Chapter 148: Injured!

Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Injured!

"Groar!"

Squelch.

"Hahahah! Come at me!"

Lake’s maddening laughter sounded out amidst the cacophony of broken skulls and blood.

"Groarr!"

But even in this terrifying atmosphere, the Bison continued to charge forward fearlessly, trying to break through Lake’s one man blockade.

Bang!

A Bison rammed into Lake as he grabbed onto its massive horns. His feet dug into the tough dirt as he was pushed back more than five meters.

Breathing in, Lake clenched his jaw as his muscles bulged with the veins popping out on them.

"Hah!"

To its shock, the large Bison that was easily more than two thousand kilograms, was picked up off its feet and flung to the side like a discarded toy.

Crash!

The Bison landed atop another charging Bison causing it to trip and slide all the way to Lake’s feet, which was already raised and awaiting its arrival.

Crunch.

Stretching out his hand, he grabbed the pair of fate that had disconnected from the two Bison crushed heads.

[+100 RP Points.]

[RP Points = 5342.333]

Glancing at his RP points that had increased by more than 2000 since the start of this battle, Lake’s grin grew wider by the second.

There were originally around two hundred Bison, and Lake had killed around fifty of them by himself.

Kate and the others had dealt with thirty or so while the wolves were responsible for eighty or so kills at the start of the battle. Looking at the few remaining Bison, Lake knew that this battle was quickly coming to a close.

Rumble...

At that moment, Lake felt a large tremor vibrate through the earth.

Turning to look at the Giant Horned Bison, he saw that it had managed to gain a footing after struggling for so long and was starting to break through the earth spike barrier.

"Awooo!!"

Whoosh!

Before the Giant Horned Bison could break free however, a lone howl resounded in the battlefield accompanied with the arrival of a large gust of wind.

BOOM!

A sonic boom blasted through the air as the Giant Horned Bison, who was almost out of its confines, was knocked back down to the ground, sinking deeper into the earth.

In the air above the Giant Bison’s head, the Alpha Wolf retracted its paw that it used to slap the Giant Bison back into the ground.

"Ruff!"

"Good boy."

A soft voice spoke as the graceful figure of a black haired woman dashed past the Alpha Wolf.

Raising her sword, a brilliant starlight lit up the sky as she brought it down onto the creature.

Swoosh!

Burst!

"Groarrr!"

The pained cry of the Giant Horned Bison filled the air as a gaping slash mark appeared across its neck. The creature kicked and struggled in pain crazily causing the ground to shake violently and the earth spikes that were already damaged to collapse onto its body.

"Groarr!!"

Its cries grew even more desperate as time went by. For the first time in its life, the Giant Horned Bison had received a wound that broke past its thick skin, causing it to panic with both pain and fear.

The black haired swordswoman fell to the ground after launching her attack, jumping backwards to distance herself from the Giant Bison that was throwing a tantrum.

She was breathing heavily but didn’t lower her sword as she looked forward.

"Nice work."

Lake’s causal voice sounded out as he appeared beside her.

"Haah... We, are going, to have... a long talk, about lying, and trust, after this."

Kate spoke through labored breaths as she glared at Lake.

"Relax, we can talk later. You’ve exhausted most of your Astral Mana with that attack, so don’t push yourself to talk about meaningless matters."

Hearing Lake call her talk "meaningless" caused Kate to roll her eyes as she tried to catch her breath.

"Hu... So what now? You called me over to attack the creature while it was still trapped, but even after I went all out, it still has plenty of energy left behind."

"It’s fine. The wound you left on its neck is more than enough."

As Lake spoke, he casually glanced around him, noticing that the wolves had already created a second encirclement around the remaining Bison.

Looking at the nearby Alpha Wolf, he released a short whistle to catch its attention as the two made eye contact.

Shiver...

The Alpha Wolf trembled subconsciously upon gazing into his cold eyes, but Lake didn’t care.

Pointing at the remaining Bison, he sent simple orders to be sent down to the rest of the wolves.

Capture. Alive.

With those two words, the Alpha Wolf shivered again but quickly nodded in understanding.

Roaring at the sky, the remaining wolves that were about to attack stopped upon hearing their leader’s command.

"Kate, go help the rest of the wolves contain the remaining Bison. They won’t be able to contain them completely, so make sure no Bison escapes."

"Weren’t you the one who said I exhausted my mana?"

"Is that so? Then, aren’t I also the one who taught you how to fight without mana?"

Kate’s thoughts paused as she remembered the three-day training session held by Lake. She was forced to assist him and had to fight without using mana against other students for hours without end.

The students who were initially weak to her onslaught grew smarter and quicker as time went by and they kept finding new ways to avoid or even exhaust her physical stamina, putting her in danger of losing on several occasions.

Of course, every time something like that happened, Lake would swoop in and show each student the true meaning of "Hunter and Prey".

It felt a bit weird thinking about it now, and she couldn’t shake off the feeling that Lake knew the exam details beforehand. But even she had a hard time believing that Lake could possibly know that, considering just how strict the Academy was with its internal affairs.

"...Bastard."

In the end, all she could do was curse him out before running towards the smaller bison herd.

Lake, observing her retreat to regroup with the wolves, smiled lightly before turning back to face the Alpha Wolf.

Whistling, he sent out another signal, this time pointing at the Giant Horned Bison.

You. Me. Hunt.

This time the Alpha Wolf didn’t shiver or cower in fear of Lake. Instead, it turned to look at the Giant Bison that was throwing a temper tantrum like a child.

Although Lake couldn’t tell what expression the Alpha Wolf was making, he could sense the overflowing rage and hatred coming off it through his Kinship skill.

"You want revenge for earlier? Then let’s make this more interesting." Lake spoke with a casual attitude. His Kinship skill could only translate basic emotion and intent between the two, so he wasn’t even sure that the Alpha Wolf could understand what he was saying, but he still spoke out.

"If you manage to get the finishing blow, I’ll give you the antidote to the poison."

As Lake spoke, he couldn’t help but grin slightly.

The Alpha Wolf didn’t directly respond to Lake’s words but instead lowered its body to the ground, looking like a predator ready to pounce at its prey as it released several low growls.

Seeing this, Lake didn’t say anything but directly hopped on the Alpha Wolf’s back.

"Let’s go!"

"Awooo!"

Boom!

With a loud sonic boom, the Alpha Wolf charged forward, turning into a green streak of light!
