Chapter 1347: 455. Marsh and the Giant Serpent - Additional Update for Brother "Warm Wine Farewell" [21/25]

It wasn’t just Colonel Fraser and Chieftain Hog who felt the tremors of the Polluted Swamp—students entrenched in the battle lines of the swamp, now seizing territory, were well aware of when this eerie stirring occurred.

At the moment the first tremors arrived, Cheche, who had just rested in the newly-seized Post Six, immediately sprang into action. His high discipline, forged through numerous battles, allowed him to burst into the skies with his wings without hesitation, attempting to secure a better vantage point from the air.

However, the swamp was enveloped in a thick war fog, preventing Cheche from observing anything of substance.

All he could barely make out from above was a pulsing glow erupting in the eastern direction through the dim smog, reminiscent of fireworks ignited beneath a haze.

"Quick, quick! Get online, get online!"

Cheche dived back into the outpost and immediately woke up on his own bed, shouting at the other roommates who had just finished breakfast and were idly chatting:

"There’s trouble. Something’s happening in the direction of Disease Town. Although I’ve no idea what it is, I think we can seize the chance for another strike."

"Right away! I’ll call the sports students. Niu Niu was resurrected a few days ago, too. We have a shield T and can charge with no worries."

The dormitory erupted in chaos.

In less than five minutes, all six members of the dormitory group had awakened in the outpost. Ayu blew the horn used for summons, signaling the members of the Demon Eight Elites outside the outpost to lead their Skeleton Army this way.

From Cheche spotting the anomaly to these guys organizing an offensive was seamless. Fifteen minutes after the second tremor, under the cover of their own Skeleton Army, the vampires had already launched an attack on the seventh outpost.

While such mobilization strength couldn’t be considered top-tier on the entire Continent, it was certainly second to none within Transylvania’s military sequence. However, the result was not very satisfactory.

Although a problem had indeed arisen near Disease Town, the town’s outer defenses had not slackened.

The students’ attack crashed into a densely guarded net of Undead Army firepower at the frontline. After enduring ten minutes of various Psychic Spells and concentrated bone arrow and spear attacks, they retreated after suffering losses in their Skeleton Army vanguard.

"Something’s not right here!"

Coo Coo Chicken, nearly having his head blown off by a corrosive ray, cursed while wiping the filth from his face:

"How is it that their counterattack power is even stronger than yesterday? There are actually three Necromancers guarding that tiny outpost! It’s like seeing a ghost. Isn’t this supposed to be the outer defense line?"

"First off, if we break through Post Seven, it means we’ve achieved a breakthrough near Disease Town and established a foothold, so it’s only natural for them to focus on defense here.

Secondly, our activity over these past few days seems to have altered the deployment of the Skeleton Army. They’re beginning to concentrate on defending our area," Ayu sheathed her twin blades, thoughtfully stroking her chin:

"No wonder Stick Brother and Brother Meow aren’t in a hurry to attack. Those two cunning fellows probably realized this change long ago; they’re waiting for us to draw fire before breaking through from the other two directions."

"Damn! So, do we continue or not?"

Cheche cursed with annoyance:

"If we keep banging our heads like this, aren’t we just making wedding dresses for others?"

"Not at all, it’s not as simple as that," said Fire Demon Sanctus, who had just joined the students in the assault, leaning on an evil bone staff adorned with goat skulls, shaking his head while waving a finger:

"We might be at a disadvantage now, but as long as they break through the outer defense lines and get closer to Disease Town than us in one fell swoop, the battle protrusion becomes theirs. Given the strategic thinking in troop dispatching shown by these Jackal Warlocks, the tougher town defenses will likely reinforce the south and north parts.

As a result, when we attack near Disease Town, the pressure we face would be the least.

This, ah, is what you call pincer maneuvers and the flexible variation of battlefield posture."

"I haven’t studied much; don’t trick me. I remember a pincer maneuver doesn’t work like this, right? I’ve been reading the history of volunteer army wars lately," Gebao commented, but then spoke seriously:

"However, Holy Master is right. The three battle lines currently complement each other. We’re one team; let’s not bicker over such trivial matters. But we must agree with the other two sides in advance to prevent their cunning moves from affecting us.

Speaking of which, what exactly is happening in Disease Town?

Why are the tremors getting more intense?

Could it be the Jackal Warlocks are preparing ’Earthquake Skill’ trying to wipe us out? But this doesn’t seem to fit the bill."

---

"Forward! Push forward! Quick!"

As the outer battle lines faced assault, a massive Undead Legion was rapidly advancing under the towering gorges leading to the Swamp Forbidden Area east of Disease Town.

Led by a hundred Netherworld Knights, assault zombies clad in shabby armor and wielding crude weapons trudged through the muck. In the gloomy sky above, even more dangerous and vicious Demon Hearts, resentful spirits, were screeching loudly in groups as they flew forwards.

The most vulnerable Skeleton Cavalry carried out flanking actions, while the more proficient long-range Necromancers and Skeleton Mages were arranged in formations, with several Jackal Warlocks shaping wide-scale freezing winds to make the swamp terrain easier to traverse.

These undead were specially crafted in the construction tower for today’s operation, with enhancements in speed allowing them to march across the swamp as if on solid ground.
