Chapter 58: A Single Chatroom
Chapter 58: A Single Chatroom
Deep in her mind, she wondered if she should be offended that Li YingYi had offered her money in exchange for leaving Li ZiChen. Yet why is it the thing that haunted her head more was questions about the scar and the snake tattoo that was on Li ZiChen’s hands. It was as if she was supposed to dwell on it though she was certain she had never been involved with a man like Li ZiChen before.
If it wasn’t her, then could it be really someone else?
AiLin pushed herself from the chair of the cafe. She grabbed the shopping bags to her shoulders which stirred Li YingYi’s attention at once. He also stood up, having gathered himself, he looked more poised if only he shut his mouth and kept a stern face like Li ZiChen. Though he wouldn’t be comparable to the immense air and pressure that Li ZiChen could exude just by standing, he should be able to at least have a strong hold in himself.
"Are you offended?" Li YingYi asked at once, finally realizing the mistakes in his words, "I’m sorry! I’m really sorry if I sounded rude. I just wanted to make sure that my brother is..."
"I’m not offended but I also have to tell you that I am the real Jiang AiLin. I hope you can keep this a secret as I know both you and Li ZiChen is extremely intelligent to understand that this is an important matter that others shouldn’t know about," she then found her words softening when she saw the confusion on Li YingYi’s face. "I will help your brother so he wouldn’t see someone else in my... shadow," she regretted the words that came out from her mouth, "But you have to also understand that we have our own relationship and that he and I have came to a deal."
She thought at first that Li YingYi will doubt her but instead he looked at her back with a more stern mien, "I can’t know the content of the deal?"
"I’m sure you can but you’d better ask your brother about it," AiLin responded when suddenly Li YingYi reached out his hand to her shopping back. "What?" She asked him, raising her eyebrow.
"I’ll help you," he said offering his hand.
AiLin broke into a smile and frowned. "You were angry at me, and then you cried, now you’re reaching out your hand to help me? You are really weird."
"I’m not weird!" Li YingYi huffed, "It’s just when my brother’s name comes up I sometimes lose reasons. I dearly take care of him. He was always my second father figure after our father so I wanted to protect him like he did to me. But if it is as you said that you two have a deal and that you’d help me to snap my brother out of his daydream then I suppose it would be rude to treat you like I did before."
"You’re rather mature," she was impressed as she spoke.
"I am mature!"
But you cried... AiLin didn’t even have to say it out loud as the sentence wrote itself on her face which made Li YingYi’s face flushed red.
"Anyway I’m leaving now," AiLin said, waving her hand at the young man as she stepped outside the cafe while Li YingYi chased after her. Only after a while of walking, AiLin felt something behind her and snapped her eyes. She narrowed her gaze at the crowd of people though she hadn’t heard it, she felt for certain how someone had taken a picture of her.
She narrowed her eyes, wondering if it was one of the Jiangs or one of the other people she needed to take care of.
Suddenly Li YingYi rushed back to her, "I’ll show you to outside the shopping mall!"
AiLin refused at first but couldn’t handle the younger man’s excited energy and was eventually shown the way out by his unneeded help.
Meanwhile, the person who had taken her picture ran away from her back. The person had hide behind the pillars upon noticing that AiLin had snapped her head at him, as if feeling with her sixth sense of his presence. He looked carefully again and made sure that she was completely gone from sight. After taking out a heavy sigh of relief, the man then sent the picture he had taken of AiLin earlier and proceeded to send it toward a group.
The group immediately opened the picture in unison. Each one of them pinging the sender of the picture.
[What’s this? A new target of yours Pei Leng?]
[She’s gorgeous but that’s all. What? I thought you wouldn’t go just for any hole, Pei Leng. You’re not Gang Sha, there’s no reason for you to be as horny as him to go after each woman you pass by.]
Pei Leng, the man who had taken the picture clicked his tongue. He furiously tapped his screen and retorted back.
[Guys! Don’t you see that face? Doesn’t it ring a bell who that is?] Pei Leng sent the message only to be responded with his friends questions marks.
[???]
[? Hey if I’d have a penny for every woman I’ve slept with, I’d become a billionaire dumbass]
Suddenly however someone sent a message that was quicker than the rest.
[It’s the fox.]
Pei Leng’s heart fell to his stomach upon hearing the nickname of the woman who they had been with during high school. A familiar name. A familiar nickname. A nickname that still haunted them to till this day.
[It’s Jiang AiLin.]
The same man who had recognized AiLin in a first glance, responded to his earlier comment which garnered almost an instant silence in the chat room. Even though they weren’t beside each other, the tension was taut as a bowstring that was about to launch a few arrows.
[Where did you get that picture from PeiLeng?] finally someone else had asked.
[I don’t know! I just found her while I was walking in a shopping mall.. she... she looks so similar to that fox, doesn’t she?!]
[but she’s dead] answered the one who had recognize AiLin.
[are you sure about that Yuan Hu?] the other person messaged the man.
[I’m sure. Mengyao was the one who told me the news of her death. She must be someone else who looks similar to Jiang AiLin] responded Yuan Hu with a relaxed tone.
[No guys! I heard her speak... she is really the AiLin we know! What if she.. comes for revenge?!] Pei Leng tapped his phone with a sense of fear as he felt his back was wet with sweat.
Yuan Hu who had turned out to be the leader of the chat room suddenly typed, leaving everyone silent as the true leader had always been him. Every choices the group made since high school had always been decided by Yuan Hu.
This time too, he responded. [I’ll find out soon if she is the real AiLin we know or not. For now keep your calm. Don’t ever mention that incident again Pei Leng. Unless you want to receive punishment.]
Pei Leng had only received threat through text yet he felt a blade was around his neck, ready to slit his throat with just the one comment made by Yuan Hu. Eventually Pei Leng turned silent but he was sure that woman was AiLin.
Although in the past AiLin was less vibrant and more defeated like a walking corpse which was the reason why everyone was so excited to bully her to the point that no one but a single person would all bully her. Whether boys or girls, they’d do everything they could to make her life a nightmare or just become a bystander.
However it was worse for Pei Leng and his group. After all those six years ago... they had done things worse than bullying to AiLin...
"Damn it! If anyone knows about it—" Pei Leng ransacked his hair, fear creeping on his face as he didn’t want anyone to find out the things he had done through high school as his parents had tried their best to hide the fact.
