Chapter 101: The Different Tiers of Roles
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Different Tiers of Roles
On the next day, once the sun had risen, Lake and his group finally began their counterattack.
Without the restriction the night had placed on their sight, the group could once again spot the blurry figures and proceeded to fiercely attack the remaining monsters.
Their speed of progression was much faster than the previous day as Jayce and Landur had become accustomed to the attack patterns of the creatures after fighting them all night.
Lake was also a fan of this as this meant the speed at which he gathered RP was much faster.
Unfortunately, Lake knew that after their night raid, the remaining Lizardmen and Ambush Fangs were less than fifty combined together.
Once the sun had passed the middle of the sky, Lake and the rest had already finished clearing out all the monsters in the forest.
The group was currently taking a small break in the woods, recovering their expended mana.
Lake also took this as a chance to refine the mana he had absorbed last night.
[RP Points = 4091.964]
Looking at his RP Points, Lake was in a profound mood.
After two days of hard work, his RP points had increased by almost 3000!
When Lake saw this, he couldn’t help but think.
By judging the number of Lizardmen he had seen in the fates of the ones he had slain, he estimated that the main Lizardmen tribe in the mountains had close to 100 members.
After a simple calculation, that was almost 10,000 RP points!
If Lake could completely eradicate the Lizardman tribe and absorb all of their fates, he could finally upgrade the Observer of Fate skill!
Although Lake was mainly using his Mage and Master Assassin roles lately, whether it be for increasing RP or in practical use, he had never once forgotten the small detail in his status screen.
[Primary Role = Master of Fate.]
Primary Role. A small line of text but its meaning profound. Despite how powerful the Master Assassin class or Mage role was, they were both still considered secondary roles.
Master of Fate was his primary role and it was that for a reason. That was because Master of Fate was a High Tier Role!
At this point, Lake had a role for each of the three different tiers. Mage was Low Tier, Master Assassin was Mid Tier, and Master of Fate was High Tier!
The difference between each tier from what Lake had seen was extraordinary. A low tier role should correspond to the peak level of skill and proficiency that a talented person at that role can reach. This would mean that if Lake were to receive a low tier role, he would be standing at the peak of humanity using just that. For example, if he were to get a Marksman role and maxed out each skill, no one in the world would be able to surpass him in terms of marksmanship with only a few that could match up to him.
Mid Tier roles on the other hand were to transcend even that peak and step into the realm of the supernatural. This could be seen in the case of Lake’s Master Assassin Role. His Stealth Skill, once it reached level two, allowed Lake to avoid the detection of cameras even if he were to stand right in front of it and could even control the vibration of the particles around him to prevent any disturbance when he was moving through water. This level of control and abilities was not something a normal person could achieve no matter how talented they were or how hard they trained.
As for High Tier roles, Lake wasn’t sure of that yet as its mysteries still eluded him. Only if he could complete the quest and receive the High Tier role reward at the end, could he make a conclusion. But for now, he could at least confirm that the skills and abilities of a High Tier role would definitely surpass those of both Mid and Low Tier roles so upgrading them was his highest priority.
Soon some time had passed and the group had mostly recovered. Once everyone was ready, they headed south towards the mountain where the Lizardmen resided.
....
"That’s the mountain where the Lizardmen have taken up residence." Gwen spoke as she watched the towering mountain ahead of them.
Its cliffs were tall and steep, making it seemingly impossible to climb. The only entrance was a narrow valley that led further into the mountain.
"What’s the plan of approach?" Jayce asked as he surveyed the area.
"I’m not sure. Approaching head on seems to be a bad idea as we already know that the Lizardmen are a sneaky and intelligent race. The chances of them setting a trap in the only entrance to the valley is extremely high." Gwen spoke as she looked at everyone else, "Any ideas?"
"How about we wait until they come out? After all, in such a barren mountain, they would have to occasionally leave in order to get food right? We could wait until they make a move before analyzing their pattern and coming up with a better plan." Hana spoke out.
"Good idea, however, what would we do if they decided to rush out in a hunting party of more than fifty in the middle of night. With how well they blend in, it wouldn’t be surprising if we were surrounded before we knew it and chased for hundreds of miles in the middle of the night." Lake suddenly spoke out as he observed the halo of fate above their heads.
It was a deep red color indicating a bloody event in the near future.
"As for fighting back when that happens, we already struggled so much to fend off less than five Lizardmen in the middle of the night, imagine what would happen if 10s of them gathered together and surrounded us."
"Hmm, then what if we sneak in through the front entrance or back?" Jayce recommended as Lake observed the subtle change in his fate.
"Also a bad idea. Take a look at the valley." Lake spoke as he pointed towards the high cliffs, "The walls of the valley are steep and narrow while the tops are flat. The Lizardmen are intelligent, they probably hid a few scouts in the upper part of the valley to stand watch. If we walk through the narrow valley, no matter how good our stealth skills are, it would be extremely easy to spot us."
When everyone heard Lake’s counterpoint to their plans, they all felt it was very reasonable and pointed out some critical flaws in their plans so they didn’t question it but nodded in understanding instead.
"Well then, do you have any idea on how we could raid it?" Gwen suddenly asked as she looked at Lake.
"I do have one... but you probably aren’t going to agree to it."
"What is it? I’ll hear you out first." Gwen and the rest looked over curiously. Since Lake had a plan, they didn’t mind listening to it.
"The plan is fairly simple. I scale the cliff walls and reach the top where the scouts are most likely located and infiltrate the base by myself..."
Lake didn’t even finish his sentence before Gwen cut him off, "Absolutely not! I won’t let a member of my team take such a big risk that could endanger their life."
"That’s right, first year. The reason why the academy allows us to go out on hunts in the first place is one part due to our high martial realm, but it’s mostly due to the fact that we hunt in groups. When we’re together, we can look out for each other’s backs and that allows us to survive the fights even if we’re outnumbered or out classed." Landur spoke up.
Everyone also nodded in agreement to indicate that they weren’t willing to let Lake go in alone.
Lake was unable to argue their point so he instead changed his approach. Although if he worked on his own he could be twice as efficient and move around much easier, it was indeed more dangerous that way so he didn’t continue the previous idea.
"What if I go up and instead take out the scouts, allowing for the rest of you to enter through the front unnoticed?" Lake proposed his new solution.
Hearing this solution, the group paused for a moment before thinking. Although this method was still a dangerous task for Lake to accomplish, it was indeed much less dangerous than the first option he proposed.
"Hm, it could work but are you sure you can deal with the Lizardmen scouts if they’re up there?" Gwen asked once to confirm.
"One hundred percent confident. You’ve all witnessed my stealth skills, so long as I’m not seen, I can dispatch them easily one by one and to lower the risk, if there are more than five Lizardmen, I’ll retreat immediately."
Hearing Lake’s plan, the group hesitated for a while. If they could take out any potential scouts before moving in, it would indeed save them a lot of trouble.
After deliberating for a while Gwen sighed before asking, "How do you plan to scale the cliffs?"
