My Favorite Game Followed Me! -
Chapter 444
Looking at the distance ahead, Anton could see only the shadowy undulation of the ocean waves. The stars provided little light that allowed him to see in the distance, but everything looked dark, like he had fallen into some dark hell.
He knew that he was being overly dramatic, but Anton couldn’t help it. He knew that it would be a long time before he could find something that would make him happy.
Anton’s father and sister were still sleeping, and he could see that both of them were crying in their sleep. At first, he thought that his father would be somewhat like those Stoic men that he had read about in novels, but he was surprised at the emotional reaction of his father.
To be honest, the reason why Anton allowed himself to grieve unabashedly was that it was a little excusable due to his young age. He didn’t know if he could act the same if he were a little older. He was not judging his father because, from what he had seen while traveling in Rendindura, mercenaries tended to be emotional, and his father, before becoming a full-time farmer, was a mercenary.
He was even glad that his father and his sister were showing their severe grief, since the main reason why he let himself grieve so much was that he had read that the first road to healing was to allow himself to grieve. Of course, he wasn’t sure of anything, but he knew that it would be a long time for the three of them to allow themselves to get close to anybody else.
After several hours, the sun rose. Anders and Anna woke up at the same time. Anton saw his father retrieving food from his storage amulet.
“It’s time to eat,” Anders sternly told his children, showing a face that said he would not accept any reason for them not to eat.
Both Anton and Anna started eating even though it could be seen that the three of them didn’t have any appetite.
After their meal, Anders asked his son something important.
“Are we still being chased by the undead?”
“I don’t know. I’m too afraid to find out using my means since I don’t want to be detected by them. It would be very easy for them to do so since there were a lot of wizards from the undead ships that were as powerful as the Invincible Wizard from the Amelia.”
“What happened with that Invincible Wizard who wanted to kill you? And the other Supreme Wizards?” Anna asked softly.
“I saw a glimpse of them fighting with the undead, but with the number of powerful spellcasters that the undead had, it would have been a matter of time for them to be defeated. I don’t know what would happen to them once they were captured by the undead.”
“I’m glad! She wanted to kill us just because you knew some knowledge that she desired. She deserved to die,” Anton’s father said viciously.
“I’m not sure if she did die, so I recommend that if we settle somewhere, we need to truly lie low.”
“I understand. Once we reach the Gale continent, let’s settle somewhere far from the city, but still able to receive news and go back to becoming farmers. But this time, we would only cultivate plants and animals that would make us self-sufficient. The rest of the time, all three of us will practice magic until we’re powerful enough to take our revenge. We also have enough coins to support our magical growth, since if I’m not mistaken, the only thing we will need to buy are spellbooks.” Anders said, and both of his children understood the implication that their father had decided to become a mage.
Anton welcomed his father’s decision since that meant that his father would try his best to have the power to contend with their enemies. The three of them wore expressions full of resolve. Even Anna and both Anders and Anton knew that they couldn’t stop Anna if she wanted to join in the fight against the undead.
To be honest, the two men would not stop her since this world slapped them again and again with the reality that sooner or later, there would be nothing in the world but war against the undead. In an ideal world, Anders and Anton would have preferred Anna to grow up like some coddled, protected princess, but they both knew they didn’t have the power to allow Anna to become like that. Instead, they were all starting to believe that the only way for them to survive was to become as powerful as they could.
After their conversation, the three of them started modifying the lifeboat. Mostly, it was his father and Anna, and they created something extremely simple since he couldn’t take his focus away from controlling the lifeboat. They did store a lot of materials in their inventory, and soon, there was a cabin with a bunk-style bed where two people could sleep and a small bathroom for privacy. Regarding remaining clean, it wouldn’t be a problem for the three of them because of the cleaning spells that Anton and Anna had learned.
When the small bathroom was done, Anna went inside and emerged looking as she always did with a clean body, hair, and clothes. The clothes that she was wearing looked new, and there wasn’t any sign that she was an escaped refugee, but instead, she looked like she was going to a party.
Anton and Anders did the same, but Anton had to cast the Cleaning Spell on his father’s body. Once they all looked fresh, Anna began teaching his father the basics of becoming a mage. Since his father was wearing the magic defensive belt that Anton had made, which also added mana stats to the wearer, Anton’s father had the stats to become a mage, but through experience, the three of them knew that it would take several hours or even days before Anders entered the threshold of magehood.
Anton also decided to start memorizing standard spells since, as of that moment, his Diablo II system was still upgrading. He could enter his system, but the only thing he could do inside was create enchanted items or hunt gears, but since the majority of his attention was on controlling the lifeboat with his Telekinesis spell, he couldn’t do those things.
After a while, Anton realized that he couldn’t also memorize spells while his attention was on making their small boat fly towards the west, so he just shrugged and concentrated on doing so. He wanted to make sure that the speed of their lifeboat was the fastest that he could do, since he really wanted to escape from the undead’s clutches.
Anton even considered using another spell to push the boat ahead like some sort of motor, but he didn’t want to create some commotion that might attract the undead’s attention. The only thing he could do aside from controlling the ship was watch his sister teach their father how to memorize a cantrip. After Anna taught their father, who was now concentrating on memorizing the cantrip that he chose, Anna also started casting all of her spells to a mana power bank, but Anton knew that soon, he would need to create a power bank that would allow them to release the mana stored in the mana power bank since both his sister and father would need them.
When the sun had set, it was too dark to read, so both his father and his sister stopped memorizing their spells. They could cast a spell that would provide them light, but Anton told them not to, since he still wasn’t sure if the undead were chasing them.
