Chapter 269: A Painful Suffering
Chapter 269: A Painful Suffering
The other subordinates sticking close to him in case things happened saw him frozen in place. They were all immediately alerted, ready to attack but saw the face of their boss drenched in extreme worry. They haven’t asked what he had seen down there when suddenly he had jumped down, shocking and causing fear to all the men who had seen his entire body disappearing in a blink. They jumped around in panic, rushing to where Li ZiChen was.
When they looked down, they saw him picking little LiAi who was wounded. Her entire body bruised and there was blood pooling underneath him. Li ZiChen carefully looked at her wounds that were far too gnarly and then her hands that were small weakly linked around his finger.
"Papa," she cried, her eyes were wet with tears, swollen, and when she saw him, it was as if she had seen heaven, happy and joyful beyond words which made Li ZiChen to feel an indescribable sense of urgency and sorrow. It’s as if he had just seen AiLin crying with tears after being hurt, the same sense of anger he couldn’t tell who he should direct it to, anger, and helplessness.
He felt that urgency crawling to his throat as he yelled, "Ambulance-" no the terrain was far too difficult they could use a faster route, "BRING THE FIRST AID MEDICAL TEAM AND HELICOPTER. NOW!"
He didn’t have to yell again as everyone who saw the little girl wounded immediately prioritized finding her safety. Inside the helicopter, Li ZiChen kept holding Little LiAi’s hands, worries on his face as he saw the girl crying in pain. He soothed her, whispering, "I’m sorry, just one more injection LiAi, please?" He hoped he could be the one to shoulder the pain instead of her, that she didn’t have to suffer if she could just transfer all her pain into him. But alas it wasn’t possible and even the doctor who saw her condition shook his head.
"We need a quick blood transfusion. Mr Li may I ask your blood type?" The doctor then looked at the girl, "She needs A+ blood type."
"Mine is A+" he continued as he pushed his arms out and rolled the sleeve to his elbow. For a moment he was quiet. Quiet because A+ blood type isn’t the rarest yet for some reason something caught his eyes. Something he couldn’t tell yet in this moment of urgency. He decided to push the thoughts for later, focusing on helping the doctor for a quicker blood transfusion.
Meanwhile, AiLin who had been sitting couldn’t hold it anymore. She stood up, leaving the room and Xiao MuChen behind to find anyone who she could ask to bring her to the mountain area when she saw from the corner of her eyes and heard the men who were in a call, "...successfully."
"What’s that?" AiLin rushed to the man who was startled to see her. Knowing who she is and the respect she owes, they quickly bent their head forward and answered with the honest truth.
"The girl has been found, Miss AiLin. She is currently in an emergency situation in the ICU with the boss. Their current situation is-"
"Bring me there," she asked and seeing them who had turned to each other, as though communicating with their eyes, she reached her hands forward to grab their neck and yelled, "Bring me there! Now!"
And in a hurry the boss who was told to bring her to the hospital sped up with their car, bringing her as quickly as possible to where she had asked which was the hospital. In matters of seconds, Xiao MuChen had also entered her car, knowing where she was going was to LiAi.
She didn’t say anything, quiet as she allowed for Xiao MuChen to come despite their intense argument that had left a terrible stressful air between them. But they didn’t interact, each holding prayer for the girl who was now suffering due to the adult’s greediness.
By the time she arrived in the hospital, she had rushed to the emergency room, asking for the nurse where LiAi and Li ZiChen was when she saw Li ZiChen who was holding his hands in a prayer, sitting down on one of the waiting chair. When he saw her, he stood up, immediately opening his arms to scoop her into his embrace.
He pulled her face gently, frowning, "I’m sorry, I didn’t do a better job in protecting her."
"No," she shook her head, "No, no, don’t be sorry," she answered him, trying to hold a smile together. "What happened?"
He thought of ways to put it easier to words and could only answer weakly, "LiAi tried to escape. She must have realized that manager Gou was planning to get rid of her as she had seen and heard everything. But when she ran away she had slipped and fell from a high hill. Right now she is in surgery for her broken bones and we could only pray and wait for the news now."
"It’s going to be okay. It is right? Your family’s hospital is known to have the best doctor in Beijing," she said to him, scrunching his shirt as the tears she held back began to pour when she thought about LiAi who has suffered and would continue to suffer. The girl didn’t deserve such pain and it hurt her. It hurt her to imagine that right now LiAi was in pain, unable to move. She feared that the fall had caused even greater damage to the girl, feeling fear crawling up like the day she felt her stomach too empty to be normal.
Li ZiChen then turned his face behind her while patting her back. Seeing Xiao MuChen his face turned cross and Xiao MuChen seeing it also flinched. He squeezed his fists until it had turn pale but what could he do? This accident wasn’t entirely Xiao MuChen’s fault. The man had raised LiAi for more than seven years and took care of her so well that LiAi had grown to be clever and surrounded by friends. The life she lead was normal, nothing out of the ordinary, and even happier than most children.
Xiao MuChen tried to protect her so how could he be angry to the person who took care of her?
Yet at the same time he felt an intense hatred against Xiao MuChen, as if angered by something he could really tell well with words.
Squeezing his eyes, Li ZiChen stared at Xiao MuChen, eyes bloodshot, his voice strained, "The doctors said that LiAi’s blood is A+."
Xiao MuChen squeezed his arms as he continued, "And your brother along with his wife doesn’t share the same blood type."
"She’s adopted. Happy?" Xiao MuChen gritted his teeth, "Stop what you guys are doing. I know that you wish that LiAi is your daughter but she isn’t."
"She isn’t," repeated li ZiChen as he nodded sarcastically. He sucked in a mouthful of air and sighed, I saw how LiAi was happy being cared by you. It’s clear that she sees you as her uncle lovingly because you took care of her well. I won’t tear you apart from her so what is the fear in telling the truth Xiao MuChen?"
He was still trying to be polite even when his facial expression refuses to help him.
Xiao MuChen’s jaw clenched as he looked away, his fingers curling into fists at his sides. The weight of Li ZiChen’s words pressed down on him, suffocating as the truth was slipping in.
"What truth?" he finally muttered, his voice hoarse.
Li ZiChen let out a dry laugh, but there was no amusement in his expression. Only exhaustion, frustration, and something else, something like annoyance, like the edge of a knife ready to cut through the last of Xiao MuChen’s lies. But that lie was meant to protect and he didn’t want to use his ruthlessness against someone who truly care for LiAi but his patience was on the edge.
"The truth you’ve been hiding all these years," Li ZiChen said, his voice forced to be calmer. "That LiAi isn’t just some young baby abandoned that your brother took in with his wife. The real fact that she was placed into your hands for a reason."
AiLin stiffened, her tear streaked face shifting between shock and confusion. She narrowed her eyes, looking at Xiao MuChen . "What...? You’re saying as if someone gave LiAi to him.:
"Because that’s what happened, right?" Li ZiChen inquired, teeth gritted.
Xiao MuChen inhaled nervously, looking at her, then back at Li ZiChen and then back to her torn expression which made him felt the guilt rushing in like never before. His chest heaved heavily, not knowing what he should say or what he could say. What could he do so it won’t hurt LiAi’s future?
"She’s not your daughter," Xiao MuChen said, his voice strained. "She’s not mine either. Stop digging. This is for your sake. You can’t even protect yourself and you think you can add another one to your plate?"
