Chapter 73: Chapter 73: New System Quest

As the class ended, Lake sat in his seat and pondered the upcoming exam.

It’s been a week since the new semester started and the first exam that the academy had planned for them was approaching.

Team Monster Hunting.

As its name implies, it was an exam where students were placed in a group of four and sent out to deal with a group of captured monsters.

These groups consist of several low rank monsters led by a singular Rank One boss monster.

The exam also functioned as a method to encourage teamwork and tactical thinking among students as they came up with strategies to clear the group of monsters.

Honestly, Lake had nothing to worry about for this event as even if his teammates did nothing, he could clear the entire field by himself.

However, what worried him wasn’t the event, but the Instructors.

These events were planned for each class separately with the class teacher being the one responsible for designing the exam. Because of this, Lake knew nothing about the details of the exam since he was unable to read Alec’s fate!

Knowing the instructors, Lake didn’t trust them one bit to keep the so-called settings for the exam the same as stated.

But since there was nothing Lake could do about it for now, he decided to just wait until the exam came. Everything would be revealed then.

As Lake was about to get up to head to his next class, he noticed a commotion behind him.

Turning around, he could see a few students had surrounded the three fairies.

Lake didn’t plan to interrupt and turned to leave.

Although he was a little upset about what Sylph did at the start of the class, he would rather not deal with someone whose fate he couldn’t read and decided to keep his distance.

However, Lake didn’t get far before he heard a sound he hadn’t heard for a while now.

[Ding!]

"..."

Lake stood in place for a long time with his eyes wide as he looked at the window that appeared in front of him.

After what felt like an eternity, Lake blinked as all the information he had just absorbed rushed to his head as his brain started to go into overdrive.

"What the fuck?

Unforeseen disaster? What’s with that? What kind of fucking heaven defying disaster did the system detect for it to need me to be a Martial Grandmaster?

Is the world going to end? Was it the coming of the 2nd Disaster?

It also needs me to achieve Martial Grandmaster within a year? Do you think Martial Grandmaster is something that could be achieved within a year? I’ll have you know that most Martial Grandmasters are in their fifties while I’m still only 18!

And what’s with the other objective?

At least fifty Martial Masters? Do you think Martial Masters are like cabbages? Fucking everywhere? At most there were only twenty Martial Masters within the academy grounds, and all of them were instructors.

Where the hell am I supposed to find the remaining thirty? Do you expect me to pull them out of thin air?

What about the last one? High Rank Martial Warriors and you want a hundred of them?

Alright, I give. You, System, have thoroughly destroyed my confidence."

Lake sighed as he reached this point. The only comfort he has left now was the reward, a high rank role. Although it was only a single role, Lake dared not underestimate it.

One has to know that his Master of Fate was also a high rank role and the capabilities it showed so far can be described as godly.

If he could get his hands on something of a similar level, Lake would be jumping with joy.

However, it seemed that the quest this time to get it was almost impossibly difficult.

With another sigh, Lake started to think about this so-called hidden disaster.

It seemed that the academy wasn’t as safe as he originally thought.

Without any choice, Lake started to walk towards his next class, brainstorming ways of how he was going to complete this impossible quest.

...

Lake sat in the class, not paying attention at all to the instructor in front. His mind was fully occupied by how to complete the quest.

Although advancing to the Martial Grandmaster Realm within a year seemed like a challenge, Lake felt that he could figure out something since he had the support of the system’s skills to speed up his advancement.

However, the main difficulty with this quest came from gathering allies, specifically strong allies.

Lake had thought of a few methods to achieve the objectives.

The first was to hire Martial Masters and High Rank Martial Warriors to be his allies.

This method was the simplest one Lake thought of and didn’t involve anything too complicated. The problem with it however, was that the amount of money required would be astronomical, even if it was only to hire them for a month.

After all, across the entire Grey Dragon Continent, there were only ten thousand Martial Masters. Each of these Masters work either in a guild or for the government with only a few who were still free.

The ones that were free act as sort of mercenaries for hire for the various guilds. Their strength can be described as moderate but they were extremely rare and require an insane amount of money to hire. To hire fifty of them, Lake could only imagine the mountain of money he would need and that’s not even counting the money required for a hundred High Rank Martial Warriors.

However, even if Lake had the money to afford all of that, he wasn’t sure if they would allow so many high level martial artists enter the academy in case they thought he was a terrorist attacking the academy.

For similar reasons, the option of joining a guild early and using them to safeguard him was also out of the question. Not to mention that there was no guarantee that the guild would even help him when the time came.

This left only the last option left that Lake could think about.

Glancing at the group of students that were attending the same class as him, Lake had a headache from just thinking of the method.

The last method involved training the students within the academy to meet the required level to complete the quest.

"It’s mad, it’s impossible and it’s going to be a pain to accomplish."

These were the thoughts going through Lake’s mind right now but even if he said that, he knew that this was going to be how he was going to complete this quest.

From an objective perspective, training the students would be far easier than gathering outside help as the financial cost of it would be significantly less while gaining the trust of his fellow students and making them his allies was far easier thanks to the close age gap.

However, the problem still remained. Lake had to train all of them within a year.

Although extremely difficult, training the students to the level of Martial Warrior was definitely possible if Lake applied his knowledge of mana and martial training together.

The problem came with training the students to become Martial Masters. That’s not a feat Lake was sure even he could achieve within a year yet he must train at least fifty of them.

With Lake’s current skills, it was definitely impossible. However, if he were to upgrade his skills, his chances may increase.

Opening his status screen, Lake glanced over his list of skills.

Looking at the large amount of RP Lake had saved up over the past few months, Lake sighed.

It was finally time to spend his points.

Glancing over all of his current skills, Lake thought it over before choosing the best skill that would help him advance the quest.

[Detected Host has chosen to upgrade Arcane Knowledge skill, does the host wish to proceed?]

Lake confirmed once more in his head as the system began the upgrade.

[1000 RP points have been deducted.]
