My Favorite Game Followed Me! -
Chapter 443
The sun rose in the east, and the ocean began its journey of changing its colors as the sun started to rise. The colors ranged from deep blue to brilliant pink and vivid oranges until it settled to its natural color when the day had fully arrived.
It was beautiful, but Anton knew that it would probably be a long time before he could appreciate any sort of beauty in the world.
Anton’s father woke up soon, but this time, Anders didn’t struggle. Anton saw that his father looked around briefly and saw him and Anna, who was still being hugged by Anton’s Valkyrie from the Assassin skill tree.
“Let’s transfer to the lifeboat that I’ve stored in my storage item,” Anders said, and when Anton nodded, his father retrieved the lifeboat.
Anton controlled the lifeboat using his Telekinesis spell. The Cloak of Shadow spell was fundamentally different from the game compared to its effect in real life. In the game, it increased the caster’s defenses and decreased the defenses of the enemies., but in real life, it summoned a shadow that covers the caster in a certain range, effectively hiding them, which admittedly, would best work at night since a patch of shadow in the morning light would be inconspicuous. Those in Anton’s party system wouldn’t be affected by the spell's blind effect, and that’s why his father could still see him and Anna.
He still didn’t want to remove it, even though it was morning, since the dark shadow patch could still be viewed as the ocean’s wave shadows from a distance and could probably still hide them. Even though they were already at least twenty-plus hours away from the location where their ship was destroyed by the undead, Anton didn’t want to gamble their lives on the off chance that they managed to escape.
Once they were settled on the boat, which was surprisingly large, and Anton remembered that it was supposed to be able to carry everyone, he dispelled the Valkyrie and the Shadow Master. Anton’s father retrieved three thick blankets from his storage item and enveloped Anna, Anton, and himself with them.
“Tell me what happened,” Anders quietly asked his son.
“When we’re together in that room, eating breakfast, the undead caught up with us and started attacking with mental attacks, causing you and Anna to fall unconscious. The attacks greatly affected me too, but because of my defenses, I remained partially awake, but the best I could do was half-conscious. The room then started to get destroyed, and I knew then that the undead started attacking the ships with powerful attack spells. The best thing that I can do in my half-unconscious state is to summon my most powerful summons to hug you and Anna to protect your bodies physically. I’m sorry, Father, that I’m not powerful enough. Because of the relentless mental attacks, I can only save you and Anna,” Anton said then he started crying again.
Anton thought that his father would blame him for not attempting to rescue everyone, but Anders hugged him and told him that what happened was not his fault. That the fault lay with the Undead Coalition.
While comforting Anton, his father started crying. At first, it was a quiet cry, but after a few minutes, the sobbing grew louder. Anders turned his face away from his son as if ashamed for Anton to see him grieve.
Anton didn’t forget that his father also lost a lot in the disaster that was the Undead Coalition’s attack. His father lost his lovers, his brother, his friends, and the people that he considered his family. While both men were grieving, Anna woke up.
“Where am I? What happened?”
“I’m sorry, Anna. We’re the only ones who survive the undead’s attacks,” Anton told his sister.
Anna started to cry, which evolved into gut-wrenching sobbing. The three grieved together. Each of them cried with each other, sharing their grief, but they also cried alone, feeling the shattering of their hearts.
Anton’s sister lost her sisters and her friends. She lost her family. The only consolation left for the three of them was that they still had each other, and they knew deep inside that the only thing keeping them from truly falling apart was the thought that they needed to hold on so that the other two could survive.
For several hours, Anton, his father, and his sister kept on crying. Anton knew that more than likely, the three of them would share the inclination of not befriending any more people. Because of the world’s situation, knowing someone and loving someone today meant that there was a huge chance that you would lose that someone tomorrow, and no one’s heart could survive multiple attacks.
Anton stopped crying first since he had been crying for more than a day already. He left his father and his sister alone to grieve because he had the privilege to grieve alone when they were unconscious. He concentrated on controlling the lifeboat that was floating near the ocean. The Cloak of Shadow spell was still covering them because Anton wasn’t sure if they were truly in the clear, but to be honest, he thought that it would be a long time before he stopped looking over his shoulder for any signs of the undead.
Regarding the Invincible Wizard Katrina and the Amelia’s mages, he didn’t know if the Undead Coalition would capture them or destroy them but the only thing Anton knew was, he wouldn’t share the information about allowing regular folks to become a wizard and allowing non-talented mages to rank up extremely fast using his auras anymore. He would even hide the tamed mana that could be released from the mana power bank that he could create.
That meant that if they survived this ordeal, the only thing they could do was to hide somewhere, living humble lives and become as powerful as they could while lying low. Anton knew that the three of them would need to prepare for a life that was ready to run all the time.
The fact was, Anton did not know what kind of situation they would stumble into when they arrived at a place where they could stay.
After several hours, Anton saw his father and Anna drinking water that they retrieved from their storage items.
“Are you hungry?” Anton asked both his father and his sister, and just like him, they indicated that they were not.
When Anna asked for details on what happened, thankfully, it was their father who answered because Anton could not take repeating what happened anymore, and after a while, his sister and his father brought out sleeping bags and, looking at Anton with guilty faces, started sleeping.
Anton knew that grieving people tended to want to sleep. He had that desire, but unfortunately, he could not do so because he needed to control their lifeboat. Soon, both his father and his sister were asleep.
Anton controlled the lifeboat to fly as fast as he could because he was deathly afraid that the undead were just behind them. Even though he had the capability, he didn’t do anything to find out what was behind them because he was so scared to be discovered. The only thing he could do was to keep on flying and hoping that they could escape.
While flying, Anton kept on crying and then trying his best to stop. Whenever he remembered any of his friends’ faces, he would start crying again, and he would angrily wipe the tears from his face and try to distract himself from thinking about anyone. He tried his best to focus on flying the lifeboat.
When night arrived, his father and his sister remained asleep, and Anton looked at them enviously. He wanted to sleep too, not because he was tired. He wanted to rest his mind and his heart from all the grief that he had experienced, but the only thing he could do was soldier on.
