Chapter 102: Fur???

Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Fur???

At the top of the cliff to the left of the valley, a group of Lizardmen were patrolling near the edge of the cliff.

There were five Lizardmen in total. Two were keeping watch on the entrance to the valley while the other two were investigating a clearing. The last one was patrolling the edges facing outside of the mountain.

To another side of the cliff was a steep drop over a hundred meters tall. At the bottom of the edge was the bottom of the mountain.

This drop was almost 90 degrees steep with few protrusions in the wall, a pile of rubble located at the bottom.

Normally, this sheer cliff would be impossible to climb without special equipment or training, even for a martial artist.

However, near the top of the cliff, a figure hung onto the ledge, his fingers and feet sticking to the steep wall like a spider.

This figure, naturally, was Lake.

He had just run vertically up an almost 90 degree wall, leaving the rest of his hidden teammates shocked.

The reason why he didn’t directly jump up the cliff wall was because he could sense that there were five Lizardmen located at the top of the cliff.

Two were standing near the cliff by the valley, two were investigating a small clearing between some rocks, and the last one was walking close to the edge where Lake was currently sticking to.

Lake didn’t immediately make a move upon sensing the Lizardmen above him. Instead, he focused his senses. He had already gotten accustomed to the new changes his upgraded Sixth Sense brought him.

[Sixth Sense lv. 2 - All assassins eventually develop a special sixth sense once they have gained enough experience. This sixth sense allows them to filter out the unimportant and break through illusions. It also functions as a danger detector that manifests as a unique feeling to warn you of any immediate danger. At the current level, this sense only functions within a range of 100 meters and all of your senses are heightened to the extreme.]

Besides the increase in the detection range of his sixth sense, increasing from 30 meters to a 100 meters, all of Lake’s senses had been enhanced to a supernatural level of extremes!

With his enhanced vision he was able to see the wings of a fly from more than a kilometer away. He could hear and feel the smallest disturbances in the environment from hundreds of meters away and could even hear the heartbeat of everyone within a hundred meters.

As for his sense of smell, that had been enhanced to the point where Lake could sniff out the individual pheromones in the air. From it, he could even smell the pheromone that creatures emit when they feel distressed or fearful within range.

As for the Lizardmen above him, besides from the three that were patrolling and keeping watch, Lake could roughly sense a feeling of confusion from the two Lizardmen that seemed to be investigating something. He did this by analyzing the way they moved, the irregular beats of their heart, and the slight sense of fear they were emitting.

"Blood..." Lake frowned.

He could sense a faint scent of blood in the area. It was extremely light and seemed to have dried up recently but Lake could still pick it up.

However, what left Lake confused was that from the fishy scent he picked up in the blood, he could tell that it belonged to another Lizardmen.

"Infighting?" That was Lake’s first thought as he knew the Lizardmen were a tribal species. Fights between members were common, but after thinking about it for a while, he gave up on that idea.

If it was infighting, the Lizardmen wouldn’t have been feeling confused or fearful. Something else must have happened to leave them feeling like this.

Lake thought for a few seconds before using the small clues to piece together an answer.

"Something else killed them and they don’t know what did it..."

Lake’s expression changed slightly as he thought of this. If this was the case, this simple hunt may have to be canceled.

After all, a creature that could kill a Rank Two Lizardman was not something Lake or the other members of his group could mess with.

However, his senses weren’t picking up on anything else in the area, whether it be his enhanced senses or the mystical sixth sense.

"For now, let’s deal with the patrol team and investigate further..."

As Lake thought of this, the Lizardman that was patrolling near his ledge was standing right above him.

Swoosh!

Puchi!

Before the Lizardman could even realize what had happened, Lake jumped up before stabbing him in the heart with an arrow.

Gripping its snout to prevent it from making any noise, Lake silently lowered the Lizardman’s body to the ground.

The area he was standing in was a blind spot for the other four Lizardmen and Lake had been completely silent when he killed the one in front of him.

Looking at the remaining four Lizardmen, a cold glint gleamed across Lake’s eyes.

The two pairs of Lizardmen were separated with only the pair investigating the blood being able to see the one near the edge.

Grabbing two arrows from his quiver, he enveloped them in mana before silently walking towards the pair at the ledge as he casually glanced through their fates.

Although Lake’s presence was concealed, he was walking in the open which allowed the two Lizardmen who were investigating the blood to quickly take notice of him.

However, by the time they had seen him, Lake had already flung the two arrows, and as if they had a mind of their own, they flew through the air before piercing the hearts of the two Lizardmen.

The other two Lizardmen who were observing the valley seemed to have noticed the commotion going on behind them, but by the time they looked to turn around, it was already too late.

Rip!

Splash!

Lake reached forward, sinking his claws into each of the Lizardmen’s necks. With a heavy pull, he ripped out their throats as blood splashed everywhere.

That sequence of moves that Lake performed just now was not something he could have done before as no matter how skilled he was as an assassin, killing more than two enemies in such a seamless way was beyond him.

The only reason he was able to do it was because he had taken the time to upgrade another one of his skills before coming up here.

[Assassinate lv. 2 - To assassinate is an art and as a Master Assassin, you are a master of it. At the current level you can assassinate your target as easy as breathing without them even knowing and can seamlessly link multiple assassinations together, creating an endless chain of death. (This skills scales with the host’s stats)]

Since this was a stealth mission Lake felt that it was only right that he upgraded all of his Master Assassin skills to at least level two and Assassinate was the only one among them that was still level 1.

The upgrade only cost him five hundred RP points to complete and after his little massacre just now, he had already recovered all of it.

As for the effects... Lake was extremely satisfied with this power up.

In the future, if he met a group of enemies at the same level, he could theoretically kill them all no matter how many came. The only restriction was his stamina which was incredibly high. Coupled with his mana that could be used to restore his expended energy...

Lake felt that he could take on a thousand enemies at once!

However, Lake knew that theory was different from practical. Although he could theoretically fight an endless amount of enemies, that was only in the case where the enemies didn’t use ranged or area of effect attacks to target him from afar.

No matter how strong or how fast he was, if he were to be besieged by thousands of projectiles, he would be turned into a pin cushion.

After dealing with the Lizardmen and collecting the fates, Lake didn’t immediately go to signal the group to move forward.

Instead, he walked forward and checked the blood stains the previous two Lizardmen were investigating.

The area was relatively clear. Besides a few broken spears and the dried up bloodstains, there was nothing else that stuck out in the surroundings.

However, this only caused Lake to frown.

"No signs of struggles... To be able to kill a Lizardmen so easily this thing must be at least a Peak Rank Two monster or possibly even Rank Three."

When Lake thought of this, he knew that this hunt was a lost cause.

Lake was confident that he could defeat any Rank Two creature as long as he was able to sneak up on it, but a Rank Three could easily crush Lake whether it be in a straight up fight or a sneak attack.

The difference wasn’t something Lake could cross even with all of his skills and tricks.

This was because just the basic defense of a Rank Three creature was enough to make all of Lake’s attacks meaningless.

When Lake had the Skylark under his control, he made it let down all of its defenses. Only then, did he target the severe wound on its neck to finish it off.

If none of these conditions were met, even if Lake tried to kill the Skylark and controlled it to lower its defenses, he still wouldn’t be able to pierce his blade deep enough to do damage.

If a Rank Three creature was really hidden within these mountains, Lake had to leave immediately.

As he was about to retreat however, his eyes noticed a small white thread on the ground. The thread was almost translucent to the point where if Lake’s eyes weren’t enhanced, he wouldn’t have noticed it.

Picking it up, he observed it for a while before realizing that it was a strand of fur. Knowing that the Lizardman didn’t have fur and there wasn’t any information of creatures with such translucent fur within the area, Lake assumed it must have come from the creature.

When he realized this, he thought for a moment before choosing to analyze it.

[Fur??? - 500 RP Points Required.]

When Lake saw the price, he felt a little uncomfortable but still continued to go through with it.

If the analyze function of the system was able to confirm that it was a Rank Three creature, then there was nothing Lake could do about it and he would at least be able to save his life by running away ahead of time.

However, if the creature was only Rank Two...

Gritting his teeth, Lake confirmed the system prompt in his mind as rows of text appeared in front of him.

"!"

After reading through them, Lake was left stunned as a strange expression appeared on his face.
