year Martial Warrior?
"Are you serious Hana?" Suddenly Gwen asked with a serious expression on her face.
"Yeah, I’m dead serious. She’s a first year student who started attending the academy a week ago but only yesterday it seems that her strength shot up astronomically after awakening. From word on the form, it seems that she completed the advancement from not evening being considered a low tier Martial Apprentice to straight away being a Martial Warrior."
"God damn, it seems that we’ve really entered the era of geniuses and monsters."
"What do you mean we really entered? Weren’t we already in the era when our generation started acting up?"
Landur and Jayce started bickering but no one noticed the subtle smile that appeared on Gwen’s face.
"It seems like I can have a bit more fun before I graduate."
...
Lake got up from behind his desk and stretched, causing his bones to emit several cracking sounds.
Ever since he sat down yesterday, he hadn’t moved from his table for a full twenty four hours. Seeing that it was already the next day and that he had mandatory Mana Theory class this morning, Lake got up and cleaned himself up.
After a full day of work, Lake managed to get most of the legwork finished with the reworked Mana Circulation Skill. During the process he had figured out all the materials he would need to complete the transformation and had already sent them to Kate.
Now all that’s left was to wait for the material to arrive and complete some of the finer details of the mana flow.
After Lake cleaned up, he left for class, however he still felt a bit uneasy for some reason as if he had forgotten something.
When he finally arrived at class he finally remembered what he had forgotten as he saw the trio of fairies being surrounded by the group of students.
Lake’s mouth twitched slightly.
He had been thinking too much about the quest that he had forgotten about the entire new race that had entered the academy the day before.
Shaking his head, Lake walked up to a seat a distance away from the group of fairies. Coincidentally, he sat down next to a group of boys who had a dead look on their face as if the world had forsaken them.
"You..."
Hearing the group of boys call out to him like a bunch of hungry ghosts, Lake was a little befuddled but before he could even ask what’s wrong or observe their fate to find out, another voice called out to him.
"Good morning."
Looking over, Lake could see that Kate had suddenly appeared in the classroom and sat next to him.
The group of boys who were looking at him like vengeful ghosts instantly calmed down upon seeing Kate’s calm face.
Without a word, they each turned forward and waited for class to start.
Although they hated Lake, they weren’t about to jump out in front of a Martial Warrior who was from the same faction as him. After all, the rumor that Lake was a part of Kate’s Blackheart Guild was still floating around.
After that small incident, Kate opened her wrist band interface before sending over a file directly to Lake.
"What do you think?"
Hearing her question, Lake looked over curiously at his wrist band before checking the file Kate sent over.
After glimpsing through it, he immediately realized its purpose.
This was a training event supposedly organized under the name of the Blackheart Guild. It had the promise that whoever completed the training course under the leadership of Kate Blackheart, the representative of the guild and a special guest instructor, would have a guaranteed chance to enter the Blackheart Guild in the future.
Smiling, Lake responded as he placed up a small sound barrier spell around him and her, "I think it’s a good plan to start out, but aren’t you taking a big risk by placing the guarantee recruitment notice? What if things don’t work out as you expect?"
"Call it trust after experiencing the effects first hand. And either way, it’s a favor I owe you, I should do my best to return it."
"What about the reaction from your guild? Will your father be okay with you pulling something like this?"
"As long as the results are there, he won’t be able to win an argument against me."
Hearing her arrogant words, Lake smiled as he already knew the kind of relationship there was between father and daughter.
"When do you think you can implement it?"
"Next week at the latest. End of this week at the earliest. After all, we should take the time to gather as big a crowd before implementing the program. I have a feeling if people knew you were the special instructor before the effects of the training was known, less people are going to show up even with the guarantee recruitment notice."
"Can’t argue there. Time is limited however so try to get as much as possible within a week. I’ll prepare the material for the first session by that time."
Hearing this, Kate looked over curiously, "I wonder why you’re in such a rush?"
When Lake heard this he paused for a bit before replying as he took down the sound barrier spell.
"Call it a premonition."
Hearing his words, Kate wanted to ask what he meant by it but the sound barrier had already been dropped allowing for Kate to hear the group of students that had gathered around the two of them.
"Kate! Is it true that your guild is holding a training event in the academy?!"
"Is the guarantee accepted into the guild legit?"
"When is the first session?! When I first saw the notice I knew I had to participate."
"Will we have the same effects at the training you went through to break through to the Martial Warrior Realm?"
"Speaking of that, how was your advancement, you didn’t come to class yesterday so we didn’t have the chance to ask you?"
Hearing the bombardment of questions, Kate felt a slight headache but still answered them all patiently.
Lake only smiled silently as he moved further away, not wanting to be swallowed by the slowly increasing horde as more and more people noticed Kate inside the classroom.
After all, it’s only been two days since she advanced to the Martial Warrior realm while still being a first year. A lot of people wanted to know how she did it and more importantly, know if they could replicate it.
