Chapter 1539: 517. As the old saying goes, this is called ’alcohol emboldens the cowardly’_3
Two working-class folks were advising each other, with Dust Beater in a particularly bad state tonight. Normally a teetotaler, just two drinks had him spilling out everything he’d been holding back.
He said in a feeble voice:
"This afternoon, I went to see the Pallian Sisters; I wanted to clear things up and ask for their forgiveness. But they told me that they have already decided to follow the merchant group to study at Charldo Harbor. Mrs. Pallian has used her connections with Professor Malcolm to enroll them in school, and they have even secured a recommendation letter from Governor Milian.
They’re going to study at the Administrative College, and it will take at least four years to graduate.
Wuuwuuwuu, how can I wait for them in the game for four years! It’s uncertain whether this game will even exist in four years. Wuuwuu, I’ve completed the storyline. I truly didn’t expect it to be this torturous in the end. Doesn’t this mean I’m completely cut off from them, never to have a chance again?
Did I choose wrong and create a Bad Ending?
Wuuwuu, why can’t this damn game be restarted and played over."
"Holy shit, this plot is explosive! It’s like a real-life ’Ghost Love Story’."
Hundred Forging Big Horse exchanged glances with his brother.
The two older men saw the excitement and satisfaction of hearing gossip in each other’s eyes. In fact, Dust Beater’s story had already been circulating in the gaming community, with some envying him, some despising him, but most were angry at his lack of initiative.
But these are all people who talk without having to experience the pain themselves.
If they really had to go through the same story, it’s not certain they could do better than Dust Beater. Mainly because this young student had never been in a relationship before and then was suddenly plunged into one at double intensity. If he could withstand this, one could only say this guy was a natural-born Casanova.
But as it stands, Dust Beater is far from being a Casanova—he doesn’t even qualify as a water ghost!
As everyone knows, getting involved in others’ romantic affairs, urging guys to be brave, urging girls to be kind, convincing couples to break up, and convincing craftsmen to mend their ways are the finest qualities of men. Now that such an event has presented itself, how could the Broken Sword Master and Hundred Forging Big Horse miss out?
"Ah, young man, this is where you’re wrong."
The Broken Sword Master spoke first.
This guy poured another drink for Dust Beater, clinked glasses, and then put on an "old hand" attitude, coaxing him gently:
"You haven’t reached the end yet, why give up now? Even if they really are leaving, you still have five days, right? I think this is the last chance the development team is giving you in this ’romance game’.
What I’m saying is, whether it works out or not, you’ve got to express yourself."
"Right, right."
Hundred Forging Big Horse next to him excitedly passed over a drink, asking restlessly:
"First, tell us, did you express your feelings to the sisters?"
"I’ve apologized."
Dust Beater replied weakly, only to have Hundred Forging Big Horse slam his palm on the table causing three bowls of noodles to jump, startling the busy stall owner.
"I’m not asking if you’ve apologized! I’m asking if you’ve directly expressed your thoughts, your feelings for them in your heart, and your current mixed emotions. Sulking alone in the dark doesn’t do shit! They have no idea how sad and upset you are for them.
You need to have the guts to speak up, bro.
In a relationship, isn’t it always the girls who make the guys guess their thoughts? How come it’s reversed now, and you’re making the girls guess what’s on your mind?
Hey, that’s a bit too much, man."
"Right, right, they are dignified young ladies after all, how can you expect them to make the first move? You seem like a good kid, but maybe too good. I’ve been through it, and let me tell you, sometimes you have to be a bit braver."
The Broken Sword Master, smiling cheekily, poured another drink and clapped Dust Beater on the shoulder, encouraging him:
"Trust us brothers, we’ll escort you to Mrs. Pallian’s mansion, and you can just barge in there and, with the courage from the alcohol, spill out everything you want to say.
If they want to beat you up, your brothers will risk their lives to protect you!
But I think things are very unlikely to escalate to that point. Since you’ve said that after this parting you might never see each other again, at least be a ’knowing ghost’ right?
A big man like you not taking a stand in this matter, watching the one you love walk away, not even daring to fart and just sitting here shedding pearls, to be honest, I’m starting to look down on you."
Hundred forging big horse was stoking the fire on the side.
He and his brother took turns talking, and with the non-stop drinking, even Dust Beater’s determination firmed up.
He felt as if there was a fire burning in his heart, though it could very well be the alcohol scorching him. Anyway, after being bamboozled by some erratic thoughts, the guy finally decided to make a run for the tower.
The two brothers were excited as soon as they saw Dust Beater man up, Broken Sword Master banged on the table and shouted at the vendor:
"Hey, boss! Bring us two more bottles of wine! To embolden our brother here! Charge it to the blacksmith’s tab, and tell your boss to settle the account in a week."
"Coming right up."
The little vendor, who had been enjoying the gossip, swiftly handed over two bottles of wine and gave the three men a thumbs up, wishing them a smooth journey.
Hundred Forging Big Horse and Broken Sword Master flanked Dust Beater, one on each side, heading for Lady Palian’s residence in the city, fearing that the guy might chicken out midway. They quickly reached Lady Palian’s mansion, only to be stopped by the Trading Guild guards at the gate.
"How do you talk to your future son-in-law, huh?"
Broken Sword Master scolded the guard:
"My brother is here to make things clear with your young ladies tonight. You know the situation. I advise you to be kind, brother guard, for the sake of your future. How about this: we two won’t enter, just let my brother in, what do you say?"
"Damn!"
While the two were still pleading with the guard, Dust Beater, already tipsy from the alcohol, roared and kicked at the gate. The guards didn’t even react before the guy had already activated a Spiritual Energy trinket that increased his speed dramatically, and ’whoosh’, he was gone.
"Damn, this is bad, stop him!"
The two brothers were instantly in a frenzy, no longer having the luxury to savor the drama.
This incident of a player raiding a civilian house had never occurred in the game before, and they might be severely punished by the developers. But it was too late to run now; they could only follow the guards all the way into the courtyard.
By this time, Dust Beater was already being pinned to the ground by two female guards. Many people were startled by his actions, even the Pallian Sisters emerged from their rooms, wrapped in coats.
Such a disheveled and disgraceful Dust Beater, they were seeing him for the first time.
When the struggling Dust Beater saw his beloved come out, he suddenly calmed down. He looked at the two sisters through his drunken haze; the memories of the past few months surged to his mind and, in front of everyone, he burst into tears.
Crying, he yelled:
"Don’t leave, please? What’s the point of me staying here without you two? I was wrong, I shouldn’t have been so cowardly. I should have confessed when you first asked me.
I like you both.
I can’t differentiate between you, nor can I give up any one of you.
Sob, I really can’t let go."
Making such a spectacle in public, if it were another world, Dust Beater would have already been slapped across the face. But the emotions were indeed real. The Pallian Sisters, with flushed cheeks, felt a mixture of shyness and indignation, yet they still helped Dust Beater up and took him to the inner room.
Broken Sword Master and Hundred Forging Big Horse exchanged a glance at this scene, chuckled slyly between themselves, preparing to leave without seeking recognition. But just as they reached the entrance, they were stopped by two player law enforcers.
"Hey, you two are suspected of trespassing into a civilian house! There has been an NPC reporting this."
The lead player scolded:
"Don’t resist, come with us for a bit."
"Wow, dude, that’s a false accusation."
Broken Sword Master screamed:
"Plus, it wasn’t just the two of us who trespassed, it was three of us. Why are only we two being taken for tea?"
"Give me a break."
The law enforcement player, who went by the ID "Black Cat Chief", grinned and glanced back into the residence, saying:
"They’re family. Even if they kick down the door, it’s just coming home. It’s not quite the same with you two tagging along. Come on, come on, spend a night at our place. It’s nothing big, don’t worry about it."
