My Co-renting Lady Boss -
Chapter 40 - 0040: Release the Person
Chapter 40: Chapter 0040: Release the Person
"This thing still stumps you?"
Lin Canghai chuckled lightly, then pinched the handcuffs and, with a few bangs, broke them apart. Tang Ming laughed as he freed his hands, rubbing them vigorously.
"Ouch, these things were so tight, my wrists are all bruised. Your sister is really heavy-handed. Did she have a grudge against me in a past life or what?"
Tang Ming rubbed the bruises on his hands, grumbling dissatisfiedly.
"If you won’t admit you’re the person I’m looking for, I won’t make it hard for you. Tell me, what trouble have you gotten into?"
Lin Canghai started to ask.
"Nothing much, just a school bully at Tianjiao High School who couldn’t beat me. In the end, he called his older brother, but that guy was no good either. Took him down in a few moves, and out of sheer frustration, he actually went to grab a spray can to use against me. You expect me to stay calm with someone pointing a gun at my head? Of course, I had to fight back first,"
Tang Ming, who had been thirsty for quite a while, took this opportunity to grab a cup and drink water after freeing his hands.
"Heh."
Lin Canghai smiled, having paid close attention to Tang Ming’s demeanor the entire time. The expression on his face while speaking was exactly the same as that of the person he was looking for. If this wasn’t him, that would truly be strange.
"If that guy had been killed by you, you’d still be in trouble. We have laws in our country,"
Lin Canghai said.
"Don’t worry, I know how to pull my punches. I didn’t take their lives, but your sister just decided I was a bad guy and caught me without investigating clearly. She just suspected me, which is really infuriating,"
Tang Ming said indignantly as he drank the water:
"Besides, there’re rules among Martial Artists, aren’t there?"
"That’s just her way. She acts hastily but has no malice. You’ll understand if you interact with her more,"
Lin Canghai chuckled and said while laughing at Tang Ming’s mention of Martial Artist rules: "Martial Artist? You seem to know quite a bit, huh?"
"Forget it, interact more with her? Either she’ll arrest me or she’ll beat me up. I’d better just focus on my studies,"
Tang Ming shook his head.
"Right, you’re young, and reading more books will help lessen that murderous aura of yours," Lin Canghai smiled and continued:
"I never expected that you, who terrify people at the mere mention of your name, would now be studying at a high school. If this was to spread back to North Africa, I bet many people would be puzzled,"
"I’m just a student. Don’t trick me,"
Tang Ming shook his head, not falling for it.
"Not taking the bait doesn’t mean I can’t test you,"
Lin Canghai smiled as he approached Tang Ming, then suddenly made a move toward his neck’s throat area.
This technique and speed were far beyond Ma Gangjian’s capabilities; it was one of Lin Canghai’s known methods for taking a life: simple, quick, and deadly.
Tang Ming had no time to think, parried with one hand, and quickly dodged away to a safe distance.
The two stood several meters apart, Lin Canghai with a smiling face and no hint of killing intent, his eyes fixed on Tang Ming as he said with a chuckle:
"In a critical moment, you still show your true colors, ’Sugar Heart’!"
"Damn, you’re ruthless,"
Tang Ming cursed and then sat on the couch saying:
"I’m on an important mission, and I can’t reveal my identity. Why on earth did you have to force it out of me?"
"If I didn’t force you out, how could I help you?"
Lin Canghai said with a smile, "Did you think leaving the police station with no connections would be easy? With all the stuff you’re involved in, it would take them a while to process you! I help you, and you can head back in no time, isn’t that great?"
"I like the sound of that. However, I’m currently on a mission, and you can’t disclose my identity, including to your sister,"
Tang Ming said with a smile.
"Don’t worry, my sister is single-minded, and I certainly won’t tell her. Besides, my visit this time is to take her home,"
Lin Canghai spoke.
"Then that’s settled. Can I go now?"
Tang Ming asked, "I need to go back early, otherwise someone will be looking for me, and it will be troublesome if I can’t complete the mission."
"Alright, you can go, I’ll handle everything for you."
Lin Canghai said with a smile.
"Thanks."
Tang Ming opened the door and walked out.
After a while, when Chief Zhou went to the bathroom, Lin Xue ran back, pushed the door open, and upon discovering Tang Ming was not in the room, she asked anxiously:
"Brother, where’s Tang Ming?"
"He’s already left."
Lin Canghai said with a smile:
"I’ve checked, he didn’t do anything; it was self-defense. The two injured men went to kill him with guns, so now you should be arresting those two."
"Ah, self-defense again?"
Lin Xue said discontentedly:
"Brother, how could you let Tang Ming go? Even if it was self-defense, he’s still a suspect."
"What suspect! Those with guns are the real suspects, do you think I would wrongly accuse innocent people?"
Lin Canghai said.
"Nonsense!"
Lin Xue said emphatically:
"How do you know the guns belonged to the two injured men and not Tang Ming?"
"Lin Xue, is this how you speak to a superior?"
As soon as Chief Zhou entered, he saw the siblings at loggerheads and immediately chastised Lin Xue. When he didn’t see Lin Xue after exiting the bathroom, he had a bad feeling and hurried back.
"He’s my brother, I can talk to him however I want."
Lin Xue retorted with her arms crossed.
"Precisely because he’s your brother, you should trust his judgment. Moreover, there are two injured men and eyewitnesses, right? Go investigate inside the school; can’t you figure out the truth? It’s not difficult to find out who brought the gun!"
Chief Zhou said.
"Exactly, go ahead and investigate. I guarantee it has nothing to do with Tang Ming. If it turns out to be related to him, I’ll personally help you bring him back."
Lin Canghai spoke up.
"Fine, those are your words."
Lin Xue fumed.
Seeing the sibling rivalry, Chief Zhou realized his mediation was futile and leaving was the best option. He smiled and said:
"Lin Xue, take good care of your brother. I’m going back to the cafeteria to grab something to eat; I only had half of my coffee earlier. I’ll continue when I return..."
With Chief Zhou tactfully leaving, Lin Canghai said:
"Little sister, you should come back with me. What are you doing in Songlan? You can be a police officer in our place as well."
"I’m not going back."
Lin Xue had long wanted independence, and now irritated by her older brother, she was even more determined not to consent.
"You’re really not coming back?"
Knowing his sister’s stubbornness, Lin Canghai thought for a while and then said, "Then take good care of yourself. I’ll come to visit when I can."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Canghai left the room without any fuss, leaving Lin Xue stamping her foot in anger. Her brother had just left like that, without a single word of persuasion!
Leaving the police station, Lin Canghai stood on the road, with an off-road vehicle he had driven parked beside him. He glanced in the direction of Tianjiao High School and a smile flickered across his lips.
"I won’t go back for now. With Tang Ming as a rare sparring partner, I need to properly assess his strength. To break through the Six-star bottleneck, it seems I must find a formidable opponent!"
