Chapter 150: Cheat

Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Cheat

"...."

"What? Don’t look at me like that."

"...."

"I said I’ll only give you the antidote if you manage to get the last hit. I never said the last hit would be fought between only you and me."

Lake pretended not to see the Alpha Wolf’s pitiful gaze.

He didn’t feel bad in the slightest bit, having helped Kate get the killing blow.

Sylph was standing next to Lake, blushing deeply with her head lowered. When the Alpha Wolf’s gaze turned to her, she subconsciously trembled.

"A-Ah, I-I’m, so, so sorry, Wolfy! I didn’t know you had that kind of bet going on between the two of you..."

Sylph had also interfered and assisted Kate in killing the Giant Horned Bison, so she felt bad when she found out about the bet going on between Lake and the Alpha Wolf.

"Awuu..."

With a sad whimper, the Alpha Wolf turned its back to everyone and stared off at the giant corpse of the horned bison.

At that point, a female figure covered in blood walked in front of the group.

"Haha, welcome back Kat-"

Whoosh!

Lake smiled as he dodged the punch flying towards his face.

He knew that Kate was definitely angry at him and was prepared to continue dodging until she was tired out, but didn’t expect her to collapse to the ground almost immediately after throwing the first punch.

Plop!

Seeing Kate faceplant into the ground, he refrained himself from saying anything that might agitate her further and carefully flipped her over.

stare...

Kate’s amber eyes were unwavering as they looked at him in silent rage.

Lake’s smile stiffened when he saw the death stare Kate was giving him. "You’re not trying to kill me with your gaze, are you..?"

Kate didn’t say anything in return but only continued to stare at him with eyes that looked like she wanted to rip him apart.

"Haha, I guess you tired yourself out so much that you can’t even speak anymore. Good job out there, you did great, Guildmaster~"

This time Kate didn’t continue to stare at him but rolled her eyes. Turning towards Sylph, she looked over with pitiful eyes.

"Ah, right! Sorry! Should’ve done this earlier." Sylph, seemingly understanding Kate’s intentions, rushed over as she began to heal her.

As Sylph was treating Kate, Bramble and Iris flew over together, landing next to them.

"Oh, you guys are back to-"

Whoosh!

"...Deja vu."

Dodging yet another punch, Lake smiled at the violent fairy in front of him. Unfortunately, unlike the exhausted Kate, Iris seemed to still be full of energy.

Bam!

Lake caught her punch, smiling through the stinging sensation in his palm.

"Now, can we all just calm down-" Lake spoke as he preemptively leaned backward, barely dodging the upwards kick aimed at his chin.

"That’s right! Smack his head! Maybe then we could knock some sense into it!"

Kate, who had already recovered enough to talk in that short time, shouted out almost immediately after seeing Iris going at him.

"...Sigh... You asked for this..." As Lake spoke, his smile vanished, replaced by a scarily calm expression.

Sylph wanted to say something to mediate the situation, but before she could even speak, Iris’ mouth fired out several colorful words.

"Bastard! Asshole! Dogshit Liar! Do you think you have the right to fight back?!"

"Whether or not I have the right to defend myself from a wild animal or violent fairy, I think you know the answer." As Lake spoke, he tightened his grip on Iris’ hand.

Gathering strength in his shoulder and arm, he lifted Iris off the ground in one quick movement as he threw her far into the sky behind him!

"Idiot! Do you think you can get rid of a fairy by throwing them in the sky!" Iris, who was flung away, shouted as she turned around mid-air, her translucent wings spread out behind her.

"No, not really, but this can." As Lake spoke, he snapped his fingers without looking at Iris.

Burst!

"W-Wait?! What is this?!"

Iris was caught off guard as vines suddenly grew out from her fist, wrapping up her body, and of course, restricting her wings.

"Kyaa-"

Iris released a momentary scream as she started to fall to the ground but quickly shut her mouth. She would rather die than make such an embarrassing sound.

Whoosh!

However, before she could land on the ground, someone had dashed over in an instant and caught her in the air.

"I must say, Sister, you really need to learn to control your anger issues."

"Shut it, Bramble! Help me get out of these vines so I could go kick his ass!"

Bramble’s eyes twitched as he looked at his older sister fiercely struggling to get out of the restraints in his arms.

"Haah... I’m sorry, Sir Lake, my Sister needs some time to cool off. I hope that you could forgive her for her earlier rudeness."

Lake shook his head seeing Bramble apologizing for Iris. "It’s fine, just don’t let it happen again."

"Y-You traitor! How could you beg for forgiveness from him?! Are you not on your own sister’s side?!"

"Hm? Of course, I’m on my sister’s side. That’s why I’m stopping her from doing anything stupid that might tarnish our reputation."

"Tsk!"

Bramble wore a wry smile as he pretended not to hear his own sister click her tongue at him.

"You kids certainly are lively, despite causing such a big mess."

Suddenly, a voice sounded out, catching everyone’s attention.

Lake turned to greet the owner of the voice.

"Nice to see you too, Teach." Lake said as the corner of his lips curled up. "I wonder what brings you here?"

Hearing Lake’s question, Alec exhaled a deep breath, a smoky scent lingering in the air.

"...Have you been smoking on the job?" Lake asked, a false look of disgust on his face.

"Shut it."

As Alec spoke, he took a glance at the Alpha Wolf who was sitting down quietly.

Seeing how it wasn’t paying him any mind despite being so close, Alec was finally able to confirm his suspicion.

"You really did tame it, didn’t you..."

Lake didn’t reply but he didn’t have to, as Alec had already figured out a few details on his own.

"Haah... Why are my students such f-... pain."

"Wow... Restricting yourself from cursing? Such a role model Teacher."

Ignoring Lake’s half-hearted provocation, Alec turned his eyes to the body of the Giant Horned Bison.

’How the hell am I going to explain this one...’

Alec’s eyes turned dim as he thought about dealing with the aftermath of the situation.

Lake was happily smiling, seeing his teacher’s depressed expression when his ears suddenly twitched.

Alec also seemed to have noticed something as his expression grew darker.

As the sounds grew closer, Lake smiled as he found a nice quiet spot to sit down, ready to observe the coming show.

’Sorry, Teach, but I was taught to hold grudges...’

Remembering how Alec and the Academy had screwed him over yesterday by forcing Sylph into his team, Lake was fully prepared to watch the show he had purposely created.

It was no coincidence that the hunters were able to spot the wolf pack rushing towards the plains.

Lake was proficient in assassination, and a stealthier approach would have benefited him more, but for the sake of creating a scene that would attract a large enough crowd, he purposely chose to fight head-on. The results were the same either way, so it didn’t matter to him.

What was important was that the Academy had a big mess left to clean up...

Vroom!

The loud sounds of an engine could be heard in the distance as a line of Field Vehicles appeared on the horizon. They were quickly closing the distance, and Lake could see the figures of a few hunters standing on top of them.

Seeing the hunters called here on emergency notice approaching, along with the corpse of the Giant Horned Bison behind him, Alec took a deep breath. As he exhaled, he prepared himself to talk his way out of this situation.

He was confident that he could get out of this situation, somehow, but he wasn’t so sure he could do so without compensating the hunters for the time they wasted.

These hunters, originally seeking a living in the Stronghold, responded to a sudden call despite disrupting their schedules. The potential benefits of harvesting a large horde of low-risk, high-ranking monsters motivated their decision.

Additionally, the presence of the students in potential danger was also a factor. While saving the kids was a good thing, it also presented an opportunity to connect with the prestigious Academy responsible for shaping the hunters of tomorrow.

If these hunters who came here looking for benefits were to find out that not only were the monsters killed, but the students were the ones to do it, the sense of wasted time was enough to warrant anger.

As the jeeps stopped in front of the group and a few confused-looking hunters hopped out, Alec felt a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead.

....

Lake hummed a simple tune as he sat on his bed.

Remembering the annoyed look of Alec as he dealt with the increasingly angry pack of hunters was enough to make his day.

This time, the stunt he pulled should’ve cost the Academy a large sum of money and resources. Although in reality that large sum of money probably wasn’t even a fraction of the Academy’s total asset, it still felt good to have his revenge, even if he didn’t know exactly how it was supposed to feel...

"Haah." Sighing, he opened his status screen to check the changes.

Looking at his stats and comparing it to his body, Lake could sense his growth over the past few days.

His Mana Capacity was infinitely growing as time went on under the cultivation of the Mana Heart, while his mana was becoming more refined and pure.

At the rate he was progressing, Lake estimated that his Mana Strength would cap out at ten, which would be the purest state it could reach. For it to grow further than that, Lake would have to reach the higher martial realms.

Lake didn’t pull out his status screen to check his stats, however. Turning his eyes downwards, he set his sights on the large pile of RP he had accumulated.

Just by fighting the Giant Horned Bison, he had gained a little over three thousand points in total.

With that many points, with the exclusion of the Master of Fate role, he could upgrade any of his skills from the other roles. But instead of doing that, Lake reached into his system storage, pulling out and ever shifting multidimensional Rubik’s cube.

This was the Rubik’s cube Lake had obtained in the rift he had entered in Star City. In it, contains the otherworld super artificial intelligence from a highly advanced civilization, Bloom.

To gain access to Bloom he had to solve the Rubik’s cube puzzle and unlocked the data held within, but even after trying for over five months now, he hadn’t even gotten close and had thrown it at the back of his mind.

But the situation was different now. Prestige was out there messing with fate, the system’s ominous threat still remained and his strength was still far too weak to be dealing with anything of this.

Right now, he needed power, he needed influence, he needed an army, one that Bloom could provide at a moment’s notice.

However, if he couldn’t unlock the Rubik’s cube, he wouldn’t be able to achieve anything and that’s when Lake realized something.

If he couldn’t solve the Rubik cube legitimately, he could cheat.
