My ‘Healing’ Game -
Chapter 577: The Second Day of the Probation Period
Chapter 577: Chapter 577: The Second Day of the Probation Period
The blade, formed from all the virtues in human nature, fell upon Han Fei’s head. A brilliant light streaked across his soul, and the distorted face in the mirror gradually returned to normal.
The Rebirth Saber did not harm Han Fei, and the souls he had redeemed steered clear of his body, unable to strike the thoughts in his mind.
However, this seemed to have terrified Fu Yi; his hideously repulsive face ceased to inflate, and Han Fei was finally able to breathe normally again.
"Just now, I almost got killed by Fu Yi. No matter in what form the Fu Yi in my mind exists, regardless of whether the mission ultimately succeeds, I have to kill him, even if it means drawing out Kuangxiao."
Among the people Han Fei most wanted to kill, Butterfly ranked first, and Fu Yi was fortuitously second.
With his hands propped on the washstand, Han Fei looked at the mirror. He could still faintly see the figure of another person on his body, and as his body grew weaker, the figure became more distinct.
After leaving the bathroom, Han Fei felt a bit better. He told his wife and Fu Sheng to go back to bed, while he lay on the sofa as before.
"My ex-wife must have seen that Fu Sheng is slowly getting better. I guess her intent to kill me might be reduced as well."
"Now, my only remaining task is to quickly figure out the deepest secrets of the Plastic Surgery Hospital."
Covering himself with a blanket, Han Fei found himself unable to sleep, and stayed awake until dawn.
By six in the morning, Han Fei was already out of bed, having prepared breakfast for his family.
When his wife came out of the bedroom, she saw Han Fei busy in the kitchen, a trace of worry flickering across her eyes.
"Why don’t you sleep a bit more?"
"Today is essentially my first day of work; I want to go early to make a good impression on the company leaders." Han Fei always wore a faint smile as if nothing in the world could break him, but seeing this expression only made his wife feel more distressed.
Everyone has their secrets, and his wife had never asked Han Fei who he really was, or why he did such things. But after last night’s events, she began to waver, feeling that some questions, if not asked now, might never be answered.
"You..." His wife was about to say something when Han Fei’s phone suddenly rang, stopping her from continuing.
"Wu Shan? What do you want from me?" Relieved to see the caller ID was Wu Shan, Han Fei let out a long sigh.
"Last night, a prisoner and two other players called me. They said they met you in the Plastic Surgery Hospital, then wanted to get your contact information and home address from me."
"You didn’t give it to them, did you?"
"Of course." Wu Shan trusted Qiangwei’s judgment and decided to follow Han Fei: "You need to be careful, though. The prisoner might act rashly and has a very small heart, but his physical strength is truly frightening, and he possesses a rare Professional Talent. The boss, before he disappeared, had said that the prisoner and Qiangwei are the strongest players among us."
"Rather than that, I’m more curious about how they managed to leave the Plastic Surgery Hospital alive." Han Fei went to the corner of the room, his voice very low.
"It’s said they haven’t turned official yet. They only cleaned for one day yesterday and didn’t notice anything unusual. I suppose after their three-day trial period is over, the hospital will start to show its true face to them." Wu Shan had entered the Plastic Surgery Hospital once to support Qiangwei and Achong, and he knew well the horror it represented.
"You just stay outside and take care of coordinating with everyone. Leave the rest to me." Han Fei found Wu Shan quite reliable; if Wu Shan was willing, he could offer him a ’ticket’ to the Deep World.
If Wu Shan could pass the assessment from the neighbors, then he would qualify to become an external member of Happiness Residental Community. Not only would he be given a house, but the house would also randomly come with family members to help him truly understand the essence of happiness.
Hanging up the phone, Han Fei walked over to his wife: "I need to hurry to work, I’m leaving the house in your hands."
He did not wait for the children to wake up, and after eating his breakfast early, he grabbed his briefcase and raced outside.
Stepping out of the house, Han Fei immediately felt it was colder outside. The lights in the hallway also malfunctioned, flickering on and off as if they were about to go out.
The pale light shone on the cracked plaster, and whenever the light bulb went out, the cracks seemed to multiply, resembling wrinkles on a human face.
Racing downstairs, the densely packed old wires tangled above his head, forming a vast web.
The utility pole plastered with small advertisements leaned slightly, and nearby mud pits were filled with a lot of scrap paper, seemingly where someone had destroyed nearby missing person notices and police rewards before discarding them there.
Stepping on the muddy water on the ground, Han Fei felt like he had walked a long time before leaving the residential community. The same road seemed to have lengthened somehow today.
Looking back, the old residential community seemed even more desolate than the day before, and behind some windows, people were quietly watching Han Fei.
"The world has begun to change."
Han Fei still remembered his experiences in the Mirror God Memory World. The remodification of the world was irreversible; eventually, the whole city would turn into hell, from which no one could escape.
"Think of every day at work as if it’s your last, that’s really motivating,"
It was still early, so Han Fei didn’t take the bus; he decided to walk to work and keenly observe the changes in the city.
The early sun slowly rose, covering all the anomalies in the city with sunlight. They only rotted in the darkness where the sunlight didn’t reach, until one day the sun would not rise again.
At 7:20 a.m., Han Fei arrived at the entrance of the Plastic Surgery Hospital. Staff members like him had to use the side door; the front door was reserved for big clients.
After greeting the security guard, Han Fei was about to walk inside when he suddenly noticed the security guard was playing a game that looked familiar.
He leaned over for a closer look and saw a game character that looked 70-80% like him fainting on the ground, next to a table filled with lavish food. Then a sexy, mature woman wearing high heels walked from the other side of the table, grabbed the game character’s tie, and dragged him to the basement.
"How did he die here again! What went wrong? But then again, who could resist such an invitation from a boss?" the security guard muttered, engrossed in his phone screen.
"Bro, what game are you playing? This character design looks very refined," Han Fei said, holding his briefcase while standing beside him for two minutes, growing increasingly familiar with the game.
"It’s hard to say what kind of game this is exactly, but it’s really addictive. I keep getting killed, but I just want to keep playing," the security guard looked up at Han Fei: "It’s a demo version of a game, kind of an advertisement. Only three female leads are unlocked. The complete version supposedly has ten! What’s more, this game is adapted from real events—cool, right?"
"Can you give me a download link?" Han Fei also took out his phone; after all, who could resist a game adapted from their own life experiences?
"Just go to any gaming forum and you’ll see their ads, all promoted by players themselves," said the security guard, before he opened the demo again and started a new challenge, quickly getting his character knocked over by a female colleague wearing glasses.
"This game character is really unlucky." The security guard sighed, then continued to control his character as it headed for another death.
Han Fei downloaded the game and played it casually on the way, feeling quite conflicted: "There are many Easter Eggs in this game; for me, they’re all memories, some good, some bad. To clear the game, it seems I’d really need to repent sincerely."
At first glance, it appears to be an elegant adult-rated game, but its scope and intention far surpass similar titles, and so does its explicitness.
The game initially deals with the seduction and murder of one person; later, several people’s clues are intertwined, allowing a player to strive to increase a woman’s goodwill. However, doing so will provoke murderous intents from others. The only way to clear it seems singular, sadly, Han Fei himself hasn’t managed to reach that ending yet.
Entering the Plastic Surgery Hospital, Han Fei greeted the receptionist. He was somewhat surprised to find that it was still the same woman as yesterday—she seemed to be always there.
The female receptionist gave Han Fei a professionally perfect smile; her face seemed surgically fixed to show only that one expression.
Upon reaching the second floor, Han Fei pushed open the door of the "Safe House." He had just entered when he heard a strange noise, and then saw a sharp scalpel stop next to his neck.
"Zhang Zhuangzhuang?" Han Fei, dressed in a suit, slowly raised his hands, "What are you doing?"
"Sorry, I was just too nervous." Zhang Zhuangzhuang turned on the light in the Safe House, glanced outside, "It’s finally dawn."
"Have you been staying in the Safe House since last night without going out?" Han Fei closed the door of the Safe House; he actually had many questions to ask him.
"Don’t tell anyone else." Zhang Zhuangzhuang hid the scalpel: "Only after midnight can you see the true face of this hospital. If you really want to know the answer, you can try staying here one night, but I wouldn’t recommend it, because you still have a family to provide for."
"Can’t you just tell me directly?"
"It’s hard to explain, because everyone sees something different."
Before Han Fei could speak again, Zhang Zhuangzhuang had already left, and Han Fei couldn’t stop him.
"Everyone sees something different?"
With doubts, Han Fei changed into his nurse uniform and entered the room where Cao Lingling was staying.
The air was filled with a faint smell of blood. Cao Lingling was still lying in her hospital bed, looking much thinner than yesterday, her arms and cheeks scratched, the bed sheet torn, and leftover food remnants on the floor.
"Why is she alone in the room?"
Han Fei walked to the bedside, bent down to clean up the remnants on the floor, when Cao Lingling, who had been still until then, suddenly opened her eyes and fiercely grabbed Han Fei, screaming loudly.
"The red ghost tore off its face! The white ghost is eating people! The black ghost has been standing by my bed!"
"Let me go! Let me leave!"
Flailing her arms, the restraining straps taut, Cao Lingling shrieked, her neck veins bulging, her eyes full of blood vessels.
"I could let you escape secretly, but I can’t right now," Han Fei gently held down Cao Lingling’s arms, using a secret technique to touch the depths of her soul, trying to peer into her heart.
