Chapter 89 - 89 87 What are you looking at Go eat your meal

Chapter 89: Chapter 87: What are you looking at? Go eat your meal. Chapter 89: Chapter 87: What are you looking at? Go eat your meal. Lu Jingyan felt as if her face had been electrified, a tingling sensation spreading across her skin.

It was not until Sheng Xian withdrew his hand nonchalantly and straightened up that she snapped out of her daze.

She moved her lips and subconsciously raised her hand to touch the spot he had just brushed. It still faintly bore the coolness of his fingertips. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly withdrew her hand.

Having caught this small gesture, Sheng Xian turned his head away, looking out the window.

The atmosphere in the room grew somewhat tense.

After what seemed like an eternity, Sheng Xian cleared his throat, as if nothing had happened, and asked in a slightly indifferent tone, “Are you still going home?”

Although she hadn’t let him inquire about what exactly had happened, he could guess it was related to Yang Xu and her family.

“Huh?” Still caught in the moment of Sheng Xian’s touch, Lu Jingyan responded absently.

So it wasn’t that Professor Sheng wanted her to kiss him, but there was just something on her face?

She must have watched too many Korean dramas, to think that Professor Sheng’s gesture was an invitation to kiss him.

It was a massive social blunder.

Distraught, Lu Jingyan plunged her head toward the table.

Just before her forehead could hit the marble surface, Sheng Xian reached out and grabbed her by the collar, lifting her head.

Lu Jingyan came to her senses, glanced at Sheng Xian, and felt even more embarrassed realizing what she had just done.

She hung her head, staring blankly at the reflection of her own outline on the marble table, remaining silent.

Sheng Xian didn’t make it too hard for her. He hung his eyelids, observing the student who wished she could bury her face in the table for a while, then asked again, “Are you leaving tonight?”

Lu Jingyan opened her mouth.

Truthfully, she found that Sheng Xian could touch her heart quite unintentionally.

For instance, right now, she was also contemplating where she would go after leaving his place.

Although it was unlikely that Lu Hongcheng and Lu Zhou would be at the villa she currently lived in, to her, it wasn’t any different from their house.

At least for tonight, she didn’t want to go back there.

Song Xian’s place was rented and she had other roommates, so it wasn’t convenient for Lu Jingyan to disturb them.

In her monotonous and almost dreary circle of friends, the only person left she could turn to was Chen Kai, but Chen Kai was a man.

So once she left here, the only place she could go was a hotel.

Alone, she would book the best room, stare at the night view, and zone out for the night.

The same way she had before, spending a night or several nights, then pretending as if nothing had happened, she would go home.

Again and again, endlessly.

She had thought about escaping the Lu Family before. She had run away from home during a particularly tough time, floated around for about half a month, but she came back.

No matter what Lu Hongcheng thought of her, no matter how Lu Zhou often used her, with them, she appeared to have a family.

At least she could comfort herself that she, Lu Jingyan, was not alone in this world.

Seeing the student blankly staring at him without a response for a long time, Sheng Xian hung his eyelids and looked at her, “Are you leaving?”

Lu Jingyan withdrew her gaze, hiding the indescribable emotion in her chest, and spoke slowly, “Can I stay?”

Sheng Xian was surprisingly agreeable today, “Mhm, you can.”

Having said this, he glanced at the time. It was not early, but also not too late, “Go take a shower and get some sleep.”

Lu Jingyan murmured a response, stood up, and followed Sheng Xian into the master bedroom.

Like the last time, he took out a cotton white T-shirt for her.

Lu Jingyan didn’t accept it, “Can you give me a black one instead?”

Sheng Xian paused, realizing what she meant.

He found that when the student was serious, her words were sometimes more enticing than when she wasn’t proper.

“It’s fine, if it gets dirty, it gets dirty.”

“Oh.”

Since Professor Sheng had said so, Lu Jingyan didn’t make a fuss and took the white T-shirt into the bathroom.

After her bath, Sheng Xian had already changed her sheets and quilt cover and had left.

Having experienced so much during the evening, Lu Jingyan was quite tired. She flipped back the quilt and crawled in, just about to turn off the light when the door to the main bedroom was pushed open.

Sheng Xian walked in and tossed something on the bed.

Lu Jingyan sat up and found the object—it was a hot water bottle.

Pink.

Lu Jingyan looked up at Sheng Xian.

Sheng Xian turned off the light for her, pulled the curtains shut, and seeing that her gaze followed him around the room, he paused before leaving the room, “If you’re feeling upset, try to sleep early.”

“The more you feel like this, the more you need to treat yourself well.”

The door closed.

Only Lu Jingyan was left in the bedroom.

She zoned out for a while before snuggling under the covers with the hot water bottle.

She didn’t want to face her emotions at the moment, but she had to admit, she was soothed by the gesture.

Soothed by a man who seemed rather cold, wasn’t easy to approach, and who was especially clueless about romance.

Lu Jingyan buried her head in the quilt, thinking if anyone had ever been nice to her, even just a little bit nice, she wouldn’t be so emotionally disturbed by such a small gesture.

A dreamless night.

When Lu Jingyan opened her eyes, it was already noon the next day.

Feeling groggy, she turned over irritably and felt something fall onto the bed.

It was still warm, fuzzy to the touch.

Lu Jingyan paused, reaching out to pull it from under the quilt.

She stared at the pink hot water bottle for several seconds, slowly coming to realize what had happened.

Her grogginess miraculously dissipated, and her mood improved substantially. She played with the hot water bottle for a while, then hearing the doorbell ring, she finally got out of bed and went into the bathroom.

After finishing her ablutions, Sheng Xian was just arranging the freshly delivered takeout on the table. Hearing her, he looked up, “Come and eat.”

As they sat down facing each other, Lu Jingyan picked up her chopsticks, about to ask Sheng Xian how well he had slept last night, when the doorbell rang again.

Sheng Xian put down his chopsticks to answer it, but stopped mid-action when he saw the person in the monitor.

Seeing him standing at the door, not moving, Lu Jingyan called out, “Who is it?”

Sheng Xian snapped back to reality, “You eat first, I need to step out.”

Having said that, Sheng Xian walked toward the bedroom.

Lu Jingyan, filling with curiosity, put down her chopsticks and went over to the monitor.

Below stood a woman, apparently not very young, with a not very friendly expression on her face.

Sheng Xian put on a coat and quickly came out of the bedroom.

Finding her glued to the door-monitor, utterly engrossed, he couldn’t resist tapping her on the head, “Stop looking, go eat your food.”

Lu Jingyan pouted, dragging her feet back to the dining table.

Feeling a bit uneasy, she picked up her chopsticks but couldn’t help calling out to Sheng Xian, “Brother.”

Sheng Xian finished putting on his shoes, looked up at Lu Jingyan, and seeing the worry written in her eyes, he paused his action of closing the door. After a moment, he said, “I’ll be back soon.”

Lu Jingyan truly wasn’t trying to pry into Sheng Xian’s privacy, she was just quite curious about who had come looking for him.

The doorbell stopped and then rang again, unable to contain herself, she rushed back to the monitor.

The woman downstairs was visibly impatient, constantly hammering the call bell. Soon, Sheng Xian appeared on the monitor and as soon as the woman saw him, she started talking as if they were arguing.

Because the intercom wasn’t connected, Lu Jingyan couldn’t hear what the woman said.

Sheng Xian’s expression remained calm as he faced the woman’s agitation, his lips moved slightly, then the woman followed him into the elevator.
