Chapter 41: You Jinxed It

Gasped ran out of AiLin’s mouth. Li ZiChen was always a smart one when it comes to gathering her reaction from her. She frowned, obviously offended as how could the one to have placed the boundary would be the one to break it? She’s not that foolish and she doubted she would even kindle an emotion anything more than friendship to Li ZiChen.

After her revenge... she already had something she planned to do.

"Won’t happen."

"If it happens?" He taunted her and he seemed happy doing so. The corners of his lips raising and he seemed to be waiting for her to fall into his trap which sadly she did.

"I’ll reimburse you for the mistake," AiLin shrugged her shoulders confidently. "Maybe many women would like you as you are the gran bachelor of all but not me. As I have told you earlier I do not have the mood or time for it."

"Okay, alright," sang Li ZiChen with his hands both raised upward. "I’m taking your words for it and I’ll see for the reimbursement."

Wait as long as you want, thought AiLin as she shoved more rice into her mouth until both her cheeks were as full as a hamster. She didn’t look up and could hear Li ZiChen laughing for how hurried she was at her eating but she didn’t care. It was late night and late night is time when many kind of evils and devils unleash from one’s own heart which drove them to fall into a mistake out of the heat of passion.

Once she was done, she gulped a mouthful of water and jumped on her feet, "I think it’s time for me to go now."

"It’s too late, you can stay here if you’d like," Li ZiChen offered but he saw how quickly she had gathered her phone inside her bag and seemed knowing that AiLin would do anything to leave the place even if it means fighting with a bear.

He supposed he couldn’t possibly push her out of her comfort zone any longer. Thus, he stood up and loosened his necktie which made her to frown.

AiLin raised her eyebrows, "What are you doing?"

"Bringing you home. There is no taxi allowed to enter my apartment," responded Li ZiChen.

AiLin would have spewed ’bullshit’ right in front of his face but now that she thinks about the apartment, she didn’t think his words were merely words. She didn’t mentioned it earlier but this building that Li ZiChen lived in had numerous amount of security. There were many places to enter the house that were slammed with one house code or keycard needed to operate the elevator, doors, and even the gate outside the building.

She wondered if the people living in the apartment won’t even be needing a taxi considering of how successful and wealthy they are, enough to provide cars to every newborn baby that they have.

"Come on," Li ZiChen reached out his hand.

She stared at it, narrowed her eyes, looked back into his mischievous gaze and then walked over him to the door of the apartment where it was made up of polished wood. She also noticed that everything in this house smelled like cotton, perhaps a scent that latched on Li ZiChen’s skin and marinate for long. As they passed by the living room and made their way to the entrance from earlier, AiLin saw a painting spread on the entrance, almost becoming like a gallery for this one certain painter who had only painted the same woman over and over again.

Long black hair, a soft gentle smile, and a face that rather looked similar to Li ZiChen.

She didn’t need to ask to know that this woman is Li ZiChen’s mother, a famous singer that she also recalled to have seen in the TVs numerous times though she wasn’t so familiar with her.

"What are you staring at?" Li ZiChen inquired and she turned her head to him at once.

"No, nothing." There was an urge to ask about his mother, to know more about this family side of him. But she realized doing so would only cause her bond with him to deepened and she didn’t want that to happen. As she passed by him, Li ZiChen’s eyes darkened as he noticed her curiosity which she killed quickly in order for them not to be too close then her necessary "cold business like" boundary.

"You could have stayed here," Li ZiChen said as he pressed the key to the keycard, making the first door to the elevator open. "My house has a great bed and you’d be safe there."

"I don’t feel comfortable living with someone," she answered rather callously and somehow she regretted her own tone as now she felt too apprehensive to look into Li ZiChen’s eyes. "Either way, a man and a woman shouldn’t be living under one roof especially when someone over here is a Mister worldwide who has his business empire riding on his shoulders. You don’t want to make a misunderstanding to happen."

"That I brought a woman home?" Li ZiChen curled his lips, "It is normal for a business men to bring a woman back to his house, you know. Just not me. My parents are a rather close loving couple who always made those around them jealous by how loving they are to one another." He again saw her eyes that filled with a curiosity though she once again dampened her curiosity in a second. It made him want to push the boundary even more and he did. "What misunderstanding do I fear being seen with you in my own house? If you have forgotten then let me remind you: I have long announced that you are my lover in the birthday party of your sister."

AiLin frowned as she rubbed her shoulders, feeling goosebump that makes her skin crawl, "Don’t call her my sister. Regardless I find myself inconvenienced to stay in your house. Even if the night is too late, I’d rather go back to my own place."

"Hm," he hummed with a thoughtful nod and she could see from the reflection of the elevator they had just stepped in, his eyes that were filled with a deep thought. "What if that Daily rented apartment of yours is suddenly faulty?"

"Faulty? You mean burnt down??" AiLin shrugged as she thought it was impossible, "Then I’d might stay in your house then."

She would soon regret those words as the moment she entered Li ZiChen’s car and was drove back to her apartment, she had indeed found her apartment being burnt down. Thankfully everyone surprised. But unfortunately the fire had reached to burn the roof of her room which caused for her to find a quick place to stay on. She had begged for the landlord to reconsider it as she would even stay in that house with its ceiling removed but the landlord couldn’t have it happen as the apartment need to be renovated as soon as possible.

By the time she had gathered her belongings and stepped out of her newly rented apartment, she saw Li ZiChen who was leaning outside his car with a smile as if he was enjoying what he sees. Dressed in his white shirt and gray trousers, his black hair dusting on his forehead, everything seemed cheerful on him, including his sparkly eyes and gleaming white teeth.

"You jinxed it," he said and he pulled open the door, "Let’s go to my home then."
