Chapter 147: Trapped
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Trapped
The ground vibrated as the behemoth came rushing at him.
"Hu..."
Taking a deep breath, Lake slowly closed his eyes. He could feel every step of the creature approaching him, warning him of its inevitable arrival.
Even he didn’t have the confidence to face off against a creature as massive as the Giant Horned Bison. It was only considered a lower Rank Two creature, but its sheer size alone made it comparable to that of a peak Rank Two creature.
Lake would completely understand if Kate came to him after this battle to complain. After all, he had explicitly explained to them that the Bison was something they could handle, but looking at the current situation, they probably thought that he had tricked them.
"Hmph."
Lake made a light hum as he smiled. In one swift motion, he opened his eyes wide as the Giant Horned Bison was nearly upon him.
Crouching down, he touched the ground before muttering something underneath his breath.
"Shatter."
Crack!
In an instant, several soft crackling sounds resonated from deep within the ground, but no traces were visible on the surface.
Rumble!
Looking ahead, Lake could see that the Giant Horned Bison was only moments away from coming in contact with him.
Waiting no longer, he concentrated his mana in his feet before gathering strength in his legs.
"Wind Blast!"
Whoosh!
In one swift motion, Lake ascended into the sky, barely dodging the incoming collision with the Giant Horned Bison!
"Graorr!"
The Giant Horned Bison released a roar as it raised its head to take a bite out of Lake, who was only a few meters away from its head.
Crack!
However, before the Giant Horned Bison could even fully extend its neck, its feet sank into the ground where Lake was standing mere moments ago, bringing its charge to a resounding halt.
Swoosh!
"Groar?!
"BANG!
Rumble!
The Giant Horned Bison, caught off guard, fell to the ground with a loud bang as the ground trembled heavily from the impact!
Lake had just finished muttering something as his smile turned into a wide grin as he watched the creature struggle to get back on its feet.
"Why don’t you stay down?"
"Earth Spikes!"
Immediately after Lake finished casting the spell, several large earthen pillars shot out from either side of the Giant Horned Bison, creating a makeshift cage that restricted its movements further.
Normally, it would have been able to break out of such measly bindings with its strength, but due to the poor footing and the crumbling ground beneath its feet, it couldn’t gather any of its usual strength without sinking further into the ground.
"Grrr...ROARR!"
With an earth-shaking cry, the Giant Horned Bison continued to struggle in vain.
The other bison scattered across the field seemed to hear the call of their leader as they quickly got up, rushing towards the earthen spikes in hopes of freeing their leader.
Still free-falling, Lake looked at the scene below him. He could easily cast a few spells to deal with the incoming bison herd, but he had already used up more than half his mana reserves dealing with the Giant Horned Bison.
"Since you’re all coming to me, I guess that just makes my job easier..."
Looking at the herd of bison rushing towards the center, Lake didn’t feel worried but instead smiled.
The wind around him guided his movements as he dived towards a group of incoming bison.
Swoosh!
CRUNCH!!
With a sickening crunch, the head of a bison exploded as Lake’s falling feet smashed it against the ground.
With the King’s Aura spreading from his body, his presence transformed into a terrifying demon in the eyes of the bison as a thick murderous aura spread throughout the air.
"HAHAHA! Come and try to save your king if you think you can!"
With a demonic laugh, Lake shouted into the surroundings as he sent a wide-range provocation through his Kinship Skill to everyone around him.
Try me.
"GROARRR!"
As if sensing the meaning behind Lake’s words, the herd of bison roared in unison as they all madly dashed towards Lake and the earthen spikes trapping their leader.
****
"That psycho, he’s gone and done it now..."
On the other side of the battlefield, Kate, who had regrouped with the other two, was looking at the rampaging Lake with gritted teeth.
"Hah, hah, I didn’t know Sir Lake is such a proficient liar... He really got me this time." Bramble spoke with labored breaths, the shockwave from the Giant Bison’s ground slam still affecting him.
"That asshole! I’m going to kill him after this!"
"Hah, Ha, now calm down, Sister. It is still too early to be getting this riled up."
"Bramble is right. We can’t afford to slack off now. Bramble, how is your stamina looking?"
"Not that good, I’m afraid, my Lady."
"Fine, find a safe place to wait. Sylph will pass by and heal you once she’s done on her side."
"Yes, my Lady."
"Iris, what about you?"
"I’m still fine."
"Mhm, good. For now, I want you to focus on defeating any fleeing bison or those closer to the edge of the group."
Iris nodded her head but seemed to realize the hidden meaning in Kate’s words.
"What about you?"
As Kate heard Iris’ question, she sighed defeatedly as an annoyed look appeared on her face.
"Our psycho leader just gave me an order, so I’m on my way to complete it."
Iris didn’t ask more after hearing it had something to do with Lake. She didn’t feel like sullying her mood any further by listening to his words. Although, she did feel a small bit of pity for Kate.
"Awooo!!"
Just then, an ear-piercing howl sounded out from the other side of the battlefield.
Looking over, Kate and the others could see that the previously fallen Alpha Wolf was standing as it roared at the sky.
"Awoo!"
With the howl of their alpha, the other wolves that had fallen back after the Giant Bison’s ground slam had returned with renewed vigor as they stared savagely at the herd of bison.
Kate thought that the Alpha Wolf was going to join the battle again after recovering, but instead, she saw it suddenly start running straight for them!
"!"
"Don’t tell me it betrayed us already?!!"
With this thought running through her mind, she hurriedly readied herself as she raised her sword.
Whoosh!
In an instant, the Alpha Wolf crossed the huge distance, leaving a trail of violent wind behind. Contrary to her belief, the Alpha Wolf didn’t attack her but stopped right in front of her.
"Wow! That was so cool!"
Hearing a playful, yet almost childlike voice sound out from atop the Alpha Wolf, Kate sighed as she finally understood what was going on.
Soon, the elegant figure of a gorgeous fairy fluttered off the back of the Alpha Wolf. Hovering right next to it, the Alpha Wolf raised its head and licked the fairy next to it.
"Ehehe, No! Stop it! Bad boy!"
"Ruff!"
Feeling the licks getting more aggressive, the fairy shouted out as she wiped the saliva covering her face.
"Sylph!"
Iris was the first to call out the fairy that came riding over on the Alpha Wolf.
"Hehehe, Hi Iris- Ah! Bramble, are you alright?!"
Sylph, who was playing with the Alpha Wolf, suddenly jumped when she saw the weary appearance of Bramble.
Flying over quickly, she quickly began to heal him with her glowing hands.
"Ahaha, I’m fine, Sylph...What about you?" Bramble asked, exhausted.
"I-I’m fine. Lake asked me to stay in the sky after the battle began so I didn’t do much. Oh! Well, I guessed I also helped this little fella over here."
Sylph smiled brightly as she pointed to the Alpha Wolf with one hand.
Iris, who saw the interaction between the wolf and Sylph, walked over curiously, "How did you manage to get so close with him, Sylph?"
"Hm? That’s kinda hard to describe..."
"Then save it for later." Kate suddenly interrupted the two.
"We still have work to do. Sylph, since you’re so close, could you tell the Alpha Wolf to get his wolf pack to help us deal with the remaining bison?"
"I-I can try!"
Sylph nodded her head before looking over to the Alpha Wolf.
Using some simple one-handed gestures, the Alpha Wolf seemed to understand the assignment as he howled towards the sky again. Immediately after, the pack of wolves moved to encircle the herd again.
Nodding her head, Kate gave her final orders.
"Sylph, stay here with Bramble until he recovers. Iris, work with the wolves to finish off the remaining bison."
"I’ll go with the Alpha Wolf to assist Lake."
When she said this, she turned to look at the Alpha Wolf, but seeing that it had no intention of moving, she frowned before whistling to catch its attention.
Copying Sylph, she used simple gestures to convey her meaning.
"You."
"Me."
"Go over there."
The Alpha Wolf seemed to be displeased at Kate ordering it around as it arrogantly shifted its head to the side.
"Huh?" Kate felt a vein pop up on her forehead but she kept a smile on her face.
Raising her hand again, she did another set of gestures, this time, a little different.
She pointed one finger at Lake before pointing at the Alpha Wolf.
The Alpha Wolf still seemed disinterested at this, but then she suddenly smacked her two fists against each other before pointing at the two again.
With the chilling smile she had on her face, even the Alpha Wolf seemed to understand it’s meaning as it began to shiver uncontrollably.
The fairies were standing behind her, so they didn’t see her gestures clearly, but they saw the scared expression on the Alpha Wolf’s face and wondered what she told it.
"Hmm, I’m glad to see that my understanding of Lake is still as good as ever. Although, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing..."
Shaking these thoughts out of her head, Kate gave the order for everyone to move out as she headed towards the center of the battlefield to meet up with Lake, the Alpha Wolf following closely behind her.
