Chapter 779: D-Class Hidden Map
Chapter 779: Chapter 779: D-Class Hidden Map
Pioneers of an era often possess several characteristics: a thirst for knowledge, ambition, a sense of team cooperation, and a spirit of dedication to exploration.
Han Fei had all these traits. He collaborated with an old man and, on someone else’s turf, opened the Ghost Gate he was always curious about, risking his own life to summon an unknown monster from the Blood Sea.
Perhaps moved by Han Fei’s actions, the old man looked at the crazily spreading blood color behind Han Fei, his eyes slightly moist.
"You... are insane!"
What lies deep in the sea, Han Fei didn’t know himself; he just wanted to escape urgently now.
Feeling the terrifying aura emanating from inside the room, the old man’s bizarre plants on his back withered a bit, seemingly too scared to bloom carelessly.
The knocking at the door of the cabin also stopped abruptly, and the door lock slowly wobbled before falling to the ground.
The door slowly opened, and a child carrying a backpack appeared at the doorway.
As Divine Spirit’s eleventh creation, the child was an extremely formidable being within the Special Grudge, so much so that where he stood, even the Black Rain would turn into blood rain.
"Uncle, Grandpa, can you shelter me for one night?"
The childish voice emanated from the boy’s mouth, his backpack zipper automatically unzipped, and a scarred arm extended out, reaching directly for Han Fei’s neck.
"Run!"
Han Fei, not caring about anything else, pushed open the window and was about to jump out when he suddenly heard the sound of something breaking.
Turning his head, he saw the arm that extended from the backpack drop to the ground, its broken end sporting several rows of ferocious teeth marks.
Strange noises were coming from the partition, and countless blood vessels, like pythons sighting their prey, crawled out from the partition walls and swiftly took over half of the living room.
Han Fei had still not seen what the monster from the Blood Sea looked like. The mere aura it emitted was enough to terrify him and the old man.
The time to close the Ghost Gate had come, but it seemed the monster was using its body to block the Ghost Gate, preventing it from closing.
"How can you be so impolite?" The little boy looked at the severed arm on the ground, ink seemingly dripping into his clean pupils as they gradually clouded over, exuding pure malice: "Why did you bite off Daddy’s arm?"
A copious amount of blood poured from the base of the backpack, numerous arms made from human remains stretched out from the boy’s backpack, reaching for the compartment.
The boy’s ability was incredibly powerful, but no matter how he attacked that room, all the arms would break.
Accompanied by a piercing roar, the monster Han Fei had summoned seemed to have completely broken free from the constraints of the Blood Sea, its body squeezing out of the Ghost Gate and dyeing the entire building blood-red.
"What on earth did you bring forth?" The old man felt his soul might be sucked away.
"If I knew, wouldn’t I have told you earlier?" Han Fei was also panicking. He realized that as the summoner, there was an unbreakable connection between him and the unknown monster.
In other words, the monster and he could always sense each other’s location.
"If I use the Soul-returning Talent on that monster, will it return to the Blood Sea, or will it be directly sent to the Shallow World?"
Scientific exploration often takes detours and incurs some costs. Han Fei was just grateful that he had conducted the experiment on someone else’s turf.
"Don’t look! Run!"
Han Fei cared deeply for the old man. He left the little boy alone to face the Blood Sea Monster, grabbed the old man by the neck, and together they jumped downstairs, perfectly embodying respect for the elderly.
After their departure, the battle between the little boy and the unknown Blood Sea Monster officially began.
The entire building was soaked in blood, the boy’s cries resonated, all the window glasses shattered, and occasionally, a fast-moving Blood Shadow could be seen.
The boy’s backpack seemed like a bottomless Skeleton Cage; various bones emerged as if trying to weave into a Skeleton Cage, desperately trying to restrain the Blood Shadow, but the speeds of the two were too disparate.
The cries echoed in the rainy night, awakening the dead silent streets, while the immense "Truth Listener" also appeared beside the building, raising its head to bite at the monster escaping from the Blood Sea.
"Don’t look! Let’s part here!" The old man no longer wanted to stay with Han Fei for a moment longer; he was terrified, both of Divine Spirit’s creation and of Han Fei beside him.
"Alright!" Han Fei just wanted the old man to help attract the monster’s attention. Now that the monster was drawn away, he immediately prepared to flee to the Outer District.
A good plan, but Han Fei and the old man had already penetrated deep into the core area. The oppressive skyscraper stood right before them, making it somewhat late to leave now.
Before Han Fei could finish speaking, he saw a strange person in a red raincoat appear on the street, carrying a wooden box that resembled a Spiritual Altar on his back, holding a crumpled, continuously bleeding photograph in his hand.
"What kind of Ghost and Monster is this?"
"Attention Player Number 0000! You have successfully found Divine Spirit’s twelfth creation—Messenger."
"Messenger (Special Grudge): Wanderers between the skyscraper and the outside world, no one knows what kind of face is hidden under their clothes. They are responsible for conveying the Divine Spirit’s messages."
"Be warned! There are many Messengers, and they are a cohesive whole that can communicate with each other. Perhaps killing one Messenger is easy, but afterward, you will know what fear is."
With so many of them, killing one would attract a swarm, how could he possibly fight this?
Han Fei looked at the Messenger approaching him and caught up with the old man again, "Old man, let’s run away together!"
"Stop following me!"
"Old man, I mean you no harm," Han Fei quickly explained, "there’s a monster in a raincoat behind us. Have you seen it? The photos in their hands seem to have our faces on them. Are we being targeted?"
"Just go!" The old man, soaked by the black rain, had also spotted the Messenger behind him. His entire face turned pale, and he began to run for his life.
Seeing the old man pick up speed, Han Fei hurried after him, "Old man, let’s stick together. Without you, how can I survive? Old man!"
After bursting out of the street, the old man in front suddenly stopped, and Han Fei almost collided with the plant on the old man’s back.
"What’s wrong?" He noticed the old man’s body trembling slightly as he looked towards the crossroads. In just half an hour, Messengers in red and black raincoats emerged from the rooms one after another.
These monsters were holding various limbs and human fragments, much like worker ants from an anthill going out for food, devoid of any emotions, intending to carry back anything edible they found to the Skyscraper.
"We’re doomed..." The old man almost sat down on the ground, his already deformed body shaking with fear, as if he had given up resistence, "There’s no way out, there might be other Divine Spirit creations around; we can’t escape."
The old man’s voice was utterly hopeless. With just a drop of blood left, Han Fei also dared not confront the Messengers carelessly. He looked around; Messengers were everywhere, except for the road leading to the Skyscraper, which was still clear.
"Messengers explore outward from the building, their faces hidden by raincoats, possibly residents of that building. Since they can come out, there should be a way for us to escape once we get inside," reasoned Han Fei, a player who only needed to last three hours and complete another mission to log off. In an unknown map, triggering a task was highly likely, so it wasn’t yet a dead end for him.
"Old man, I have a crazy idea. The most dangerous place could be the safest. I think we should temporarily hide in the Skyscraper and ride out the storm," Han Fei was serious about his plan.
"The most dangerous place is the most dangerous place. Don’t be foolish; no one believes that," the old man verbally rejected the idea, but instinctively turned around with Han Fei. Nobody wanted their soul to scatter, especially with unfulfilled wishes.
"No matter what you think, I absolutely can’t die here." Han Fei sprinted full speed towards the Skyscraper, carrying all his belongings in his item bar. Except for not being able to restore his blood volume, he was in his strongest state.
The towering Skyscraper loomed ahead. Han Fei’s original plan was to infiltrate slowly, understand its layout, and then strategize.
But reality didn’t allow for so much planning; various accidents forced Han Fei to choose the method that would maximize his potential for success.
They first aimed for the building next to the Skyscraper, drawing the Messengers toward it, making them think they had hidden inside that building, and then they dashed towards the Skyscraper!
Only when they got close did they realize the grandeur of the building.
Stretching from earth to heaven, it didn’t look like a single building but more like a small city stacked layer upon layer.
The black rain fell upon the outer walls of the building; Han Fei and the old man had no time for more sentiment as they hurried into the building.
"Boom!"
A thunderclap exploded, and a massive lightning bolt struck the dark clouds above, as if a Divine Spirit had opened an eye.
"Player 0000, please be aware! You have entered an unknown hidden map!"
"This map is extremely dangerous! Initial difficulty level is D, with the possibility of C level areas!"
"Player 0000, please be aware! Leave within one hour!"
Black raindrops fell to the ground as the old man looked at the dark and sinister hallway ahead, his expression extremely poor, "I really fell for your nonsense! No one who enters this building leaves alive!"
"You must have been brainwashed by so-called Divine Spirits. If no one can leave alive, what’s up with those Messengers outside? Can’t they go out as well?" Han Fei did not continue to argue with the old man. He quietly sensed the Blood Sea Monster, the connection between it and him still unbroken: "Could neither the Truth Listener nor the little boy kill that Special Grudge?"
Another reason Han Fei wanted to hide in the Skyscraper was because of the Blood Sea Monster; he certainly didn’t want that monster following him back to Paradise.
"Complaining now is pointless, we must do everything we can to survive."
Han Fei stepped on the old stairs, observing carefully.
The interior of the Skyscraper was complex, with twenty operating elevators, eerily including both the latest models and old-fashioned caged elevators, covering a time span of about fifty years.
The whole building appeared grotesque and absurd, everywhere marked by the passage of time, fifty years seemingly blended into this one structure.
"Those Messengers will probably be back soon; let’s find a place to hide for now."
Han Fei watched the constantly changing numbers on the elevator, and since many elevators were in use, he dared not approach them. Instead, he pulled the old man into the furthest left corridor.
The staircase was painted with peeling red paint, and the distance between the floors was large, with the corridors decorated with talismans and various malicious and horrifying graffiti.
Han Fei reached the second floor and glanced down the corridor; various hallways were haphazardly joined together, resembling a refugee’s cramped apartment with narrow rooms closely packed against each other and various clutter in the passageways, including residential units turned into grocery stores, pastry shops, and small clinics.
"This place gives me a very bad feeling!" the old man said, refusing to hide on the second floor. He and Han Fei continued upwards.
The stairs seemed to get slightly cleaner; the third floor was still a jumble of tenants and shops, but a few rooms at the bend of two corridors had been knocked through to create a private kindergarten.
"With such signs of life, why can’t we see a single person?"
"What signs of life?" the old man snorted in disgust and, still shaking his head, grabbed Han Fei and continued racing up to the third floor.
