Chapter 109: PHD in Babbling
Chapter 109: PHD in Babbling
Certainly upon seeing his eyes softening and worries tinting his handsome face, even AiLin couldn’t continue to be as stubborn as she usually was. She pursed her lips and replied in a small squeak, "...ht."
"How much?" Li ZiChen had leaned his face forward. Though he could smell her scent that aroused his emotions, he prioritized in listening for her safety and health, "You can whisper it to me."
He then nodded and sighed, turning to the doctor, "Eight in bad times, three at most."
"Eight?" The doctor said in baffledness. He stared at AiLin for a long and hard moment, pressing his chin as if he was facing a serious problem that were going to cause chaos to the world. With a sigh he then uttered, "It’s dehydration, lack of sleep, lack of nutrients, and also lack of..."
There were so many of the words "lack ofs" that AiLin began to stop hearing it and only focus on Li ZiChen who was talking while pressing his fingers on her hand, massaging her thumbs as if he was going to make sure that her pian would disappear by doing so. She felt a slight fit of anger when she thought of how everything seemed so clear in his eyes, as he could guess her actions, knowing if she was sick by seeing her, and... and...
That was new.
This was new. This emotions were new. To be taken care by someone was new. She had never been taken care back in the Jiang Family House. When she was sick, she was kicked out of the house on a snowy day to the point that doctors told her that her toes could have fallen off due to the intense coldness she suffered. She had pneumonia, asthma, and she had a terrible sense of insomnia. When things didn’t go to Mrs Jiang’s favor, she would often get so mad to the point that she would threw things occasionally toward her, and that caused her to fear the thought of sleeping before she can make sure that she would make Mrs Jiang happy.
After the abortion, it had gotten worse. Her illness doubled but the most prominent one was her mental illness that she never really took great care of. As long as her body could move, her mental didn’t matter to her.
So it was odd.
For her to be taken are physically by Li ZiChen was really odd. No one could have cared for her health but Li ZiChen. This caused her heart to feel with a terrible emotion. She called it "terrible" because it’s foreign but truth to be told, it didn’t feel too bad at all.
His fingers massaging her were cold and that felt good to her burning skin, his words coaxing her to speak out the truth of how many medicine she had been drinking per day didn’t sound condescending, nor did it sounded as if he was going to look at her in disappointment.
She could only think of the ache on her heart that was caused by his action as irksome but why can’t she swat off this hands if she really did feel annoyed?
"A good amount of rest is needed," said the doctor after his endless nagging. AiLin almost thought the doctor had a PHD in babbling as he didn’t seem to be able to stop himself from talking. He must have wrote a book about this mouthful of nags before, she added in her head. "May we go outside and talk alone young master."
’Young master’
Then this doctor must also be the same as Nanny Po, someone who had took care or possibly known Li ZiChen since he was young.
She saw as they all walked out of the room. "All" as in Li ZiChen and the doctor. The three assistants were still in the room, as if making sure that everything was in place while sneaking glances to her. She only saw one of them who was scolding the other with a glare and a small pinch on the side of their waists before then telling them to shoo away from the office for good.
"Would you like some drink? Tea? I suppose I cannot give you sodas," said the young man with a pleasant smile. An assistant in his late age of twenty, a bit older than her and he seemed to be more quick on his feet as he tore the plastic wrapping the wooden spoon and placed it on top of a tissue beside the congee. "I think you were also allowed to eat. It’s the Boss’s favorite congee restaurant, he’s a gourmet so I’m sure it would taste really delicious."
"I’m fine with water," she said with a polite manner to the assistant who in return seemed delighted by her polite tone. "I thought ZiChen needed to go somewhere really quick for his job?"
"Well, the Boss did have to go for a meeting to buy out a new invention... but that doesn’t matter," the assistant quickly changed upon seeing AiLin’s brief moment of guilt passing by her eyes. He spoke quickly, "The Boss always told me that money could always be found again but people cannot. He meant to say that while money can be important, it couldn’t be more important than the people around you."
"Oh," AiLin didn’t know that there was such a gentle side to Li ZiChen. He’s so good that she began to wonder what kind of demon is he holding inside him. She hummed as she looked down on her body that’s being covered by the thick blanket of pink color with scatter of cat patterns, "This pink blanket seems like it’s been stored for a long time."
"Oh right, I think that was bought for Miss Mei Hua," said the assistant, not thinking much of it as it’s known very well that Mei Hua is the Boss’s childhood friend. "I think that was when she had to change her clothes after getting rained down. We also have a change of women clothing if you’d like."
"For Mei Hua?"
"Oh but you two are the same size, it won’t matter right? Or if you prefer a new clothing, don’t hesitate to ask!"
He was meaning to be hospitable but AiLin’s face had changed into one that loomed in a brief ponder as she stared at the blanket that now felt itchy to her skin.
