Chapter 100: Runic Language
Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Runic Language
"Heal."
After Hana had finished cleaning Jayce’s wound, Lake casted a low level healing spell.
"!"
Everyone was shocked as they watched the wound on Jayce’s shoulder start to miraculously close up. After a few seconds, the wound had fully sealed, leaving behind a large scar on his left shoulder.
"This..." Jayce and the others stared in amazement at the healed shoulder. Usually a wound like that would take a day or two of resting in the academy’s infirmary to heal to this level.
That was why when they saw Lake heal the wound with just a casual wave of his hand, they were completely stunned.
Eventually the group recovered from their daze as they all looked over to Lake, curious about the bizarre phenomenon.
The only one that wasn’t looking was Gwen, who continued to stare at the scar on Jayce’s shoulder.
"How did you... do that?" Landur was the first to ask as he pointed at Jayce’s shoulder.
"It’s a healing skill." Lake didn’t explain much.
Everyone also seemed to understand that he didn’t wish to explain further so they didn’t ask, instead, they were just grateful that Jayce had recovered.
Gwen looked over to Lake before thinking for a moment.
Raising her hand she used her wristwatch to bring up a diagram.
On the diagram were various scribbles and text drawn out in an unrecognizable language.
"Lake, I wonder if you could understand this?"
Hearing Gwen call him out, Lake looked over but was instantly stunned. However, he quickly recovered as he asked, "What’s that?"
"I don’t know." Gwen shook her head, "This was a relic recovered from a rift by my family. We’ve been trying to decode it for decades now but had no avail, so I was wondering if you could perhaps give some insight into it?"
Lake smiled as he read through the diagram for a while.
After a few moments, Lake shook his head, "I don’t recognize the language. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help."
"It’s fine, I was just wondering if maybe you knew something."
Gwen canceled the projection from her wristwatch as she casually went back to normal as if nothing had happened.
Lake on the other hand had countless thoughts flowing through his head.
"Came from a rift, huh?"
Just now Lake had lied when he said he didn’t recognize the language. In fact, he was actually very familiar with it as he had already mastered it through one of his skills.
Runic Language!
This was the name of the language on the diagram Gwen had shown him. It was the standard language for all things magic, whether it be creating formations, casting spells, or coming up with new magical formulas, it all related to runic language.
The diagram Gwen had shown him was actually the magic formula for a mid tier spell.
When Lake had first seen it, he instantly understood its contents as he was very familiar with the process of designing spells as all of his spells were self created by himself.
However, the spell on the diagram was actually far more complex than any spell Lake had ever created. When Lake created a spell he usually only accounted for two factors, the effect, and the cost to cast it.
However, the spell in the diagram had actually accounted for several different factors that Lake had never thought about. Mana interactivity, environmental conditions, power input, power output, spell failure, spell reconstruction, spell takeover, cancelation, amongst a host of other things!.
When Lake had seen all these variables he felt like he opened a gateway to a whole new world.
This wasn’t to say that his arcane knowledge skill didn’t contain any information on these factors, it was just that Lake never thought to use them in his spell casting as the information was far too scattered and he couldn’t connect the dots on how to combine them.
The Arcane Knowledge skill only gave Lake the information, and left the method of processing up to him to figure it out.
Now, Lake felt that if he were to redesign a few of his spells and cast them again, their power and effect would be on a whole new level.
Thinking of this, Lake really wanted to get his hands on more of these diagrams as they would be of great assistance to his spell crafting abilities.
Taking a glance at Gwen, Lake thought to himself.
Just now he had lied to her about not knowing about the diagram. The reason why he did this was that he simply knew too little about Gwen and the Silverveil family behind her.
He didn’t know if he could trust her or what kind of personality she had or hid.
For example, Lake knew everything about Kate, from the day she was born to the moment she fell over and injured her head when she was training. He had nothing to worry about when it came to her personality and ethics as he knew her better than she knew herself. That was why he knew he could trust her with managing the training program and some more important matters.
Gwen on the other hand, Lake knew nothing about. His Observer of Fate ability was unable to read her fate, leaving him in the dark with regards to her background and personality.
If Lake couldn’t read someone’s fate, he would rather avoid all contact with them.
The only reason why he decided to join Gwen’s team instead of the other third year teams was because there were no other available third years left in the academy at the time, making Gwen’s team his last and only choice.
However, something Gwen said left Lake thinking.
"It seems that I might have to explore some more rifts in the future..."
....
After Jayce’s wound had healed, everyone immediately left the area. The rest weren’t sure on how the Lizardmen and Ambush Fang had tracked them down to their hiding spot so they rather move to somewhere else than stick around and find out.
However, Lake knew that no matter how far they ran, as long as they were in this forest, the Lizardmen would be able to find them.
Each Lizardman was highly adept at tracking and could find the group based on the smallest detail.
Lake could perfectly conceal his tracks with his Stealth Skill but the rest couldn’t do the same. Wherever the group went, some small trace was left behind and that was enough for the Lizardmen to find them.
During their journey through the night, the group was ambushed by five different groups of Lizardmen and Ambush Fangs when they thought they were safe.
Lake however didn’t say anything despite this. Although he could see that his teammates were getting tired from the constant fighting, he could only cheer them on from deep within his mind.
After all, the benefits he was reaping were simply way too great.

Looking at the constantly increasing RP Points, Lake felt as if he had returned to the Garden. Right now, he really wanted to rush into the woods and shout out so more Lizardmen would come running towards him.
Unfortunately, Lake knew that there were only a few Lizardmen actually located in the woods as most of them had already left for the mountain where the main tribe was located.
After a night of battling, there were almost no Lizardmen remaining with only a few Ambush Fangs scattered about.
If nothing went wrong, the group should be able to clear out the forest of monsters before the sun sets on the next day.
However, before they could do that, he should probably let the group take the chance to rest as Jayce and Landur were covered in countless bite and scratch marks.
As the frontline fighters, they were the ones in the most danger and had to face the brunt of the enemy’s forces.
They were even poisoned a few times by the Ambush Fang’s venom causing them to burn through a lot of their mana reserves to get through it.
The reason why they did so badly was mostly due to the night. The darkness greatly prohibited them from reaching their full potential in a fight.
That’s why, Lake could hear them constantly murmuring to themselves.
"I swear... once the sun comes up, all you fuckers are dead..."
....
Deep within a mountain range located south of the woods Lake and the party was currently fighting in, a group of Lizardmen was patrolling around cliffs within a valley.
The main tribe was located deep within the valley and it was their job to warn the tribe of any approaching danger ahead of time.
Looking around in the dark night, the Lizardmen held their spears tightly, highly alert for any movement in the valley below.
The valley was narrow and the cliffs were steep. This made it so that there was only one entrance to the valley that the Lizardmen had to keep an eye on.
It was also for this reason that the group didn’t realize the pair of large glowing eyes looking down on them from above...
A few minutes later, all the Lizardmen were gone leaving behind only a few drops of blood and broken spears.
