Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Can You Use Magic?

Knock! Knock!

Upon hearing the knock on his door, Lake placed the Rubik’s cube back into his system storage.

Getting up from the bed, he walked over to the door before opening it.

Looking at the tired face on the other side, he smiled politely and greeted with a nod.

"Yo, Teach. How was the aftermath?"

"Don’t even ask," Alec spoke with a long sigh before walking past Lake and into the room.

Lake closed the door behind him before following Alec inside.

Alec sat down on one of the beds while Lake took a seat across from him on the other.

"So, what’s the verdict?" Lake asked with a casual smile.

Alec sighed once again as he slouched down on the bed. "The verdict is that you’re a pain in the ass."

"Ah, you finally cursed."

"After all you put me through, I don’t mind cursing you out in front of your face."

Lake placed a hand on his chin, lost in thought. "Well, if we’re using that logic, then I should also be able to curse in front of your face after all you put me through, no?"

"Aha! That’s where you’re wrong. I didn’t put you through anything. It was the Academy’s and the higher-ups’ decision to put you through that."

"Really, but aren’t you a teacher of the Academy and therefore guilty by association?"

Alec’s face grew still as he decided to ignore Lake’s words. "Either way, it’s not like you have anything to be upset about. If it was any other student, they would’ve jumped at the opportunity."

"Well, it’s not like it is of our concern anymore. I did my best to cover for the Academy, so now it’s the responsibility of the higher-ups to figure out the rest. Let’s put all this behind us, alright, Lake?"

"Hmm, fine." Lake nodded as he sat with a satisfied smug on his face.

"Oh, and also, next time you plot something against the Academy, could you leave me out of it?"

Lake put on a surprised expression at Alec’s accusation. "What makes you think that I’ll plot something again?"

"The fact that the first day hasn’t passed yet, and you already have over a thousand points," Alec said with a deadpan expression. "Anyway, let’s get back to the main matters."

Lake shrugged at Alec’s words but paid attention to what he was about to say next.

"After some discussion among the examiners, we decided to allow the use of the wolves to accumulate points, as it was your own effort and skills that allowed you to tame the wolves, according to the reports of the then-assigned guardian."

"After counting up the number of Bison corpses, the total points your team accumulated is 940 points. After much deliberation, we decided to reward you with an extra thousand points for the feat of killing the Rank Two Bison."

Lake raised his eyes in surprise hearing the points he got from killing the Giant Horned Bison.

Alec seemed to notice his surprise and calmly explained, "The feat of killing a Rank Two creature is no joke, even if you had the assistance of the Alpha Wolf. I also heard that you played a big role in hunting down another Rank Two creature when you worked with the third years."

"You can just consider this as the Academy taking the chance to reward you for your continuous effort and outstanding achievements."

Lake secretly cursed the Academy in his mind when he heard Alec’s words.

’Rewarding me by using a virtual currency that can only be used within the Academy. Just what I’d expect from these demon-like bastards.’

"Hah, fine. What about Sylph and the others?" Knowing that he couldn’t gain anything else out of this, Lake decided to move on to the next topic.

"That’s also the final matter I have to talk about. Due to the sudden nature of this situation, the Academy is still taking its time to analyze the data gathered this time."

"We’ve already received Mr. Romero’s report, but we would also like to hear your opinion on the cooperation between the two races."

Lake didn’t say anything immediately but took some time to think.

"Hmm, I guess the cooperation was just fine? Our combat methods weren’t that different, and one of them even possessed a few unique abilities that came in handy during the hunt. I didn’t have much of a chance to properly work with them directly, so it might be better to ask Kate. She had more experience working with them."

"Is that so? I’ll keep your opinion in mind and ask Ms. Blackheart later."

"...."

Silence momentarily descended between the two of them.

Lake could see that Alec was looking at him with a deeply profound gaze. He seemed to want to ask something but for some reason was holding back.

"...Lake, you’re not required to answer the following question if you don’t want to, but are you able to use magic?"

Lake’s eyes shot up at Alec’s question but quickly calmed back down.

"What makes you think that, Teach?" He asked calmly.

"In less than a month, you have showcased several unique abilities from healing to projectiles, barriers, and terrain manipulation. While the Academy previously thought of all of this as nothing more than an awakened ability, the number and different types of abilities you’ve showcased over the past few weeks have grown too much for us to just consider this a case of multiple awakenings..."

"The Academy doesn’t wish to pry into a student’s secret, so if you don’t want to tell us, we completely understand. But beside from it being something as absurd as magic, we really have no clue as to why you possess so many abilities."

Lake’s face was calm as he listened to Alec’s words.

To tell or not to tell was the question.

While it was true that Lake possessed magic and was fine with sharing it with the rest, he didn’t want to share it immediately as he felt that it would only cause more trouble than it would benefit him.

If he revealed everything now, he would have to waste a lot of time answering their questions and have to go through several experiments and tests to figure out the intricacies of everything, which could take anywhere from weeks to months.

Lake didn’t have the ability to waste time on something like that now as he still had to prepare for the coming disaster in a year.

The Academy was willing to respect his privacy and leave him to find his own path, which he was grateful for, but he couldn’t afford to lose that much time.

"...I’m still trying to figure it out myself, so forgive me for not being able to answer your questions immediately."

After a little deliberation, this was the answer Lake came up with.

He wasn’t denying that he could use magic nor was he admitting it. By answering this way, he could at least buy some time, and when everything has been dealt with, he doesn’t mind transferring some of his knowledge to further advance mankind.

"It’s fine if you’re unable to answer. Once you’ve figured everything out yourself, you can always come find me or the Principal. The Academy is always willing to help students unlock their potential and explore their talents, so take your time."

"Thank you for your understanding." Lake bowed slightly to Alec, who got up from the bed.

"Alright, that’s enough. I’ll be heading back to work as I still have to help clean up your mess some more."

"Oh, and speaking of that, what do you plan to do with the corpses of the Giant Horned Bison? If you’re interested, the Academy can help find your team a buyer or purchase it directly from you."

"No, it’s fine. I have other plans on how to deal with it."

"If that’s what you wish, I’ll be on my way then."

Watching Alec leave the room, Lake thought for a moment before deciding to hold off on analyzing the cube.

Even if he unlocks Bloom now, he still has no place to store it nor a definite way of controlling it. Growing up, Lake had seen a few movies of rogue AI, so he was especially careful to make sure everything was in preparation before letting Bloom out.

After all, Bloom only agreed to work with him as that was the most logical option at the time. If for some reason Bloom got out and found a better option through his analysis, Lake would have no one to blame but himself.

The method he had in mind for controlling Bloom right now was to use the System Analyze function again on Bloom itself and get the information on its code.

As long as he could get his hand on that, he could both guarantee Bloom’s loyalty and come up with a potential failsafe in the process.

In order to achieve this process, Lake would like to have at least ten thousand RP in reserve. This would normally be an extremely difficult task to accomplish if Lake was still stuck in the Academy, but out here, there was an entire Field waiting for him to harvest.

With a smile, Lake left his room before heading downstairs to meet up with the rest of his team.
