Chapter 260: It Takes Just A Glimpse
Chapter 260: It Takes Just A Glimpse
The following week Jiang NianNian kept a good lookout at Li GuangSha. Much to her surprise, despite Li GuangSha’s face that seems to be so bold and brave, she was rather a meek person who didn’t fight back. One afternoon it happened that Li GuangSha was told to buy seven cups of coffee but when she had came back, no one wanted to pay for the coffee, saying that they would surely pay her back to no avail.
It didn’t help that though at first she was welcomed, soon everyone found out about her situation and began to look down on her. Considering how most designers in their office were son and daughters from wealthy backgrounds that could help fund their hobby of a work, Li GuangSha’s circumstances were a perfect venting point for them. The once kind air of the office became more twisted and Li GuangSha could afford the bullying that comes with being poor but she couldn’t afford losing her money as overtime payment piles up and the promises of her coworkers to give her back her money in time. It became worse as the next day they had asked her to buy more things, knowing well they didn’t have to pay.
Seeing all the bullying, Jiang NianNian smiled inwardly. She had found Li GuangSha extremely worn out that day and followed her to the washroom. At first she had expected the girl to make a phone call or show her true self by smiling but instead she had found Li GuangSha crying, rubbing her eyes as tears spilled down her cheeks.
"Are you alright?" Jiang NianNian called up to her, walking as he reached out to her to pass a few tissues. "Take this."
"O- oh senior Jiang," Li GuangSha stammered as she held the tissue, gently rubbing her tears, "I’m sorry for my shameful behavior, you must be uncomfortable and wanted to use the wash-"
"I came here because I’m worried," Jiang NianNian then rummage through her bag, "This is the money for the coffee."
Li GuangSha’s eyes widened seeing the money that had been stacked out, clearly more than needed and more than simply trying to pay off for the other employees. It felt more like a pity and though she was tempted, the girl shook her head, "It’s not right, senior for me to take it. You didn’t owe me anything."
Jiang NianNian raised her eyebrows. Though desperate she still had moral. This was good at the same time not, thought her in her head.
"How is your mother?" Jiang NianNian then asked which startled Li GuangSha.
She held her arms and pursed her lips into a thin line while Jiang NianNian noted this. She had asked for the best investigator to look into Li GuangSha’s past. Much to her surprise, Li GuangSha wasn’t a mere person created out by someone else but she was really a daughter of a broken family. Her abusive father had left them and died not long years after. Her mother work herself to the bone until she fell ill with a stomach cancer last year and since then Li GuangSha had used up all her money to pay for her mother’s chemotherapy.
There were so many pictures of her throughout her years progressively since childhood and the physical evidence was enough for Jiang NianNian to confirm that Li GuangSha was never associated with the Li family. After all, Li family would never allow any of their family members to suffer and considering how Li GuangSha lives in such hardship, it’s hard to think that if she was a part of Li family, she would be treated in such a miserable life.
"She is... better," drawled Li GuangSha but Jiang NianNian knew that her mother wasn’t anywhere near ’better’. Her mother had once again been admitted in the hospital and the bills were piling up. She couldn’t easily access the free healthcare for the cancer treatment due to her lacking documents and her father’s debts which she had to shoulder before he passed away.
She needed money and Jiang NianNian have quite a lot of it. Even though her family was suffering now with their wealth that slowly depleting, Jiang NianNian had kept some of her own money in a different bank account, one a secret from all her family members and only known by her adoptive parents. They weren’t suffering in money either so if she needed help she could simply ask that stupidly naive couple to pay for her expenses.
It was her last lifeline including the designing competition that was ongoing, one where she needed to win and the tools for her to win was the girl in front of her now.
"I know you are going through a lot, GuangSha and by no means do I want to demean you by paying you with money," she then sighed as she pursed her lips, "My father is also in the hospital. I’m sure you must have heard it. Upon seeing him on the hospital bed I could never be at ease. I worry myself like crazy and I know that though it couldn’t ever compare to what you’re going through, it must feel just as difficult as I do."
"Senior..."
Li GuangSha was touched as Jiang NianNian showed a slight expression of distress before picking a tissue and wiping her dry eyes, ’I’m sorry. I just get very emotional when I talk about my father. I have always seen him as strong and to see that he suddenly crumble like that- I just feel so sad and when I heard about your circumstances, I know that I want to help you no matter how and what I have to do. So it’s not much but I do wish that I could help you by giving you some money."
"I see, I didn’t know that senior cares so much about my situation," Li GuangSha began to weep, wiping away her tears, "Every day have been so tough, everyone was so mean to me here too, waaah."
"Now now," Jiang NianNian patted her back, gently coaxing her and filling her ears with gentle words. "I don’t know how much I could be of help for you GuangSha but the money I offered you, it comes from a sense of wanting to help you, it’s not pity or that I look down on you."
"Senior.. you are so kind to me. What could I ever do to repay your kindness?"
Jiang NianNian pulled up a smile while looking at Li GuangSha. From the outward look of it, she looks friendly, smiling as though she was truly moved by Li GuangSha’s words but those who could see through her acting could see how her smile was more closer to a smirk full of pride, happy that her prey had walked to her trap so willingly.
"You don’t have to repay me, just help me from times to times, GuangSha. I know that you are capable of helping me far more than anyone could ever do."
Li GuangSha stretched out a smile, moved by the selflessness of Jiang NianNian’s words as she comforted her and stayed beside her.
Since then as the competition grew closer, their relationship had gotten closer. Close enough for Li GuangSha to always advise Jiang NianNian on her designs and for her name to be once again reckoned by the media outlets.
AiLin who had just finished her acting from the high school closed shut the news from her phone. To see that Jiang NianNian hadn’t been suffering the past three weeks should be damning but to AiLin it wasn’t so much big of a deal. Instead she had found this news to be quite well, rather happy than sad. After all it was only by flying higher could someone feel the devastating fall.
Meanwhile the filming set’s atmosphere was rough and dry. It seems ever since the accident of her occurred everyone had put FangMin and InRan under scrutiny. This caused for FangMin to reel back despite her desperation on always wanting to know about the man who she loves. Meanwhile InRan. InRan was acting differently. Usually he would cower but these days whenever they locked eyes she would found InRan who had bowed deep as though bowing to a senior, showing her respect. Ignoring her could bring a scandal so AiLin had returned it but it seems InRan had the sensitivity to understand that approaching any closer wouldn’t be comfortable for her as the past could be forgiven but not erased.
Yet on the other hand FangMin was different. She was unhappy with InRan sudden change in behavior and had ordered her to do quite a lot of things but InRan had ignored all her demands, instead focusing all her energy in acting. In turn, FangMin wasn’t happy of course, but InRan seemed to have made up her mind that even if she was going to face FangMin’s rage, it would be better than to partake to all her heinous actions.
AiLin wasn’t at peace seeing this. Fact is, no matter what Inran has done now it would never change the past. But to see that someone could change made her quiet, make her think.
Xiao MuChen’s voice then cut in as he sat beside her, "How is things going for you?"
AiLin was briefly surprised. She turned her head, seeing Xiao MuChen whose hair was swept upward as he let out a loud lazy yawn from his mouth.
She smiled, "It’s been great, how’s LiAi?"
A little surprised, Xiao MuChen cleared his voice, "Good," he can’t exactly say that his niece have been throwing a tantrum here and there because she had been seeing AiLin all over the news from the acting tape and wanted to see her again. Due to it, his niece had been glaring at him, hating his presence that made him saddened.
