Chapter 315: Chapter 315: Enthralled

"Oh." She finally understood.

So he was heading downstairs to grab some tools.

Wen Ran trotted to catch up with him. "I’ll go with you and lend you a hand."

The man let out an "Mm," allowing her to follow.

The storage room on the first floor housed some basic household repair tools—screwdrivers, replacement bulbs, a folding ladder, and so on.

Fu Chenlie handed Wen Ran a screwdriver, then picked out a fairly decent-looking bulb for himself, along with a flashlight for illumination, before striding out of the storage room.

Wen Ran followed behind him and asked, "The ceiling is pretty high. Do you need a ladder?"

He replied nonchalantly, "Too heavy, not worth the trouble."

"Can you reach the light in my room?"

"Isn’t there still a chair?"

She chuckled. "True."

The man snorted lightly and marched upstairs with long strides.

Wen Ran followed him upstairs.

Once they reached the upper floor, Fu Chenlie went straight into Wen Ran’s room, glanced at the switch, and cast a sidelong look at her. "Is this switch down for off or up for off?"

She felt a bit awkward and scratched her head. "Uh... I don’t really remember."

"Alright, then here’s to hoping I’m lucky enough not to get electrocuted."

"Why don’t I go downstairs and turn off the main switch?"

He twitched the corner of his mouth. "That would be ideal."

She immediately replied, "Wait, I’ll do that."

With those words, the woman naturally shoved the screwdriver into Fu Chenlie’s hand and turned to run out of the room.

He watched her retreating figure, the corners of his lips curving into an unconscious smile.

Soon enough, Fu Chenlie saw the lights go out downstairs, guessing Wen Ran had turned off the main switch. Walking to the door, he wondered if she’d trip from the dim lighting in the house.

However—

As soon as he reached the door, the woman barged back in and collided directly with his chest.

Wen Ran bumped her forehead against him, then stepped back, glaring at him as she grumbled, "Why are you standing here?"

"Nothing. Let’s fix the light." With that, he turned and walked back to the center of the bedroom.

Wen Ran brought over the chair she usually used for doing her makeup. "You can stand on this."

"Alright, hold it steady."

"Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall."

Fu Chenlie scoffed lightly and handed her the flashlight. "Here, provide some light. I need to see clearly to replace the bulb."

"Got it."

He stepped onto the chair, first removing the lampshade, then began unscrewing parts of the bulb fixture using the screwdriver.

While helping to illuminate his work, Wen Ran tilted her head to watch him. Seeing his thin lips pressed firmly together as he carefully twisted screws and dismantled the light, she suddenly felt that his face seemed even more attractive than usual.

Her heart unconsciously moved in sync with his hands, and before she knew it, she’d fallen into a bit of a trance.

When Fu Chenlie handed her the dismantled bulb, she was so entranced that she didn’t reach out to take it.

He called out firmly, "Mrs. Fu?!"

Only then did she snap back to reality. "I’m here, shining the light. What’s wrong?"

The man raised the bulb in his hand closer to her face as a reminder.

Wen Ran finally realized what was going on. She took the bulb and placed it aside, then handed him the new bulb. "Here you go."

He accepted it, glanced at her briefly, and then began screwing and connecting the wires to install the replacement bulb.

She let out a soft sigh, silently cursing herself for being so shallow, losing herself just by looking at him like that...

After the new bulb was installed, Wen Ran ran downstairs to turn the main switch back on. When she returned to the room, she saw the bedroom light had come back on, filling the entire space with brightness.

She beamed at Fu Chenlie excitedly. "Is it fixed?"

He responded, "Mm. The wiring’s fine; it was just the bulb. Replacing it did the trick."

Wen Ran’s eyes sparkled as she looked at him with admiration. "I didn’t expect you to know how to handle wiring and fix lights. Turns out you’re quite the handy husband! These are definitely essential life skills!"
