My Pregnant Contract Wife Ran Away from Me! -
Chapter 319: Who Does She Think She Is?
Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Who Does She Think She Is?
Wen Ran saw this and felt a strange emotion bubbling up inside her.
It felt sour, but she didn’t think she was the type to get jealous.
After all, she had always reminded herself that once the one-year contract ended, she and Fu Chenlie would divorce. She had positioned herself as nothing more than a contract wife, restraining and shackling her emotions.
Both physically and emotionally.
But seeing Fu Chenlie place so much importance on another woman, watching him chat happily and freely with her, Wen Ran felt as though there was something lodged in her chest—neither up nor down.
Downstairs, after their conversation, Fu Chenlie personally opened the car door for the woman.
The woman bent down and got into the car, waving goodbye to her.
Wen Ran turned around and walked back to her resting room in a daze.
In reality, she didn’t need to let her mind wander so much. If not for the woman downstairs, there was Jiang Wan Ning.
Just because Jiang Wan Ning wasn’t back now didn’t mean she’d never return.
The position at Fu Chenlie’s side could belong to the woman downstairs, to Jiang Wan Ning, or even to Xu Tong.
But it would never, ever belong to her.
Not long after, the office door was pushed open by Fu Chenlie.
When he returned, his eyes merely glanced indifferently at the driver’s resting room as he passed by the sofa on his way to his desk. He casually placed a gift bag there and then immediately started working.
Wen Ran’s peripheral vision stayed fixed on his movements the entire time, a small flicker of unreasonable hope lingering in her heart that he might talk to her about the woman downstairs.
But it wasn’t until the man sat back in his chair that she let out a self-mocking laugh.
Who was she, anyway?
Why would Fu Chenlie bother explaining anything to her?
Soon enough, it was time to clock off. Wen Ran, feeling low, prepared to leave even before Fu Chenlie called for her.
Today, without waiting for him to knock on her door, she had already gotten up and stepped outside.
The man squinted slightly, as if surprised. "Why so eager to leave work today? Got plans at home?"
"No, nothing," she replied.
"Nothing, yet you’re acting out of character?"
Wen Ran chuckled lightly and said, "Boss, let’s just say I’m trying to learn how to better read situations in order to be a good driver. Making you call out to me every day before heading off—it’s not a huge waste of your time, but still. Your time is worth billions, after all. My work isn’t so demanding; paying attention near the end of the day and heading out on my own initiative works pretty well, doesn’t it?"
Listening to her address him with one "you" after another in such a deferential tone, Fu Chenlie simply felt that something was off with her today.
He studied her carefully, taking his time before asking, "What’s going on with you?"
"Nothing’s wrong," she replied.
"Nothing’s wrong, yet here you are calling me ’you’ every chance you get? Since when have you been this respectful to me?"
Wen Ran’s lips curved into a faint smile. "I’ve always respected you. You’re a CEO of a multinational corporation. Meeting you in this lifetime must be the result of some past good karma of mine. Having the chance to be your contract wife for a year—how could I possibly disrespect you?"
Having spent years navigating the cutthroat business world, Fu Chenlie wasn’t someone who could fail to recognize sarcasm so blatant as this.
He took a step closer to her, fixing his gaze on her as his eyebrows furrowed. "Mrs. Fu, if you have something to say, say it clearly. Don’t play guessing games or sulk at me—it’s pointless, hmm?"
She let out a small laugh. "What do you mean? It’s after work. Shall I drive the boss home?"
Listen to the way she phrased that.
Drive the boss home?
In the past, she would naturally say—
Let’s go home.
If he claimed nothing was going on with her, he wouldn’t believe it for a second!
Fu Chenlie gave her a thorough once-over but chose not to press further in the office. Some things could wait to be discussed at home.
With this thought, he gestured toward the sofa with a tilt of his chin and instructed Wen Ran, "Go grab the items from the sofa."
