Chapter 173: Three-Headed Serpent Hunt (4)
Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Three-Headed Serpent Hunt (4)
The central head of the Serpent had just finished recoiling from the previous attack. The fog wall in front of it had been completely cleared by the blast, and the other two heads were already working on repairing the fog.
Madness and rage swirled in the central head’s eyes as it searched for its prey. It saw the hunters, led by Kate, retreating and fully understood their intent.
Despite its unusual bloodlust, it retained the intelligence of a Peak Rank Three creature and could roughly analyze the humans’ behavior. However, when the central head turned to look for the strongest of them, whom it had previously attacked, it realized they had already disappeared.
Knowing the strength of the human it was fighting was weaker than itself, it assumed they must have fled in fear, causing the massive head to smile.
The fact that these humans thought they could escape its pursuit was laughable.
While the Serpent reveled in its perceived victory, its eyes suddenly narrowed, sensing something rapidly approaching.
Scanning the area, it couldn’t see anything initially but soon noticed a powerful mana source entering its field and approaching swiftly.
BOOM!
Before it could react, a loud explosion echoed as ’something’ sped past it, leaving splashes on the bay’s surface. Though almost invisible, the Serpent could still sense its movements.
"GROARRR!"
The other two heads stopped emitting mist and turned to scream in different directions, sending shockwaves through the air as it released its Mana Field.
All of the Serpent’s heads turned towards the collision with its Mana Field, where a fast-approaching figure was visible.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, out of thin air, Romero appeared before the Serpent’s central head, his fist covered in a golden aura as he flew straight at it!
BOOM!
Romero’s fist crashed into the cranium of the central head, sending shockwaves through the air. The central head crashed down into the water as the other two heads screamed in pain. Their bloodthirsty eyes locked onto Romero as the left head flew over, mouth wide open, prepared to swallow him whole.
However, just as the left head was about to bite down, as if he was stepping on an invisible platform, Romero quickly spun around and launched an upward kick, sending the illusionary figure of a golden dragon crashing into the left head’s jaw!
The left head’s body twisted at an unnatural angle, as the creaking sound of its neck snapping echoed out. Before its neck fully snapped, the left head resisted the twisting force, snapping its neck back into place, followed by a loud roar at Romero, its enraged eyes threatening to swallow him.
At that moment, the right head had already lined itself up behind Romero, firing a wind bullet his way with a loud screech.
Romero had already used up the energy he had gathered in his hands and feet prior to engaging and had no way of counterattacking. With no chance of dodging the wind bullet at this close distance, it looked like Romero was going to be hit when his figure suddenly vanished into thin air, followed by a violent gust of wind.
Following the direction of the wind, the two heads managed to briefly spot the figure of a giant green wolf landing on the water’s surface before vanishing once again, turning into an invisible blur.
Realizing that its opponent was moving too fast for it to keep track of, the two heads roared again, expanding its Mana Field once more, this time exerting more pressure, aiming to suppress the opponent’s speed.
Its plan seemed to have worked, as not even a second after coming into contact, it spotted the figure of the Alpha Wolf pausing momentarily, unable to resist the pressure exerted by the Serpent.
However, not even a moment later, the Serpent felt the force of a slightly weaker Mana Field expand from the Alpha Wolf’s back, negating some of the pressure it faced and allowing the Alpha Wolf to start running again. However, since the pressure hadn’t completely disappeared, the Alpha Wolf had slowed down significantly to the point that the Serpent could now track its movement with its eyes.
While the Serpent was busy observing the Alpha Wolf, it hadn’t managed to notice the subtle mana signature that had snuck up next to it.
Squelch!
"GRRAAA!"
The pained roar of the right head of the serpent sounded out as the long shaft of Leno’s spear sank into its eye!
Leno, who held onto the spear, completely released his energy that was deliberately suppressed so that he could sneak up on the Serpent in the next instant, creating a small explosion in the eye of the Serpent, causing half of its head to blow up!
As chunks of brain matter and blood flew everywhere, Leno jumped back with a flip in midair. Holding his spear, he started to concentrate mana on its tip as he heard a command in his head.
In the next instant, the water beneath him started to rise as the giant central head burst out of the water, its mouth wide open, ready to swallow Leno completely!
It had been lurking below the water’s surface, awaiting its moment to strike. When it saw Leno about to fall into the water, it knew it was its time to strike.
SNAP!
In one swift motion, the Serpent’s massive jaws snapped down as Leno’s figure disappeared within its mouth.
However, instead of feeling satisfied that it had managed to kill its opponent, the Serpent instead felt a sharp pain in its jaw followed by a feeling of emptiness, leaving it temporarily confused.
It was sure it had swallowed its opponent after catching him off guard. There was absolutely no way for Leno to counterattack in that short a time, but when it checked the condition of its jaw through the shared vision of the left head, it was shocked to find a massive hole had been created in the bottom of its jaw!
The central head tried to scream in pain, but that only increased the pain it felt. Instead, its eyes burned with hatred as it finally spotted Leno’s figure landing atop the Alpha Wolf that had passed under him while he was distracted.
The central head wanted nothing more than to kill the annoying wolf at this point, but all of its attacks had been disabled because of the massive hole in its mouth.
Only the left head was left with any means of attack and was busy firing wind bullets at the speeding wolf. However, every time it shot a bullet, the Alpha Wolf had already moved ahead of time as if it had predicted its attack, making it impossible to hit.
The Serpent roared in frustration as it began to thrash about, sending large waves splashing through the water’s surface, disrupting the Alpha Wolf’s path.
Once the Alpha Wolf had slowed down significantly during the chaos in order to navigate the turbulent waters, the left head shot out another wind bullet as the Serpent’s massive tail rose out of the water, sweeping upwards.
The Alpha Wolf managed to dodge the wind bullet, but the Serpent’s tail managed to hit it, sending it flying into the sky.
The left head didn’t waste this opportunity and fired several wind bullets at the airborne wolf. It had learned from the tragic states of its other two heads and didn’t dare to try and swallow the wolf whole.
Three wind bullets were fired off in quick succession. The Alpha Wolf managed to twist its body at a weird angle, dodging the first bullet, before seemingly landing on thin air and jumping to the side to dodge the second one.
The third shot, however, seemed to trail onto its position and looked like it was going to hit the Alpha Wolf, but it suddenly exploded in midair, seemingly crashing into an invisible wall.
The explosion from the wind bullet sent aftershocks through the air, causing the Alpha Wolf to fly backward and land in the water with a small splash.
The Serpent felt gleeful seeing the Alpha Wolf unable to run from it anymore, turning into a helpless prey in the water. However, the central head was quick to notice an anomaly as the two humans that had attacked it were nowhere to be seen.
Feeling that something was wrong, the Serpent spread out its Mana Field, trying to find the two missing humans, but it was too late.
A sharp pain spread throughout the left head’s body as a spear was impaled into the back of its neck. As a wave of mana was sent through the spear into the back of its head, a muffled explosion boomed from within the Serpent’s skull, its eyes bulging out of their sockets before dilating.
The central head turned to see the figure of Leno standing atop the falling left head. Before it could retaliate, however, it sensed another powerful mana signature from above its head.
Remembering the attack it suffered earlier from Romero, it was prepared this time and quickly ducked its head underwater. Turning around, it looked above the water’s surface, its eyes locking onto the source of the mana signature.
However, when its eyes saw the source of the signature, it was left confused as there was nothing there. No person, no material or item, just empty air.
As the central head tried to figure out what was going on, it suddenly felt another powerful source of mana emanate from right beneath its jaw. However, unlike before, the Serpent sensed this force too late as it felt something enter its mouth through the gap in its throat.
BOOM!
A loud explosion sounded from within the water as a massive pillar of water rose, droplets of rain falling down.
At the original source of the mana that the Serpent detected, the figure of Lake slowly revealed itself as he canceled his invisibility spell.
His cold eyes looked down as he saw the lifeless central head of the serpent float up out of the water. A hole had been blown in the top of its skull, and the bloody figure of Romero emerged from within it.
As Lake saw Romero’s figure, he dissipated the strand of Romero’s mana he controlled into the air.
Just moments ago, he had tricked the Serpent into thinking that he was Romero through the mana signature, causing it to let down its guard when it went underwater.
Taking a look at everyone’s condition, Lake saw that Leno was sitting atop the left head that floated on the water’s surface. Romero was similarly standing up as he tried to catch his breath atop the central head.
The Alpha Wolf had at some point climbed onto the tail of the Serpent, which had also floated up, allowing Lake to get a full view of just how enormous this creature really was. The three heads were about forty meters in length from the base of the neck, with the rest of its tail extending more than sixty meters behind it!
Lake sighed at the sight as he prepared to fly down, ready to collect and destroy the corrupted fate of the Serpent. However, when his eyes saw that the strand of fate that should have disconnected at this point was still connected to the body of the Serpent and emitting a dark, repulsive energy, he immediately realized that something was wrong!
[MOVE!]
He sent out an order immediately, but the body of the Serpent that had been completely still only moments before started to squirm and wiggle as the three heads with Romero and Leno on them rose out of the water.
The Alpha Wolf was the first to react, sprinting onto the water’s surface as it retrieved both Leno and Romero from their vulnerable spots. Lake also landed on the Alpha Wolf’s back as they retreated to the shore to watch the spectacle before them.
First was the broken right head, whose flesh and brain matter were exposed through its open skull. The head rose up out of the water, its flesh squirming and bubbling as new flesh and bone grew to cover the brain that was slowly rebuilding itself.
The left head also rose out of the water, broken pieces of flesh and meat spilling from its mouth as its eyes, which had left their sockets, were pulled back in.
"This..." Romero and Leno were left stunned by the sight, and so were the hunters and students who hadn’t retreated that far yet.
Lake’s expression, however, was calm as he quietly observed the ominous energy emitting from the corrupted fate and flowing along the black veins across the Serpent’s body.
As the last head rose out of the water, the hole in the bottom of its jaw and the back of its skull slowly regenerating, its dilated eyes slowly came back to life as the three heads looked up at the sky in unison.
"GWROARR!!"
