Ms.CEO Falls in Love with Aloof Professor -
Chapter 88 - 88 86 Isnt This Bad
Chapter 88: Chapter 86: Isn’t This Bad? Chapter 88: Chapter 86: Isn’t This Bad? She looked at Sheng Xian, not knowing what had come over her, and blurted out, “Marry me.”
These three words had truly slipped out without much thought from Lu Jingyan.
But as soon as she spoke the first word, she realized it.
She could have taken back that sentence at that time and she even thought of something else to say in her mind, but she still spat out those words completely.
It was not until later that Lu Jingyan inadvertently recalled this moment and understood why she had done it.
It was a test.
It was playing a game of Truth or Dare, testing Sheng Xian.
At that time, she did not realize that she was testing, nor did she understand why she wanted to test.
…
Sheng Xian probably did not expect her to say such a thing and visibly froze.
Lu Jingyan watched Sheng Xian, her eyes not blinking, as if afraid to miss any expression on his face.
The house was silent, with Sheng Xian motionlessly sitting in the chair, showing no reaction whatsoever.
His overly calm demeanor gradually made Lu Jingyan feel uneasy.
She had intended to persist a little longer, at least until Sheng Xian showed some reaction, but she couldn’t withstand the anxiety welling up inside her and backed down halfway.
In this situation, she always felt as if she had revealed a secret.
Even though she didn’t know what secret she could have revealed.
Lu Jingyan slowly blinked her eyes and, with a grin, waved the deck of cards in front of Sheng Xian, “Brother, did I scare you silly?”
Sheng Xian’s eyelashes flickered, and after looking at her for two seconds, he said, “No.”
“I thought you were scared because you didn’t respond for so long. It was just a joke, don’t take it seriously,” said Lu Jingyan as she tossed the cards on the table, resting one hand on her chin and tapping the table with the other, “Let me think, what should I dare you to do?”
After pondering for a while, Lu Jingyan looked up, “Brother, cook me a bowl of ramen.”
“The same kind I had last time I was at your house.”
Sheng Xian made no move.
Lu Jingyan blinked, “What? Is this dare too difficult?”
“No.”
Sheng Xian responded quite quickly, but after he finished speaking, he leaned back in the chair for a good while before getting up and going into the kitchen.
Sheng Xian boiled a pot of water and, just as it was about to boil, he took the ramen out of the refrigerator.
When the water boiled, he opened the pot lid, placed the noodles inside, and stirred them with chopsticks.
Soon, steam billowed from the pot; he turned down the heat, added some cold water, and watched the pot slowly come to a boil again, zoning out for a moment.
Marry me.
He heard these three words and his first reaction was that his heart had suddenly skipped a beat—so much so that he completely forgot they were playing a game in that instant.
It was not until she spoke again asking if he was scared that his mind gradually became clearer.
The girl had always been bold with her words.
She had said things even more outrageous than “marry me.”
Yet, why had he taken this particular sentence seriously?
It was bad enough to take it seriously, but then to find out that the girl was just joking, he even felt somewhat annoyed.
What did he have to be annoyed about? There was a time when the girl saw a wound on his hand, touched it, and he reacted so strongly, dodging it as if avoiding something dirty.
He couldn’t openly accept the girl’s affection, so wasn’t it better that she didn’t feel anything for him?
What right did he have to expect so much from her?
Sheng Xian sighed, turned off the heat, and served the cooked noodles into a bowl, setting it in front of Lu Jingyan.
Lu Jingyan hadn’t actually eaten much, but he had drunk all the soup broth cleanly.
Sheng Xian saw her put down the chopsticks, “Not eating anymore?”
“Mm.”
Sheng Xian didn’t say anything, extended his hand to pick up the bowl and walked towards the kitchen.
Professor Sheng had cooked the noodles, and now he was washing the dishes for her too. Lu Jingyan felt a bit embarrassed and got up to follow him, “Err, should I wash them?”
Sheng Xian glanced at her hands, as delicate as a baby’s skin, “Do you know how?”
Miss Lu had never washed dishes before, but she had seen the female protagonist wash dishes on TV and thought it was not a hard task, “I… can learn.”
Sheng Xian handed Lu Jingyan a glass of milk, “I might as well just smash the bowl.”
Lu Jingyan: “…”
Three seconds later, Lu Jingyan silently walked out of the kitchen, holding the box of milk.
Sheng Xian put the washed dishes in the cupboard, washed his hands in passing, dried them with a couple of paper towels, tossed them into the trash, and then walked out of the kitchen.
The elementary schooler, holding that box of milk, lay on the dining table, drinking seriously through the straw.
She looked very well-behaved.
Sheng Xian stopped at the kitchen doorway, observing her for a while before approaching, “Still want to play?”
Lu Jingyan lifted her head and made an ‘ah’ sound as she realized he was referring to ‘Truth or Dare.’
Lu Jingyan shook her head, releasing the straw, “Not anymore.”
As she spoke, her face brushed against the straw and got a bit of milk on it.
Sheng Xian remained silent, standing beside her, lowering his head to tidy up the scattered playing cards across the table into the box.
He snapped the box closed just as Lu Jingyan finished drinking the milk and naturally pushed the empty box towards him.
He picked it up and threw it in the trash, then glanced at her and noticed the milk still on her face.
Sheng Xian pointed to the spot on his own face, “Here.”
Lu Jingyan blinked, “What?”
Sheng Xian pointed again.
Lu Jingyan tilted her head, pondered for two seconds, then understood his intent, “This isn’t great, right?”
Sheng Xian looked at Lu Jingyan with a somewhat strange expression.
Lu Jingyan, looking distressed, said, “Although you’ve helped me a lot tonight, both applying medicine and cooking ramen for me, directly asking me to kiss you is something I just can’t do at the moment…”
Sheng Xian: “…”
Lu Jingyan thought for a moment and felt that Professor Sheng had indeed been really good to her and that she should probably give him something sweet in return.
Lu Jingyan twirled her eyes, held up her phone, took a photo of Sheng Xian, then enlarged his photo and kissed the screen unhesitatingly at the exact spot he had indicated on his own face, “Is this okay?”
Sheng Xian: “…”
Lu Jingyan observed Sheng Xian’s expression for two seconds.
Is he unsatisfied?
“Or… should I kiss your photo again?”
Watching the elementary schooler about to kiss her phone again, Sheng Xian, feeling a slight headache, closed his eyes momentarily and snatched the phone from her before her lips landed on it.
Lu Jingyan lifted her head, “You prefer it direct, huh?”
“…”
“Then give me a minute to get ready…”
“…”
Sheng Xian slowly exhaled, and before the girl could speak again, he leaned over, raised his hand, hesitated just before his fingers touched her face, then gently brushed away the drop of milk with the tip of his finger.
