Chapter 42: A Secret Room

AiLin was still speechless by the view of her apartment being scorched black that she kept staring on Li ZiChen’s face as he drove them away from her apartment with her belongings. He seemed to be the happiest mood. After all, how could her apartment just burn down for no reason?! She felt somehow frustrated by how the world was revolving around Li ZiChen’s wish.

She couldn’t help but wonder, "Did you burn it down?"

"The apartment?" Li ZiChen scoffed with a grin, "I’m not stupid enough to pull such a trick that could have endangered other people’s life," he then shrugged his shoulders, "Though I have been foretold by the FengShui and fortune tellers that I have such a good luck that will surprise anyone who meet me."

"I doubt anyone would have SUCH a good luck," AiLin was still suspicious by Li ZiChen. She wondered if he could have really burnt down her apartment to make her stay in his house.

"True but you see," Li ZiChen knew her judging eyes but remained calm. "I had never lost any rock paper scissors game. I had never lost any guesses I make and I never failed to win anything that I want to have."

"Sounds cocky," huffed AiLin as she leaned her forehead to the car. She could have ordered him to find another apartment but at this point she also felt that staying at Li ZiChen’s house would be the safest. Especially since she felt something was odd by the coincidence that the fire broke out from her room.

The landlord spoke of how the firefighter told them that the accident seemed man made and it happened in her room which meant someone had wanted to target her. She didn’t know who could it be but there shouldn’t be so many people who knew where she lived except Li ZiChen and Canary. Though that doesn’t mean those two are the prime suspects considering that after the party, there are many eyes following her every moves.

By the time they arrived back in Li ZiChen’s apartment, AiLin found herself sighing. What kind of twisted fate that had brought her into staying in Li ZiChen’s house when she had just left it thirty minutes ago?

Now that she’s back, she found herself taking her time as she ventured inside the apartment. The apartment felt like a mansion. It didn’t feel as small and stuffy as you would imagine an apartment to be. The ceiling was so tall as it showed the second floor of the apartment. In the living room there was an open wide window that glimmered with lights and views of tall buildings.

AiLin who had reached at the window felt herself staring at the view beneath and found herself staring at the bridge where she had walked before.

Then her eyes widened as she saw Li ZiChen’s reflection on the darkened window. His eyes staring at her intently and the gap between them was barely visible. He reached out his hand, his fingers almost touching her that made her skin tingle but it eventually landed on the glass beside her face.

"Do you like the view?"

AiLin gulped. This distance. His burning gaze. His smile that seemed rather cocky and manly.

She couldn’t tear her eyes away from his gaze on herself, "I just thought that this view covered everything. The park we went to earlier, the bridge I walked at, and.. my apartment."

He laughed. A goddamn laugh that made her skin burn from his breaths.

"Really? Well I guess it is true though you can’t see them too well from here. But the view is really good isn’t it?" Li ZiChen spoke with his tone lowered and his voice turning into a soft whisper, "I like that we could see everything from here but people cannot possibly see toward us with how tall this apartment is."

"A privilege of the wealthy," commented AiLin and she saw him who quickly laugh as if hearing her words as funny.

He removed himself, finally giving her more space and she let out the tension that had made her muscles and heartbeat to fasten.

"You seem to love money a lot," Li ZiChen commented as he sat down near the window. "What do you plan to do next?"

"I want to work," AiLin responded at once, "I doubt that people would accept me knowing my background but—"

"The one who went to the prison is Jiang AiLin not Hua AiLin. Whatever people say, your life is free from any spec of flaw, those records of you killing people isn’t here anymore," said Li ZiChen firmly, "So do what you want."

"I can do what I want?" AiLin questioned him who seemed to be willing on giving up everything she wanted.

"Yes. Though don’t kill another person again," he said with a smile.

"I won’t," AiLin chuckled but that meant this power of his can only control so much.

"No I mean," Li ZiChen spoke to her ears, "You can kill but don’t forget to let me know about it first. I can at least take care of it and make sure you wont be involved. But I need to know it first."

AiLin’s eyes visibly widened at his comment and seeing this, Li ZiChen seemed to have grinned. He stood up, raised his hand over her head but then lowered it down before pointing toward a door near the living room, "That would your bedroom. Mine is upstairs. There will be a maid that comes in to take care of the mess here. She would usually come at two afternoon or seven in the morning depending if it is weekday or workday. Other than that, hm," Li ZiChen suddenly pulled out his pocket and pulled a black card from his wallet, "This is for you to buy whatever you need to decorate your room."

AiLin frowned, "No, I won’t need it." But Li ZiChen took her hand and pressed his card.

"The limit is.. where you don’t need to bother with the limit that’s the point. Tomorrow is a good day to go out, you can even ask your friend to go out together with you. Then the next day you need to expect for your meeting with your family. You can use this card to dress up."

AiLin pouted her lips as this card was the most tempting thing that Li ZiChen had given to her yet. Puffing her cheeks she sighed, "When do I give back this card?"

Li ZiChen stared at her for a long time. She then saw him raising his eyebrows and then rolling his eyes as if he was shrugging her question as something too stupid for his ears.

He then brushed off his hand and made his way toward the stairs, "Oh, AiLin."

AiLin turned to him in question while she twist the card in front of her eyes.

"Good night," Li ZiChen said with a smile.

AiLin wondered when was the last time she had spent her time with someone else under a roof or even say goodnight to the other.

She found an odd emotion that was warm seeping to her heart as she muttered quietly, "Good night..." and she rushed to her room, locking the door behind her while Li ZiChen chuckled at the view, continuing his steps upward where he opened a room that was dark.

Flipping the switch on, he then muttered, "I forgot to tell her not to enter this room."
