My Pregnant Contract Wife Ran Away from Me! -
Chapter 126: Interest
Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Interest
Wen Ran thought his imagination was running wild.
Throughout her life, she had always maintained a proper social distance from boys, let alone giving them gifts; she didn’t even have a close male friend—only some acquaintances she would call classmates.
As for Qin Zeyu, at most he was a secret crush, and she hadn’t been bold enough to give him a present back then.
Fu Chenlie watched Wen Ran thoughtfully for a long time without speaking. His scrutinizing gaze fell on her face, "So, did I guess right?"
Wen Ran snapped back to reality and denied, looking at him, "No."
"You say no, and I’m supposed to believe you?"
"Why are you so suspicious? This gift was actually bought for you."
Hearing this, the man suddenly became interested, "Oh?"
"The other night, I accidentally hit your head. I was afraid you would take revenge, so I thought I should buy a gift as an apology, hence the lighter."
"Revenge?"
The man picked out the key word from her speech, sneering coldly, "In your eyes, am I so vengeful?"
She quickly defended, "How can it be considered vengeful when I made a hole in your head? Besides, who are you? You’re the CEO of Fu Group, worth a fortune; your brain is valuable. Hurting you, I admit, was somewhat wrong."
He was quite satisfied and complimented her with four words, "You know what’s good."
After speaking, the man lowered his head, fiddling with the lighter he had just received, thin lips curling with a hint of a smile, eyes deep, what he was thinking, unknown.
Wen Ran saw him finally shut his annoying mouth and quiet down, his usually fierce brows relaxed, and she couldn’t help but find the scene suddenly pleasant to the eye.
The living room was quiet for a while.
After some time, Wen Ran felt sitting there was pretty boring, so she wondered if she should go upstairs and sneak into Fu Chenlie’s study to read some books for her teaching certification exam.
Just then, a cell phone ringtone broke the silence.
She looked over following the sound.
Fu Chenlie picked up his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and then looked at Wen Ran.
She asked in confusion, "It’s your phone that’s ringing, why are you looking at me?"
He didn’t utter a word but answered the phone with a deep voice, "Grandma, what’s up?"
"Is Ranran at home?"
"If you want to ask her, why call me?"
The old lady scolded, "You brat, can’t I check on my granddaughter-in-law?"
"Tell me, what is it?"
"It’s the weekend, why don’t you bring Ranran to the family home for lunch?"
He glanced at Wen Ran and deliberately repeated the key point from the old lady’s words, "Go to the family home for lunch?"
Upon hearing this, Wen Ran immediately waved her hands at Fu Chenlie, her refusal very adamant.
She pointed to the back of his head where he had been injured and conveyed through lip-reading the reason, "It would be hard to explain to Grandma."
However, the man indifferently looked away, completely ignoring her hints and refusal; he even asked the old lady cheerfully, "What dishes are planned for lunch at the family home?"
Wen Ran felt utterly disheartened.
Now that he had asked what dishes were being prepared, it seemed there was no escape.
The night before, she had caused Fu Chenlie’s head injury. If they went to the family home and Grandma saw it, he would definitely tattle on her, and then Grandma would think her politeness and sensibility were all an act.
But she truly hadn’t been pretending.
Wen Ran hung her head, looking very troubled.
Fu Chenlie was still talking to the grandmother, "Hmm, got it."
"..."
"Okay, goodbye, Grandma."
Wen Ran couldn’t hear what Grandma was saying on the other end, but Fu Chenlie’s words in response were clear as day to her.
Without even thinking she knew, they were definitely going to the family home.
