Chapter 778: Chapter 778: Accomplishing What I’ve Always Wanted to Do

"A large-scaled grudge?"

Han Fei had seen such a description for the first time in the system prompt, and he stayed quietly in his place, daring not to make any sound.

The enormous monster was crouching in the middle of the street, placing its deformed ears on the pool of blood.

In the black rain, the blood, slowly dissipating, was being licked up by a child on the monster’s ear, as its massive body began to shift.

From the skin sewn together from children’s dresses, painful cries of children emitted, as the monster raised its completely mutated head and looked toward the room where Han Fei was.

"How did it find me?"

Han Fei’s fingers sunk into his skin, just as he wanted to summon Big Evil, the old man beside him suddenly cut a rope at the rear window.

One after another, rotten bodies fell from the roof of the neighboring house, seemingly the "food" the old man had stored for himself.

Seeing that he was targeted by the large-scaled grudge, the old man had to abandon them to buy himself some time.

The rolling bodies caught the attention of "Truth Listener," and the monster started climbing toward the adjacent building, but the deformed child’s face on its ear kept screaming, as if reminding the monster it was going the wrong way.

Taking advantage of this rare opportunity, the old man, with strange plants growing on his back, hurried downstairs, preparing to escape elsewhere.

Han Fei of course did not waste the time the old man fought for; he followed closely behind the old man with the Rebirth Slaughter Saber in his hand.

With only a drop of blood left, he pushed the profession characteristic of Midnight Butcher to the utmost. The lower his blood volume, the greater the enhancement of his physical attributes, and he was incredibly fast, so the old man could not shake him off.

When the two reached the first floor, the old man turned back and glared at Han Fei venomously, as if to tell him with his eyes—get lost!

Han Fei, who had added all his attribute points to physical strength, seemed not to understand the old man’s gesture and kept closely behind him. Together, they entered an underground passage and arrived inside a grocery store at the end of the street.

This was the old man’s real home, he really did not want Han Fei to enter, but initiating a conflict would attract the monster, so he forcibly suppressed the urge to tear Han Fei apart and hid with him on the second floor of the grocery store.

"Boom!"

Just a few seconds later, the building where they had been hiding was destroyed by "Truth Listener," with all the furniture and the bodies the old man had stored being smashed; nothing intact was left.

"The monster seems to have low intelligence; it can’t judge whether its prey is still alive, so it just crushes everything."

Han Fei looked at the old man, the old man with strange plants growing on his back was also glaring at him, seemingly cursing Han Fei furiously with his eyes.

"If I had logged on just a few minutes later, I might have been buried alive." Thinking this, Han Fei met the old man’s gaze defiantly.

When facing a powerful external enemy, internal conflicts are temporarily set aside, but once external pressure disappears, infighting begins.

Truth Listener had destroyed the building and then began wandering the streets, it took a good fifteen minutes before it headed for other blocks.

The old man’s tense nerves relaxed slightly as his snake-like eyes stared at Han Fei, his mouth opening to reveal teeth overgrown with mold-like substances, which was quite unsettling.

"It’s all because of you, all my bait has been wasted!" A hoarse and unpleasant voice squeezed from the old man’s throat, as if he hadn’t spoken in a long time.

"I thought you were mute," Han Fei positioned the Rebirth Slaughter Saber across his chest, "I found that room first. If you hadn’t drawn the monster there, I wouldn’t have been put in danger."

Faced with Han Fei’s accusation, the old man’s back trembled with anger: "All the buildings near the street corner belong to me!"

"Don’t be angry. What’s that growing on your back? A flower pot?" Han Fei knew Truth Listener hadn’t gone far, and given the old man’s fearfulness, he likely wouldn’t resort to actual fighting, maybe just some sneaky moves.

Hearing what Han Fei said, the old man grew even more infuriated, as if the plants on his back were a lifelong shame.

"You wouldn’t happen to be a creation of the Divine Spirit, would you?" Han Fei finished speaking and shook his head, "No, that’s not right, you’re too weak to be one."

Mentioning the Divine Spirit’s creation, the old man who had been shaking with rage gradually calmed down, as fear crushed all other emotions.

In this area covered by Black Rain, the name ’Divine Spirit’ signified far too much.

The old man retreated to the corner of the room, extending his arm that had been hidden in his sleeve, also covered in mold: "How could I be a work of the Divine Spirit? I am just a piece of junk, it’s the monster crawling outside that is the masterpiece of the Divine Spirit."

Noticing that the old man’s tone had softened, Han Fei used his abilities of Word Spirit and Flower Language to continue asking, "Why are they hunting you? What has happened in this area recently?"

Han Fei was well aware of the reason for the turmoil in the area, but he was adept at using the art of speaking to distance himself from everything.

"Last night someone killed a creation of the Divine Spirit in the Inner Area. I’m not clear why. All I know is the doors on the ground floor of the skyscraper were suddenly opened, and a creation of the Divine Spirit escaped," the old man inadvertently fell into Han Fei’s trap, not yet realizing Han Fei’s tone had changed, but feeling somewhat more agreeable towards him.

"That monster ran out from the skyscraper?" Han Fei felt he couldn’t stay in the Inner Area any longer as the place was too dangerous, "How about we head to the Outer District to avoid the storm? Do you know the way out?"

The old man did not respond immediately as if he was battling internally, "There are many streets connecting the Inner and Outer Districts, but we have the mark of Black Rain on us, we can never escape. We are just junk, trash that can be killed and discarded at any moment, barely struggling to avoid Soul Scattering is already a grace from the Divine Spirit."

"Since you think you’re just worthless junk, why struggle desperately? Making bait? Setting multi-sided traps? You don’t want to be scattered; even though this world is terrible, you still cling to it," Han Fei used his ability of Word Spirit again: "Let’s escape to the Outer District, it at least will be much safer there."

Just as the old man seemed persuaded by Han Fei, the sound of the rain outside suddenly intensified. The raindrops on the window turned red, as if little children were smacking the glass with bloodied hands.

Han Fei only sensed misfortune, but the old man’s reaction was much more intense, his whole face creasing with wrinkles: "No good, that thing is coming!"

The old man turned and ran without another word; while retreating, Han Fei glanced outside the window.

Under a broken streetlamp at the alley’s entrance stood a child wearing a backpack, his head lowered, appearing no different from a normal child.

In a place where all the residents were deformed and distorted, the appearance of such a normal child was quite jarring for Han Fei.

"Did the rain turn into blood upon touching this child? What is inside his backpack?"

The Big Evil within the Ghost Pattern issued a warning to Han Fei, and Han Fei’s mind also received a system alert.

"Player 0000, please be aware! You have discovered a Divine Spirit’s eleventh creation—’Child Who Does Not Love Home’."

"Child Who Does Not Love Home (Special Grudge): This child is very afraid of going to his own home, and no one knows what is hidden there. Be careful when you encounter him, and definitely do not let him follow you home."

"Another special grudge?"

When Han Fei looked back under the streetlamp, the child had already disappeared, and he felt a chill run down his spine: "Could that child be thinking of following me home?"

Not daring to stay, Han Fei chased after the old man, fleeing frantically towards the outside.

"Let’s split up and run! Stop following me!"

As they left the room, the old man, worried that his voice would be heard by "Truth Listener", began constantly signaling Han Fei with his eyes, but sadly Han Fei stuck to him like a plaster, impossible to shake off.

"You’re old; how can you manage alone?"

Running across the intersection, the old man led Han Fei into one empty house after another, but no matter where they hid, as soon as they thought to catch a breath, a knocking sound would start, and it seemed the child insisted on following them home.

"Why would a divine spirit’s creation go into a frenzy?"

The old man grew increasingly frightened as he realized that the child was intentionally driving them towards the skyscraper, and now they were getting farther and farther from the outer district.

"We can’t keep running!"

As several withered leaves fell from the plants on his back, the old man trembled and looked toward the end of the rainy night, his entire being standing in the shadow of the skyscraper: "Once we enter the building, we’ll never be able to get out!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The urgent knocking grew louder as the Child Who Does Not Love Home seemed to stand just outside the door, and what’s worse, the large-scaled grudge Truth Listener was also moving in this direction—if they were surrounded, Han Fei and the old man would have no escape.

"Let’s gamble! Instead of entering the skyscraper where we can neither live nor die, we might as well take a chance here!" As the mood of the old man escalated, the strange plants on his back began to draw his blood and then leak a foul-smelling black substance from beneath his skin.

Han Fei didn’t know what the old man’s abilities were; he also had to guard against being backstabbed by the old man at the last moment.

The situation now was indeed very grim. Han Fei didn’t dare to let out the Big Evil, his only reliance, as if the Big Evil were lured away by the child outside, no one could handle the large-scaled grudge.

"What else do I have up my sleeve?"

The knocking sounded like the notes of a death knell, and Truth Listener began to move faster towards this location. Han Fei gritted his teeth and whispered urgently to the old man, "Help me buy some time."

"Why should I? You think you can survive alone if I die?" The plants growing on the old man’s back began to grow rapidly like a child, and his body and sanity were being sucked away.

"I’ve always wanted to try something, but I never had the chance on my own turf. We’re so close to the skyscraper, making a mess here probably doesn’t matter." Han Fei quickly entered the adjacent room, opened the attribute panel, and unconsciously glanced at the exit button.

No miracle occurred, and Han Fei then used another one of his active skills.

He took out the Soul-guiding Bell from the item bar, shaking it frantically while softly chanting, "Soul-summoning!"

The attribute panel instantly became covered in blood, the Ghost Gate slowly opened, revealing the terrifying Blood Sea.

"The game exit and login always turn everything to blood—this Blood Sea might be the true appearance of the Deep World."

This time, unlike before, Han Fei didn’t directly chant a person’s name, knowing that Soul-summoning had a chance of failure and might summon other things.

Now, relying on Big Evil to save his life, he pinned his hopes on Soul-summoning.

Ripples stirred in the Blood Sea, and countless Ghost Faces viciously tore at the Blood Sea, but since Han Fei hadn’t chanted a soul’s name for a long time, those Ghost Faces gradually surged toward Han Fei on this side of the Ghost Gate.

Soul-summoning came with a price, and Han Fei still didn’t know what it was, but he knew if he didn’t shout out a name, those Ghost Faces might drag him into the Blood Sea!

To make Soul-summoning fail, he couldn’t summon people with particularly low luck values, such as Shen Luo and Huang Ying, nor could he summon those tormented by dark energy.

As Han Fei thought it over, a face emerged in his mind; he had just confirmed the person’s identity earlier that night.

With the Soul Bell swaying, Han Fei softly called out Ye Xian’s name towards the Ghost Gate.

The surge of Ghost Faces brutally smashed into the Blood Sea, but no face returned.

"Soul-summoning failed?"

Ye Xian didn’t appear, and nothing else came out of the Blood Sea.

Han Fei watched the Ghost Gate slowly closing, and again shouted, "Soul-summoning!"

The almost-closed Ghost Gate was forcibly opened once more, but the Blood Sea seemed to have become somewhat restless.

"There’s something under the water!"

Han Fei saw a shadow rising from under the blood, the enormous pressure making even Big Evil scream, and the Ghost Faces on the water’s surface began to scatter and flee.

At that moment, the most appropriate action was to immediately end the Soul-summoning Ceremony and close the Ghost Gate, but Han Fei acted like those characters in horror films who always betray their comrades, and he turned to run.

Seeing Han Fei charging out fiercely, the old man outside also had his heart pounding; he even thought another of the Divine Spirit’s creations had entered the room.

"What were you just doing?"

"Fulfilling something I’ve always wanted to do!"
