Chapter 304: A Red Skirt Hanging in the Bathroom
Chapter 304: Chapter 304: A Red Skirt Hanging in the Bathroom
At midnight, three sets of footsteps echoed in the corridor, but there were only two people.
After Han Fei had finished speaking, both the young security guard and Brother Hua were momentarily stunned; they hadn’t seen anyone else when they were coming downstairs.
Cold sweat slid down his cheeks. Brother Hua forced himself to stay calm, clutching his high-power flashlight tightly: "Get upstairs first, don’t pay attention to anything else."
Brother Hua kept urging the young security guard to go upstairs as if it were only safe there, but to Han Fei, it seemed that the higher they went, the more terrifying the things they might encounter should be.
Could it be that the Death Building is different from the Happiness Residential Community?
Han Fei, "barely hanging on," was leaning on the young security guard’s back, silently observing his surroundings.
The floor of the corridor was tiled, but perhaps due to neglect in cleaning, many tiles bore spotty stains, with occasional long strands of hair.
The stair handrail was made of iron, coated with a layer of bright red paint, looking very vivid.
Even though the steps were evenly spaced, the young security guard kept stumbling mysteriously as he climbed, feeling as though he had suddenly stepped into thin air.
What Han Fei found most eerie was that sound-activated lights were installed in the corridor, but only odd-numbered floors had lights; every even-numbered floor was shrouded in pitch-black shadows.
Therefore, the security guards always carried flashlights with them, no matter where they went; they had grown accustomed to these strange occurrences.
In the blink of an eye, the young security guard had carried Han Fei to the third floor. Seeing that he wanted to keep going up, Han Fei grew somewhat frightened. He dared not pretend to be dead any longer and softly came to: "Which floor are we heading to?"
"To the security room. After dark, that’s the safest place." The young security guard, naive, answered Han Fei’s question without thinking.
"Which floor is the security room on?" Han Fei didn’t believe there were any safe places inside the building; he even began to suspect that the two security guards might be planning to do away with him and then find a place to dispose of the body.
"It’s on the fourth floor, we’re almost there, don’t worry," Brother Hua thought Han Fei was acting out of urgency because his injuries were severe and he was in great pain.
"The fourth floor?" When Han Fei heard which floor they were heading to, the urgency he had been faking became real.
In the Death Building, the more the number four appeared in a room number, the more dangerous it was.
Why, of all places, did these two security guards have to go to the Death Building?
Han Fei finally understood. No wonder security guards kept disappearing; they had really picked a "prime location" for themselves.
Passing the third floor, the young security guard, still with Han Fei on his back, rushed directly into the dark fourth floor without sound-activated lights. When they opened the security door, that third set of footsteps appeared again in the corridor.
Han Fei heard it clearly, the sound had started on the first floor, then rapidly pursued them to the fourth!
Upon hearing the hurried footsteps, Han Fei’s nape broke out in goosebumps, but the young security guard and Brother Hua seemed not to hear it at all, continuing to move gingerly, as if on guard against something.
Han Fei really wanted to urge them, but in the end, he kept his mouth shut wisely.
As soon as the security door to the fourth floor opened, a chilly breeze blew out from the corridor.
There was no light on this level; the corridor was pitch-black, and the flashlight sweep revealed walls painted white, like mourning faces.
"Here we are, this is the security room." The young security guard, carrying Han Fei, stopped at the door of a certain room, while Brother Hua frantically searched for the keys in his pocket.
Han Fei silently looked up and caught a glimpse of the room number for the security room, his heart nearly stopped.
"Room 1044?!"
This room number was the exact same as the one Han Fei had in the Happiness Residential Community; containing two fours, it was among the most dangerous on the lower floors.
"Many things happened in this residential area before, and then I heard they invited some sort of deity. I don’t know how they managed it, but things slowly quieted down." The young security guard said in a low voice, looking at Brother Hua still searching for the keys: "I’ve heard this room is a haunted house. People died here before it was even sold, and to stabilize everyone’s mood and maintain security in the building, the developer decided to set up the security room here. He wanted the righteousness of the security guards to overpower the spirits in the building."
"Righteousness?"
Only Butterfly could do such a thing, completely disregarding the life of a security guard. At least that’s what Han Fei thought.
The footsteps downstairs approached rapidly, and just as the figure appeared at the stairwell on the fourth floor, Brother Hua finally found the key to the door.
The three of them entered the room, and as the door closed, Han Fei heard the footsteps running past outside in the corridor.
Leaning against the door, Brother Hua, who had put on a senior’s air outside, finally let out a sigh of relief.
The young security guard’s forehead was beaded with cold sweat, and Brother Hua’s back was soaked with it, his uniform sticking to his skin. He just didn’t realize it, and feigned composure.
"It’s best to avoid going down to the first floor after dark. There used to be a security guard who went down at midnight and never came back," said Brother Hua as he unnaturally straightened his collar, trying to conceal his trembling hands.
"Bro, I heard that two delivery guys died on the first floor? The murderer called the delivery guys into the building and then killed them straight away, leaving no trace of them alive or dead..." The young security guard, who had placed Han Fei on the couch, was also very afraid.
"You’re new here, you don’t know about these things." Brother Hua, with his back against the door, lowered his voice, "One time, when I was patrolling the first floor, I heard knocking. I figured there were no residents on the first floor, so I sneaked over to take a look, and guess what I saw?"
"What did you see?" the young security guard asked curiously, looking at Brother Hua.
"A delivery guy in a red uniform, with a huge delivery box on his back, dripping with blood, leaning on the door, peering inside while saying—’Your meat has arrived, your meat has arrived...’"
Brother Hua’s impression was so convincing that the temperature in the room seemed to drop.
"Really? Brother Hua, would you dare to go to the first floor alone? That doesn’t sound like your style."
"I’m kidding, I’m no hero," scoffed Brother Hua, crossing his arms to form the gesture of a turtle.
While discussing the strange incidents on the first floor, the barely alive Han Fei was also listening intently.
The monster Brother Hua described bore a striking resemblance to the one on the first floor of the Death Building Game. This convinced Han Fei of one thing—the Death Building Game was a reflection of the Death Building in Deep World!
While eavesdropping, Han Fei also began to survey his surroundings. He hadn’t expected that the first room he would enter in the Death Building would be Room 1044, as if it were all predestined.
The room had a notorious number, containing two fours. It looked normal on the surface, with various rules and regulations on the wall, work schedules, and portraits emphasizing a professional demeanor. It felt quite formal.
In addition to the standard security room, the inside was also equipped with rubber batons, high-powered flashlights, cut-resistant gloves, and stab-proof vests. There was also a table with four walkie-talkies laid out.
There was an array of fancy equipment, but very little of it was actually useful.
"There doesn’t seem to be anything particularly special about the room."
According to the hints in the Death Building Game, after entering the Death Building, one must quickly obtain a certain Death Curse. Otherwise, the Death Building would prepare a Death Curse for them personally.
"Every room in the Death Building should have a Death Curse, but after I entered this room..."
As Han Fei pondered, he suddenly realized Brother Hua and the young security guard had stopped talking. They were staring past him, faces pale as sheets.
"That thing is out again."
"Who the hell hung it there? Didn’t we throw it away earlier?"
The voices of both security guards trembled. Curious, Han Fei also turned to look.
In the bathroom of Room 1044, a blood-red dress was hanging.
The hem dragged on the ground, looking like a person standing in the bathroom.
