Chapter 59: Curious Approach

By the time that AiLin had returned to Li ZiChen’s apartment, she had found out that the security that was far too strict was actually quite comforting. Perhaps because it reminded her of the prison, as in having no way to escape easily, and the thought of her being too comfortable in places like prison was rather uncanny which made her to feel unpleasant for a little.

When she had about to enter the elevator, her eyes widened when she found Li ZiChen who was also inside the elevator. He lifted his chin, looking as surprised as her. Wordlessly, she entered the elevator, feeling a sense of awkwardness as she was holding to many shopping bags in her shoulders, all which she had bought by his card. At this point, she had made him broke. Though not really considering his finance wouldn’t even be hurt the slightest if she were to go ahead and buy herself a couple of horses from Arab.

When she was pondering about it, she felt a touch on her hand that made her flinch. Being touched by people suddenly still made her uncomfortable but the touch was too quick for her to even count it as a touch. She then saw Li ZiChen who had grabbed the shopping bag from her hand, doing so effortlessly.

"Did you have fun?" He asked, he held a smile on his lips as if seeing her was what made him happy despite earlier his lips were set into a thin line as if he was about to tick and explode.

AiLin stared at him. Under the stark light of the elevator, she realized not only his height and how his hand could easily touch the ceiling of the elevator if he raised his arm. He was dressed neatly, not strict to the point that it was unbearable. She also consider him having quite a great style on himself. With a blue necktie that had a diamond pattern, a cream colored shirt, and a light gray blaze which was covered with a thicker black coat that reached down to his ankle.

"Hm?" He asked her, gathering her attention.

"It was fun," she found herself responding in an unsure tone. What was fun? Shopping? Living? She didn’t want to get into the question too deep in her head. She also considered telling him that she had met his younger brother but she didn’t want to become a tattle tale as Li YingYi seemed to only be a caring younger brother.

Her eyes then shifted at his left hand. She noticed that the same hand that was now carrying her shopping bag had a black tattoo of the snake. The snake reached his ring finger, its head circling around his finger like a ring.

"A serpentine," said Li ZiChen as he reached out his hand for her to see. She was curious and he knew it.

She blinked, realizing that she was studying him too closely and for someone so sensitive to gazes like Li ZiChen, it must have been too easy to guess the thoughts that crossed her mind.

"When did you got it tattooed?" She asked at the same moment when the elevator stopped at their floor. Li ZiChen stepped out at first, giving them a small break to their question. As he walked toward the door and opened the door with the card, he placed the shopping bag at the entrance and let her in. He smiled as he held the door for her.

"You’re asking when I got it tattooed? Not why?" Li ZiChen then let her inside while she frowned, wondering if he had somehow sniffed that she had heard from someone else about his tattoo as his tone sounded too knowing.

"I was just curious, it looks old," she then took the shopping bag toward the living room while he refused to let her do so and instead brought it for her. When she sat down the couch, she watched him walking toward the counter and took a couple of glass filled with water and sat beside her as he accepted her question.

"I suppose it was," Li ZiChen raised his left hand as if allowing it so she could study it even further, "I got it drawn on me about six years ago."

AiLin took his hand as he offered and at this, Li ZiChen raised his eyebrows. He questioned her curiosity but didn’t want to burst the bubble as this was the very first time AiLin had touched him even if it was out of curiosity.

She then narrowed her gaze down the tattoo, questioning where the wounds were. As Li YingYi had told her, Li ZiChen added the tattoo on his arm to hide scars. But so far now, she couldn’t find a single scar on his palms. When she was about to reach for his sleeve and pulled it down, Li ZiChen stopped her finger.

"Are you that impressed by the tattoo?" He smiled, but his eyes were questioning her action which made her realize that she had reached her line. She tucked away the thoughts of questioning him even further and decided to stop for today as she knew this was as far as she could go today.

Releasing his hand, she cleared her throat, "I was only wondering why you would ever put tattoo on your skin. You seem to be the type who loves cleanliness. Or for worse..."

"For worse?" He asked, urging her words.

"Like you would be a control freak," she answered and then averted her eyes, "Not in a bad way of course. I have seen many perfectionist and I would also consider myself to be but when I first entered this apartment, I realized that you keep every furnitures here in the right and supposed way so that it would look pleasing to the eye. You also seem to like gathering information on someone a lot."

She heard him laugh and turned to see his pale pink lips tugging into a smirk, "Is that your way of saying that I was sneaking around your informations too much?"

"Well," AiLin turned her face back at him, "I was just saying that you seem to like knowing a lot about one person." Such as searching through her birth parents, knowing everything about her friendship with Canary, and how he seemed to simply enjoy gouging other’s mind and action, reading them in such fascination.

"That’s true," Li ZiChen leaned on the couch and placed his arm behind her shoulder. He didn’t touch her, he didn’t test the boundaries for far too far. Instead he turned his face slightly to face her, "I think information is the most important piece of winning battles. I do consider myself a control freak but that is because I take care of the things I love. I don’t like to let them too far away from my eyes which made me worried that someone else would either destroy it or take them from my hands. I’m quite possessive about my own treasures."

Her eyes narrowed, "Is that why you chose this apartment?"

"Hm?" Li ZiChen questioned her with a puzzled look.

"I was thinking how after a while of staying here, I realized that your apartment felt slightly like a prison. Their security is too tight," she commented to which surprised her as she saw how there was finally a visible surprise on Li ZiChen’s face like a child who had been caught red handed for destroying his mother’s favorite teacups.

Li ZiChen leaned slightly forward, his tone dropped and his eyes became serious as he stared into her gaze, "I suppose it is. But also because the stronger the security in this apartment is, the harder for someone to escape."
