Chapter 188: Another One

"If?" MuChen asked, his eyes questioning and she waved her hand in front of him.

"If you ever need help looking after LiAi, I won’t mind. I like children, but her parents must be very busy to ask such a busy actor like yourself to take care of her," she probed as her curiosity strike.

MuChen gently covered LiAi’s ears without her notice and spoke in a solemn tone, "My brother and sister in law passed away four years ago, so I have been taking care of her since then. I don’t always have to bring LiAi with me but she’s been feeling lonely in the house."

"That’s fine, I understand that there are situations when you have to bring children to work," she then waved at LiAi who shyly waved back at her as her pink cheeks seems to turn pinker.

"I should go now then," MuChen said in a hurry. Despite being known as someone who is very friendly, he was quick on his feet to leave which made AiLin to truly wonder if she had somehow made him her enemy.

MuChen turned to face his back over AiLin and hugged LiAi tighter to his arms. He muttered to his niece, "Don’t go to her again, LiAi."

"But she’s mama..." LiAi muttered, "She looks like mama from the picture you showed me uncle! Why couldn’t we go home with mama?"

"That’s not your mother," MuChen answered quickly and he could see little LiAi’s eyes filled with sadness as tears threaten to fall. MuChen felt his heart squeezed in ache seeing such sadness but he repeated firmly, "Even if she looks like her, that’s not your mother. Your mother is... she’s kinder-"

"-Mister MuChen!" AiLin cut off his words unknowingly, causing the man to jump on his feet. She saw him turning to her only slightly and his eyes that skeptically studied her. "Here, you dropped this earlier," AiLin then offered the script that had fallen earlier in the hallway. It seems that MuChen didn’t expect her to give him his script back as he took it in reluctance.

"Thank you," he then bowed his head slightly and rushed toward the black van which she assumed to be his car.

Seeing his suspicious behavior, even YanLan couldn’t help but remark as he stood beside her, "Have you fought with him before?"

"No, I never see him before I’m sure about it," AiLin then turned to her hands that were still sticky from the candy and the candy wrap that was still inside her pocket. It felt like today will be a good day as she was allowed to enjoy a small time with the little girl who’s very similar to her own daughter.

She squeezed her hands, smiling softly as she didn’t think that she would need this moment to feel healed.

"Miss AiLin," Director Chu who had seen her greeted her at once, making his way toward her with a polite smile, "You really look even more similar to our main character," he pointed his hand to the hardcovered novel of ’Death By Your Hands’ and the main character’s face that was illustrated.

Looking at the book YanLan whispered beside her, "She really does look like you."

"Yeah," AiLin never had the novel with that cover so she was also surprised to see how similar the illustration of the main character with her. Same long black hair and foxy eyes, a smile that was bright despite the darkness that seemed to foreshadow the tragedy that the novel possess.

"I didn’t know that she would look so similar to me, or did you create this new cover for the movie advertisement?" AiLin asked Director Chu who shook his head.

"Don’t you know? This is the first ever cover made by the author Mr. MuKe. It seems the book was published by JS Entertainment and the illustration was first created there," Director Chu explained. "That was also why most of the actress that auditioned all have to dye their hair black for the role. Don’t you know about that?"

AiLin shook her head, causing Director Chu to laugh heartily, "I see. I see. Then I guess this is fate. Have you read the script for today? We will be doing scene thirteen. As you know usually we don’t tape a scene according to the chronological order, so I hope you’re prepared for it?"

"Yes, I have heard everything from the scriptwriter," AiLin then saw the cameras and bright light that were placed in a set that was created to look like a school washroom. The first scene of the movie was in fact a flashback that happen in the novel. She remembered it well and wasn’t particularly worried as it was a scene where the main character endured physical bullying of her classmate which was something she had gone through since high school. "I haven’t seen the other actresses."

"Did RangEr didn’t tell you about the actresses?" sighed Director Chu who then pointed to the girls who were wearing the school uniform with pink cardigans and purple sweaters, different from her who was dressed in a simple tracksuit. "Those would be the actresses that work with you, they’re quite well known in their field as supporting actresses..."

AiLin looked forward to frown a little when she saw FangMin who had changed into the uniform with the pink cardigan and the woman beside her who was pulling to her purple sweater, a familiar face as isn’t she one of Jiang NianNian’s friend?

Her name must be InRan, the girl who once wore the mask of a sincere friend, tricking her into believing she had found someone she could trust. All the while, she had been nothing more than a traitor, laughing at her pain alongside Jiang NianNian and the others.

She remembered what happened now, as she had once told InRan about her family’s abuse which she then tattle to Jiang NianNian for the entire school to know.

It seems however, InRan was scared of FangMin who was staring at her with her eyebrows furrowed and arms crossed. They were talking but it seems InRan was on the losing end of the argument and could only squeeze her hand into a fist.

Director Chu then patted her shoulders, "You should go and talk with them about the scene. It’s quite cold but they’ll be throwing you a bucket of water for the scene, do you think you can do it?"

AiLin nodded, shrugging as even though she was easily susceptible to coldness, she didn’t think that it would take such a long time to tape the scene.

"No worries, I’ll make sure to do all the scenes swiftly. Good luck, Director Chu."

Director Chu thanked her and left, laughing happily as he consider his movie perfect with all the actors and actresses he had hired.

She then turned to YanLan, instructing him, "I think it’d be best if you step aside now."

But the latter didn’t move. He hummed back at her and looked thoughtfully at the girl beside FangMin. Though he wasn’t sure who the actress is as she doesn’t seem too famous to be well known widely by a glance form afar, but she had caused AiLin’s expression to tighten, as if meeting her old enemy.

"Girls are more vicious you know," he said, advising her but she brushed it off.

"That’s the more reason why I have to be there. You know what they say, keep your friends close but your enemies even closer," AiLin then patted him on the shoulder, marching toward the two seat as she slowly walked from behind them, waving her hands with a warm and friendly greeting, "Hey, we meet again Miss Fang. I didn’t know that we will be shooting a scene together."

FangMin was startled as she turned her head behind. The woman’s eyes studied her up and down, looking at AiLin’s attire and realizing that she was the lead actress for the movie which seemed to have surprised her more, "Miss AiLin!" FangMin’s tone changed into a bright chirp after the studying.

AiLin could tell that for a brief moment FangMin was eyeing her to check whether she was someone worth to befriend. After deciding that she was, the tone she used was incredibly friendlier.

"I see! You’re going to be the lead actress," FangMin settled to the side and offered her a seat.

AiLin took it with a mutter of thank and sat down, "Yes, I did check the characters that would be playing but I wasn’t aware of the actresses that would be playing in the scene-" her words were stopped suddenly as the girl who was sitting beside FangMin had let out a loud gasp.

The gasp had turned out to came from InRan who seemed to have finally caught her entire face. She was already shocked to see AiLin but the school shirt that AiLin wore resemble so much as their high school uniform which had reminded her of the past, adding the horror.

"Y- Y- You AiLin..?" InRan had lost herself in a moment, losing her politeness as she pointed her index finger toward AiLin and letting out the loudest yell. "How are you here- you’re not supposed to be here!"

AiLin tilted her head to the side. She smiled which seemed to have only rattled InRan more.

It seems unlike the others, InRan remembered her well.

This should be fun

"Do I know you?" AiLin asked, her pretentious words coming out from her lips smooth to hide the fact that she was lying and it seemed InRan’s pallid face turned stiff as she realized the many eyes that had turned to her sudden outburst.
