Mrs Fox Heinous Revenge: Can You Love A Villainess like Me? -
Chapter 187: Sent Angel
Chapter 187: Sent Angel
The little girl couldn’t have been older than five or six. Small and adorable, she clung tightly to AiLin’s legs, her tiny hands gripping as if afraid of losing her mother to the crowd.
Mother?
Mama?
AiLin’s heart plummeted, the world around her seeming to turn icy in an instant. A knot twisted deep in her stomach, cold and heavy. Her face went pale as she stared down at the girl, her mind racing. If her own baby were still alive- she would have been about this age.
Was this real? Or was she dreaming again? Another cruel illusion of seeing her child from the nightmares?
"...AiLin!"
Her eyes snapped open, the dream, or maybe it was a nightmare? The blur between nightmare and truth vanished as reality came crashing in. Her breath was uneven, her chest rising and falling with labored gasps as her heart thundered like a drum inside her.
YanLan had called for her name. It seemed he had noticed that she was frozen at her spot, face ashy and pale while her entire body was trembling as her breathings came hitched from her lungs. He knew that she had a momentarily panic attack, overstimulated by the girl who had ran and hugged her legs at once.
The young girl was still hugging her legs tightly, her round eyes stared at AiLin with her eyebrows furrowed while her nose scrunched. The adorable little girl had also noticed that AiLin looked ill and was worried that her mother was going to be sick.
"Is mama alright?" The girl’s eyes began to turn wet as tears welled up on the rims of her eyes, "No, mama I’m sorry for running suddenly to you, d- did it hurt? Did I hurt you?" she shuddered as she asked and unable to hold herself any longer, she cried aloud with her hands wide open, "Please don’t get sick- don’t get- huaaaaaaaaaaaa-"
The young girl wept, rubbing her eyes that continued to drop large teardrops in the size of pearls.
The high pitch crying had brought everyone attention to the spot but also for AiLin to get back to her reality. She looked at the young girl whose face adorable and as soft as milk bread. Her cheeks puffy and her lashes wet from all the tears she was shedding.
Seeing the girl, AiLin’s smile became much more tender. She had bent down, picked the young girl and carried her to the arms with an effortless tug.
"Shhh, I’m sorry for scaring you sweet one," AiLin whispered with her lips wide and her tone gentler than a feather, "I’m not sick so please don’t cry alright?" But the young girl seemed to have not heard her sweet coaxing, deep into her tears as she feared she had hurt her own mother. AiLin looked at YanLan, nudging him to help her by wiggling her eyebrows but YanLan seemed to be flustered worse than her.
He began to step in circles and shook his head, "I can’t do it, I.. I can’t handle children, Hieee-" He seemed to have some sort of phobia, thought Ailin as when she came closer to him, YanLan had sped up as if he was going to win that running trophy.
Sighing, AiLin tried to pull the candies she had from her pocket. While patting the girl’s head, she searched for a place to sit and made sure to make an eye contact to the little girl, wiping her tears gently with her sleeve as they sat down, "My cute princess stop rubbing your pretty eyes, okay?" she began, her tone filled with warmth. "Look what I have for you." She pulled out the candies from her pocket and held them up, the wrappers crinkling slightly. "Do you like candy? I have some just for you."
The little girl sniffled, her eyes still watery, but her gaze flickered down at the candies. Her nose scrunched as she tried to lower her loud sobbings.
AiLin smiled, the kind of smile that could melt even the most stubborn of worries. "They’re really special candies, you know," she continued, gently unwrapping one and holding it out to the girl. "Only princesses like you get to enjoy them. And I think you deserve one after being so brave."
She gave the girl a moment to consider her offer and swayed her again in a teasing voice, "You see these candies, they are special- one of a kind- and magical. Once you eat it, the world will just sparkle and everything will be okay now."
The girl hesitated for a moment, then, as the candy was placed into her small hand, she slowly began to nibble on it, the sweetness and sourness of the lemon candy calmied her down. AiLin kept her gaze steady, nodding encouragingly. "See? It’s already working, isn’t it? You’re starting to feel better already."
AiLin leaned closer, her voice dropping into a gentle whisper as she felt the bundle of warmth in her hand as a treasure she would exchange her life with to experience again. "Good girl, you’re brave and sweet, how cute you are."
The girl, with a small, tentative smile, wiped the remaining tears away and snuggled closer to AiLin, the candy in her hand offering her comfort as her sobs gradually ceased.
YanLan slowly inched toward her, tip toeing like a character from a comedy cartoon. He hesitate as he came closer and whispered to AiLin even though the girl could still hear him, "You calmed her down? Woah.. is that magic?"
AiLin laughed at his words and leaned back a little, her gaze softening as she looked at the little girl who was now quietly enjoying her candy. "No magic, just patience," She turned her attention to the girl for a moment, making sure she was comfortable, before looking back at YanLan. "Sometimes, a little kindness and understanding are all it takes to calm someone down."
She shook her head, amusement twinkling in her eyes as she added, "But if I had magic, I’d use it to get rid of all the tears in the world." She winked playfully, before turning her attention back to the child, making sure she was alright.
She then rubbed the girl’s cheeks, "Do you know where your mother is?"
"Here!" she pointed her small fingers toward AiLin, making her to squeeze her smile.
"Who did you come here with?" AiLin asked again before she looked at YanLan, "Maybe she’s the child actress?"
"Maybe?"
"LiAi!"
AiLin saw from afar how MuChen was running toward them. He was also the person who had called for the little girl’s name. She would have doubted that they were related until she heard the little girl in her arms waving her hands excitedly toward MuChen, calling him happily, "Uncle MuChen!!"
Letting the girl to jump down from her arms, AiLin looked at how quick little LiAi hugged Xiao MuChen’s legs before the actor quickly carry him to his arms. So they do know each other... but uncle? They don’t really look too similar do they?
He then looked at her, stiffening up like how he did when he first saw her, uneasy, like someone walking into a minefield. He bent down and scooped up LiAi, but when his gaze met AiLin’s, his body tensed. He has been giving that scared and hesitant look when he saw her even earlier, making her to wonder if she had beaten him before, judging by his slight fear whenever he saw her.
Even so, he moved toward her, as if drawn by some unspoken obligation. She could feel the awkward energy radiating off him, his polite demeanor couldn’t hide his unease. He stopped just short of her, standing close enough to speak but far enough to keep his guard up. Then, with a quick bow, he murmured, "Miss AiLin, I am very sorry for bothering you and thank you for taking care of LiAi," his eyes moved to the girl and he schooled her though his eyes still gentle to his niece, "What did I tell you about slipping from your nannies and running to the acting set again?"
Being scolded, the polite little LiAi puckered her pink lips, her large round eyes seemed to have a magic that could soften any adult who was trying to scold her but it never worked to her own uncle, causing her to droop her head down and her eyes going sad as she had made her uncle upset again by not protecting her promise.
AiLin’s heart gave a soft pang as she watched the little girl steal a glance up at her uncle, hoping for a reprieve, before she let her gaze fall again. Seems like MuChen wasn’t completely immune as he rubbed his niece’s head gently and seemed like he was going to give up the scoldings.
"What do you say to Miss AiLin?"
The girl looked at her with large eyes and muttered in apology, "I’m sorry for disturbing you, mama."
AiLin chuckled hearing the word "mama" coming from little LiAi while MuChen panic and scolded her, "She’s not your mother LiAi," then he turned toward her, offering a sincere look of apology, "I know that I shouldn’t be bringing my niece to the acting set. But I had taken a permit from the director so I hope you’d understand."
"No worries," AiLin said with a small shrug, a gentle smile tugging at her lips. "Little ones like LiAi are always welcome."
Her gaze softened as she looked at the young girl. It had been a long time since she’d felt a warmth like this, pure, innocent, and unguarded. For a brief moment, it was as if LiAi’s small arms around her had soothed something deep inside, like a balm on wounds she’d long thought would never heal.
"If.." she muttered, if she was also alive, she would have been the same age.
