Chapter 108: Warmer Than Cooking Pot

Lifted as if she was a small little dog and carried on Li ZiChen’s arms were the last thing AiLin had expected to happen to her. She stared at him, brows still furrowed, "I’m not sick." She could see from her peripheral vision how everyone was gawking at them, shocked beyond words as if they didn’t expect that Li ZiChen would carry her, worry about her, or even touched her body.

Truth is, AiLin was still unaware of the strong aversion Li ZiChen had amongst women and only thought the people surrounding them were shocked because how bold he was in carrying her by his arms with so little hesitation.

When his light brown eyes peered down to her, a clear frustration appeared on his eyes. She knew she had burdened him but he didn’t have to look so frustrated does he? Because her heart sting even if she tried to brush it off as it being the illness.

Then came out his words, "You’re sick," he pressed his tone, "Sick, AiLin. Very sick. You’re warmer than a cooking pot."

She realized then in a blink that Li ZiChen was frustrated because she still insisted that she wasn’t sick. He then made no further argument and brought her away from the place, rushing toward the elevator he had just walked out from. As they entered, she could see Mei Hua’s face, pale from shock but her hands were trembling as she clenched it out of anger.

She stared as the two figure diminish and people gathering in a tow, gossiping at every turns they could,

"That’s CEO Li’s.. mistress?"

"They say that he hates women’s touch so much so that he would even throw them out of his room naked after they tried to trick him into sleeping with him."

"The previous assistant went homeless after she had tried to spike CEO Li’s drink."

Thus they all had one similar question scattered over their heads— what kind of woman could even catch the heart of someone as frigid as Li ZiChen??!— How did she manage to do it?!

It was no question for people to fall for him. Perfectly handsome, rich to no bounds, and extremely a gentleman to his family.

Mei Hua angrily snapped her glare at the workers who were gossiping and they scattered away, fearing that Mei Hua’s anger would be directed to them then as it was no secret that Mei Hua was the only woman who could have gotten the closest to Li ZiChen. She even managed to make everyone think that she was in a relationship with Li ZiChen, by telling them that she had made dinner and lunch for him, that she has a key to his house, and that she would linger in his office for a few hours for their romance "rendezvous". Of course that was all lies as she would be in Li ZiChen’s office alone by letting herself in when Li ZiChen was out of the building.

But this should have been enough to make everyone rethink of her position and regard her as his lover.

She didn’t expected that today she would be embarrassed right in front of people as Li ZiChen had carried that old hag by his arms!

"JingYi," she spoke, gritting her teeth hard enough until her jaw ache, "I... how could ZiChen ignored me after she had hurt me?"

Li JingYi eyed the hurtful expression on Mei Hua’s face and he stifled down his sigh as women like his mother would be offended when he sighed after they voice out their emotion. He spoke fairly, "I have talked to AiLin before, she isn’t rude nor will she ever mean something ill to someone, I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding. Her expression is as cold as Brother ZiChen so you’d often mistaken their sour expression as anger but trust me that isn’t true."

Mei Hua’s eyes were curtained by her lashes as she uttered in despise, "You’re siding with her?"

Blinking he shook his head, the innocent young man spoke naively, "I was just merely stating what I think but if you’re worried, I can ask it again for you— wait where are you going? Wait for me!"

AiLin who was seated at the couch had been plopped down on a cushion. In a mere second, three assistants came to the office following Li ZiChen’s arrival. They had brought a warm congee that seemed freshly made and out of the stove, smelling like ginger and herbs as well as meat that made her stomach rumble. Someone else had came with an IV bag and a doctor accompanied the third assistant who had brought a thick blanket and passed the AC remote which was in the assistant’s phone to Li ZiChen’s hands as he lowered the temperature into a warmer one.

"She’s been shivering," Li ZiChen spoke to the doctor who was administrating the IV to her hand.

She closed her left eyes in a small blink when she felt the needle entering her skin, prickling her body, and then from the other side heard the doctor say, "Have you been drinking any medicine Miss AiLin?"

"No," she spoke without missing a beat.

"She did," Li ZiChen cut off. He saw her eyes that stared at him in frown but he disregarded it, "The Nanny told me that she often eat this medicine. Thankfully I have it all written out." And placing it to her doctor hands, the doctor frown.

"How many have you been drinking for a day?"

"Just once," she said again while her eyes turning away but Li ZiChen saw that.

He moved toward her, sat in front of the couch and crouched near her legs, eyeing her. AiLin’s bad habit of turning away to people who express concern to her meant that she was lying something.

"Once but how much?" Li ZiChen wasn’t going to fall for her tricks and she was momentarily shocked.

No one would usually know that she would answer questions with half truths and lies. So how did he manage to know about it?

She shook her head only to feel him placing his hand on her hand and spoke in a honey tone, as if knowing that coercing wouldn’t move to sway AiLin’s heart but coaxing with gentle whispers would.

"Please? How much? We won’t scold you," he said as if trying to appease a naughty child.
