During the dark of the night, the only thing Anton, his father, and his sister could do was eat and talk, and since the three of them still had no appetite, they spoke even though they were not in the mood. Anders forced them to. Their father kept telling them that it was too dangerous for the three of them to remain silent for a long time, since he had seen it during his mercenary days when some of his companions lost someone important in their lives.

“Anton, can you give me some mana water for bathing? I want to wash my body using mana water. Father, you should also adapt bathing again every day using mana water because using a cleaning spell feels unhealthy to me,” Anna said.

Anton was a little worried for his sister because instead of looking sad, she adopted an expressionless face. Now she looked like the typical ice princess, which was one of the character tropes in anime.

“I’ll provide the mana water and I’ll take a bath with it as well, every day,” Anton replied.

“The Amelia was supposed to arrive in the Gale continent in seven months. Do you have any idea how long our travel would be using this lifeboat?” Anders asked his son.

“I don’t know how much faster we are compared to the ship, but we can’t travel for months like this. Once we are far enough away, we need to stop for a day or two on an island somewhere so I can rest, then we continue traveling. I don’t know how long we can go like this, but in my estimation, I can only last a month before needing to stop to rest. Of course, once I get used to this sort of travel, I can rest on the lifeboat and we can go on indefinitely. Please remember, Father, the situation that I’m talking about doesn’t include storms or sea creatures’ attacks.”

“You haven’t rested yet. Do you want to rest?” Anders asked.

“No. I’m still afraid that we will be captured by the undead. I can still go on, and my spells will be able to keep us healthy. After a while, you can use spells to continue studying your spellbooks,” Anton told his father and Anna.

Anders and Anna prepared to go to sleep by brushing their hair with the Coral Comb that also came from Anton’s ocean friends, the blue whales and the pink dolphins. The action of using the Coral Comb would activate its magic, which would allow the user to sleep well, just like the Pearl of the Ocean, which also came from the whales and the dolphins.

Unfortunately for Anton, he still would not be able to sleep because he wanted to keep their lifeboat flying west. He was still very much afraid that the Undead Coalition’s ships were behind them.

During the dead of the night, Anton kept looking ahead while controlling their boat using his Telekinesis spell. He didn’t even have to drink mana potions anymore because his Meditation Aura was keeping his mana full.

Since he had been controlling the lifeboat for almost a day, he was getting used to it and that meant he could already start multitasking. He checked his Diablo II system update, and it stated that it still needed three weeks before the update was done. He hoped that it would be done updating soon because he needed power, and the only thing that could provide him with that power at the speed that he desired was his system.

At that moment, Anton was using two active spells. Telekinesis and Cloak of Shadows. All the other spells running in the background were his auras and defensive spells, which he considered passive spells, since they were running in the background. Of course, he still had all the passive skills that came from his melee Diablo II characters, so to be honest, his body was truly protected. That was also the main reason why the three of them survived the Undead Coalition ships’ attacks.

Anton felt that if he was fully conscious during the attack, he could have saved his friends. He suddenly stopped thinking about it since he felt himself shutting down again, and he wanted to stop grieving or at least stop crying. He was still exhausted and wanted to rest from grieving.

He remembered that the best thing he could do was to rot his brain by watching short videos from the most famous short video platform on Earth, so while he was controlling the lifeboat, he also opened a browser and went to that famous website that rots the brain and started watching. It was truly effective, and Anton felt like he was becoming a zombie while watching the videos while making sure that the speed of their tiny boat didn’t dip.

When the sun rose, Anders and Anna woke up soon after. Just like yesterday, Anton’s father retrieved some food from his storage amulet and forcefully asked Anton and Anna to eat, and they all ate mechanically, not one of them showed any evidence that they were tasting what they were eating. After that, both his father and his sister started the process of practicing their magic.

Anna was memorizing her spells, and once all of her spell slots were full, she would empty them again by casting the spells on the mana power bank. His father, on the other hand, was still trying to memorize his first cantrip.

Anton himself went back to splitting his attention from controlling the lifeboat by watching short videos that were turning his brain to fecal matter. There were even times that he laughed, and if someone was looking at him, they would assume he was some kind of a fool, staring at nothing, sometimes frowning, sometimes laughing. Fortunately for him, the only people in the boat were his father and his sister, who were so focused on their spell practice that they were not aware of what was happening in their surroundings.

The only breaks that the three of them were taking were to drink some water and go to the bathroom when needed. They did take the time to take a bath using mana water, but that was it.

The three of them were also only eating once a day, which was the breakfast that Anders forced everyone to eat.

During the afternoon, Anders suddenly asked everyone to stop what they were doing, except, of course, Anton’s control of the lifeboat.

“What do you need, Father?” Anna asked.

“We need to exercise so during afternoons, for an hour or two, I will teach you to wield the sword. Can you divide your attention from controlling the ship to practice swordsmanship with us?” Anders asked his son.

“Yes. But since my attention will be divided, don’t expect any brilliance from me,” Anton answered.

“Don’t worry. The main purpose of the sword practice was to exercise our bodies. I don’t know if your healing spells could prevent us from getting health issues because of non-movement, but it would be best for us to exercise.”

Anders then retrieved three swords from his storage amulet with appropriate weight for each of them and started asking Anton and Anna to follow his movements, which according to their father, was the very basic.

It was a good thing that the lifeboat was big enough, but they kept ignoring that fact since the reason why the lifeboat was that big was that it was supposed to carry all of the family members, and their emotions were still raw when it came to that subject.

Anton’s movement was noticeably stiff, but then again, he was still controlling the ship. After a couple of hours of sword practice, Anna directly went to their tiny bathroom and took a bath again, and Anders and Anton did the same.

After that, they went back to their previous business of doing the things they were doing before the sword practice.
