Chapter 63: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 63: Opening Ceremony
A week later, Lake was seated inside a large auditorium with a few hundred other students.
A few hours ago he had taken the teleport portal inside Sunset City’s Martial Arts Association and was transported to the Academy.
His luggage had already been sent over to the student dormitory so Lake had been waiting inside the auditorium since then.
Royal Dragon Martial Academy.
It was the full name of the Academy that Lake would be attending from now on. It was originally created around twenty years ago with the purpose of training talented young martial artists from all over the continent into hunters to combat the ever increasing and dangerous monsters and rifts.
From what Lake knew, the Academy was founded by the Silverveil Royal Family who were also the current ruling power of the Grey Dragon Continent.
They were a family of powerful martial artists who had been around even before rifts had appeared.
During the Disaster a hundred years ago, they were the leading force against the battle against the endless hordes of beasts earning them great respect among the survivors at the time.
After the effects of the Disaster had been quelled, they took up the mantle of the current leaders of the new age of hunters and rifts, being offered the status and title of Royalty.
If Lake remembered correctly, one of their descendants was currently attending the Academy as an upperclassmen of his.
"Hey, did you see the video floating around the web recently?"
"You mean the video of ’The King’?"
"Yeah, what’s your opinion on it? Most people online are saying that its fake as the contents are simply too unrealistic."
"I think it could be real, after all with the appearance of the fairies, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if someone awakened with the ability to suddenly control spiders to fight against other monsters."
As Lake was lost in thought, he heard something that caught his attention from the conversation of two students a few seats away from him.
Control spiders to fight against other monsters? Why does that sound so familiar?
Lake silently noted down the words, ’The King’. He would have to do some research on this matter later.
As time passed, more and more students had started filling inside until the entire auditorium was filled.
The large auditorium was separated into three sections, each representing the three different years.
Lake was seated with the first years but strangely there was a noticeable silence around him compared to other areas.
Although there were students seated right next to him, they didn’t dare to make a sound after they noticed Lake.
Lake could see sweat running down their necks and after observing their fates, he figured out what was going on.
Put simply, they were scared of him. Lake had almost forgotten due to how busy he had kept himself over the vacation, but it seems that the video of him slaughtering the goblins still hadn’t died down among the new students even after so much time had passed.
However, Lake didn’t care for the rumors at this point as he just wanted to get over with this opening ceremony so he could return to the dorm room and figure out what this ’King’ matter was about.
After a few more minutes had passed, a group of teachers finally walked up onto the stage as the opening ceremony officially started.
The teachers were led by an old man with white hair and walked with a cane in his hand. The old man was quite skinny but Lake didn’t dare to underestimate the man after looking at the golden beast shaped fate above his head.
The old man stood straight as his sharp eyes gazed down at the group of rowdy students. The old man raised the cane off the ground slightly before slamming it down into the ground.
*Boom!*
With the sound of a loud explosion, a wave of mana spread out with the old man as the center, instantly silencing all the students in the hall.
Clearing his throat, the old man began to speak, "Greeting students. I am Principal Ralph and on behalf of all the staff of the Academy, I sincerely welcome all new and returning students back to the Academy. Our Royal Dragon Academy has existed for many years now and has maintained the goal of nurturing the best Martial Artists on the continent. Since you’ve already passed the entrance test, you have already proven your talent by making it this far, now, you must prove your worth! Here, we believe that a student’s true worth is only proven through hard work and effort!"
Lake was only half way listening to the principal’s speech. Right now he was currently going through the different teachers’ fate up on stage.
He had tried going through them all at this point and was surprised to find out that he couldn’t read through the principal’s fate and one other man that stood up on stage.
[Observer of Fate skill level does not meet the requirement to peer into the target’s Fate.]
Lake was slightly surprised by the notification before him. He already had Observer of Fate level two yet it still wasn’t enough to read through the two men’s fate.
Lake’s attention was also caught by the man that stood behind the principal as Lake seemed to have an impression of him. After thinking about it for a while he remembered the identity of the man.
Alec Malcom.
He was one of the examiners for the Martial Arts Course Exam. He had introduced the content of the exams and announced the results to everyone through the giant hologram.
Looking at the fate above his head, Lake was deeply intrigued by its meaning as to him it appeared to be the figure of a bigger man standing behind a smaller person.
As for the rest of the teachers, Lake was surprised to find that all of them were at least Martial Masters with a few of them being Martial Grandmasters.
They all held a variety of different fates which Lake figured related to the subject they taught.
After a few minutes had passed, the principal finished his long winded speech as he moved on to another matter that caught his interest.
"As you are all probably aware, around a week ago humanity made contact with the Fairy Race that was capable of peaceful communication with us. Since then, the fairy race had entered negotiations with the Royals regarding the future cooperation of the two races."
When the student’s heard the principal’s words they started to get rowdy but most of them restrained themselves as they waited for the principal to finish speaking.
"Well, I am glad to tell you that the negotiations have been successfully completed. The Fairy Race is now an official ally of humanity!"
When the principal finished speaking, silence filled the hall for a few seconds before the students burst into excited conversation with each other in soft murmurs.
"Damn! We’re getting some insider information here! News of the negotiation hasn’t been released on the internet yet."
"This is great news for humanity! We could definitely use another ally in this chaotic era filled with monsters and rifts."
"I’m more concerned about the fairies’ appearance. Recently my girlfriend has changed her phone wallpaper from a picture of me and her to one of the male fairies."
"Ugh- Please don’t mention anything about appearance and girlfriends. I still remember when my girlfriend congratulated me for passing the exam before asking if I could arrange a meeting with the rank two candidate from the exam for her. I broke up with her immediately after."
"Pff-hahaha, what the hells up with that? You should have been a single dog like me from the start to avoid situations like this."
As the students were starting to get more and more excited from their conversation, the auditorium was quickly filled with the sound of chattering.
The principal raised his cane once more before slamming it down again, sending out another wave of mana that silenced the crowd once again.
"Now, I know that you are all excited about the prospect of a new ally, that’s why the Royals and the fairies have come to an agreement in order to strengthen the bond between the two races while excitement is still high regarding each other. That’s why, starting from next week, there will be three transfer students from the Fairy race that will be attending the Academy!"
This time absolute silence filled the auditorium for a long time before excited cheers rang throughout the entire room.
"Woahhh!!!!"
"Big news! Big news! I have to spread this shit online when I get back. Those idiots who didn’t pass the exam and the upperclassmen who graduated recently are going to be so fucking jealous."
"Damn, now that I have the opportunity, I have to get a picture with a female fairy before sharing it with my girlfriend. Let her understand my pain!"
As the entire hall was filled with excitement once more, the principal made a few more announcements before organizing for the students to head to their designated homeroom class.
Lake walked out of the large auditorium among the excited crowd of students. It seems that the news of the fairy had made them forget their fear of him.
Lake didn’t mind this as he continued walking forward. He was also interested in the exchange students but he was more calm about it than the other students.
Looking at the band around his wrist, Lake touched it before a holographic menu appeared before him.
This band was a unique identification and communication device that the academy had been distributed to each student. Looking at his profile in the corner of the screen, Lake could see the amount of points he had and a rank displayed next to his name.
[First Year - Student Rank - 1]
[Points - 850]
The points were a currency unique to the Academy. When the principal was doing his original speech he explained a bit about the uses of them. He currently had 850 points that he had gained during the entrance exam.
For now however, Lake navigated the holographic screen before clicking on a map icon.
When he pressed it, a large map of the Academy grounds showed up, stunning Lake with the sheer size of it. There were many buildings and facilities there at the Academy that students could access but for now Lake looked for his homeroom classroom.
