Chapter 65: Chapter 65: King, Mana Theory Class

Inside the male dormitory, Lake was seated inside a room as he scrolled through the web on the smart watch, looking up information on the King video.

Lake was currently inside the private dorm room he had earned as one of the rewards for slaying a boss monster during the entrance exam. It had a bedroom, living room, bathroom and even a kitchen. When Lake had first entered the dorm room, he felt that it was better than his own apartment.

As Lake scrolled through the web, he found a few articles covering the King online. Most of the articles were talking about a video that was posted online and after Lake had clicked on a link to the original video, he was soon able to confirm his suspicion.

Around a month ago, a small-time journalist posted a video online titled ’King’ that started to slowly attract attention. It was only recently that the video he posted finally started to get popular as more and more people quickly came in contact with it, pushing it to the top of trending online.

The video showcased the battle between two opposing armies of monsters which would already be considered a big topic but what attracted the most attention was the man that stood among the group of monsters, bravely fighting alongside a horde of enormous spiders.

With merely a raise of his sword, hundreds of spiders would charge forward making him look like a King on a battlefield.

The man gave off a valiant aura around him that seemed to inspire the spiders, leading them to fearlessly charge towards enemies many times stronger than themselves.

As the video went on, there were many highlighted clips from the battle showcasing the man’s many amazing feats, from mowing down countless enemies as he moved across the battlefield to saving and leading hundreds of spiders into an epic battle.

Near the end of the video, there was a scene of what seemed to just be a large bear turning into a terrifying 15 meter tall giant. The bear had seemed to enter a rage state as it killed both spiders and its own allies.

The man in the video made clever use of the bear’s sudden rage to make it kill one of its more powerful allies, an equally titanic python, before finally launching an all out assault on the bear with the assistance of the spiders.

Finally, the video ended with the man releasing a devastating punch into the bear’s jaw, sending it toppling towards the location of the camera.

When Lake had finished watching the video, he felt slightly dumbfounded.

Who would have thought that there was someone watching the battle from afar?

After watching the video Lake took a look at some of the articles talking about it.

"Breaking news! The Spider King has descended down to our mortal world!"

"A Godlike unknown hunter leads hundreds of spiders into a fierce battle against an army of beasts!"

"World’s first monster tamer has made his appearance!"

"Who is the King? Is he a newly awakened hunter? Read this article as we go through an in-depth analysis of the abilities used by the King!"

...

After browsing several articles online, Lake was able to breathe a sigh of relief.

It seems that no one knew the identity of the King and assumed him to be some unknown awakened hunter. When Lake had confirmed this he was relieved that he had decided to hide his face during the fight.

Something Lake also noticed was that a lot of guilds were trying to recruit him, posting several offers publicly online, trying to contact the King.

The reason why they did this was due to the fact that they had no way of contacting Lake. Many people had tried to contact the journalist who posted the video but he had denied knowing anything about the hunter.

As for the journalist himself, after he had posted the video online, he was recruited by a big time hunter news agency directly sky rocketing to the peak of his life.

After Lake had confirmed that his identity wasn’t revealed and finished browsing the news online, he closed the smart band interface.

Since his identity was kept hidden, there was nothing for Lake to worry about.

Although he now had the option to reveal his identity and be directly recruited by a large guild, Lake didn’t wish to do that.

The purpose of him hiding his identity in the first place was so that he would attract less attention to himself. He didn’t have any plans of joining any guilds from the beginning and this sudden boost in popularity online was just an unexpected coincidence.

After getting up, Lake decided to spend the rest of the day familiarizing himself with the compound of the academy so that he could better plan his future schedule.

...

The next day, classes officially started and Lake returned to his classroom as normal, ready to attend the first class of the semester.

His first class was called Mana Theory and it was one of the two mandatory classes that first year students were required to attend along with Practical Combat Training.

When Lake entered the classroom, he was surprised to see that the rest of the students had already created and joined their own small groups.

It seems that yesterday most of the students had spent time making acquaintances with their future classmates.

Taking a seat in the back again, Lake sat down as he waited for the class to start.

"It seems that everyone is still avoiding me."

Lake thought to himself as surveyed the classroom.

Although he didn’t mind the peace and quiet that was brought by everyone’s hatred or fear of him, Lake felt that if this continued he might run into unnecessary trouble in the future.

Lake had done his research yesterday and found out that there would be several group activities planned for the following years. These group activities would play a crucial role in his acquiring of points so he knew that he needed to at least patch up the relationship between him and his classmates to avoid future trouble.

However, those events were still a long time away so Lake planned to take his time and slowly reconcile with the rest of his classmates.

After a while, classes finally began as the teacher walked in.

Mana Theory was one of the mandatory classes that all first year students must go through. Its purpose was to teach new students about the basic properties of mana and its application.

Although to Lake, this class was simply a waste of time with his Arcane Knowledge skill. If Lake had the option, he would have honestly chosen to skip this class as the topic was simply too boring for him.

Lake’s only benefit was that by at least paying attention in the class he would earn a few RP points since it was also considered to be arcane research.

However, just because the class was considered easy for Lake, it didn’t mean it was the same for everyone else.

Although most of the students in the class had come in contact with mana before, something Lake could see by the slight blue color in their fate, it didn’t mean that they were well versed in the theory of it.

Most of them only knew a few simple mana techniques that they would have paid a lot of money to acquire so that they would have a slight advantage when they took their entrance exam.

Not to mention the fact that Mana Theory was one of the hardest subjects for new students to master as the scope of its contents was simply too broad for the average person. Of course, Lake didn’t know any of this and was simply going along through the motions.

...

After class ended, Lake got up as he stretched.

Looking around, he could see the dead expressions of everyone around him with the exception of a few intelligent students.

The class was mostly listening to the teacher’s long and monotonous lecture on the basic principles of mana.

On the smart band, Lake could see that his total points had increased by 5 from attending the class.

Something Lake did find interesting however, was that at the start of the class, the teacher sent out a copy of a basic mana manipulation technique and a basic mana circulation technique to each student’s smart band.

The teacher assigned the task of learning the mana manipulation technique by the end of the month. The reason why he also gave out a circulation technique was out of consideration for those students who didn’t already possess their own circulation technique yet.

The circulation technique worked by storing mana in the body by creating a sort of storage tank inside. Although the technique had its benefits, compared to Lake’s own Mana Circulation Skill which he copied from Harper’s higher ranked technique, it was still lacking in a few departments. Meanwhile, the mana manipulation technique taught the user some basic application and usage of mana and how to perform it.

Although the two techniques were considered useless to Lake who had already mastered the basics of mana with his Mage role, they could still be used as a research topic for him to earn a few more RP points.

After observing the classroom once more, Lake got up and left. His next class was Practical Combat Training which would take place later in the evening. In the meantime he planned on visiting some of the other extra classes that were being held today.
