Chapter 110: Tender Puppy Eyes

Outside the room was Li ZiChen. He had took off his suit, leaving his white shirt that was free from any wrinkles wrapped around the tight fitting light gray vest that showcased his tight waist. His face was amiss, anger or frustration, the emotions changed from one to another as he brought his hand to his nose and pinched the bridge.

The doctor spoke to him again, the same doctor who had taken care of him since childhood, "It is something that you need to talk with the patient. If the patient doesn’t want to discuss this with you, a great idea would be bringing this matter in front of her therapist as well."

"I understand," Li ZiChen responded as he crossed his arms with a heavy sigh.

The old doctor stared at him as he had never seen the young boy cared for an outsider so much as he had cared for AiLin. Li ZiChen’s priority was always either his family and no others, thus seeing the young man in front of him worrying so deeply until creases form on his forehead upon those usually frigid expression, his caring was clear like a bright sun to the old doctor’s eyes who smiled in return.

"From what I could see, young master," the old doctor turned to see AiLin who was at the couch, pushing aside the blanket to the Assistant’s hands in refusal. He continued, "That the miss has a really fragile heart. It’s surprising, she seems so strong physically but she doesn’t seem to be really strong in her heart. Don’t you know? The old folks like us always believe that the stronger a person’s face look, the more tender their heart."

"I know," Li ZiChen stared to the room through the glass doors, "That’s why it has always worried me."

He then felt the doctor’s hands on his shoulder. "Eight tablet per day wouldn’t kill her but it is very dangerous to her liver, I suggest you try to fix this problem with her."

He nodded to the old man who then prepared to lift his suitcase and be shown the way out by the assistant. Before he left, the doctor seemed to have recalled something and spoke out, "Right, young master, please do not be forgotten of your father’s birthday party."

Li ZiChen let out a smile, "How will I ever forget about it? Mother’s been blowing my phone for me to come and visit." And he would be bringing Ailin there, so how couldn’’t he look forward to it? "Take care on your way home, Doctor Zu."

And once he had finished the brief discussion with the doctor, Li ZiChen breathed in a mouthful of air, pulling back his composure as he entered the room and made a glance to Assistant Su who was still talking to AiLin. When the latter saw his eyes, the older assistant quickly bowed his head and excused himself out of the room swiftly as if he was a wind blowing.

Now alone, Li ZiChen made his way to sit in front of her. Looking at her pale face but feverish cheeks, AiLin who always seemed confident and shine bright like a sun seemed weaker and much smaller. He had thought about it last time when she was asleep, of how small she was, of how adorable she looked. The fact that something had tried to harm such a lovable creature didn’t make any sense to him. How could they?

"What did the doctor say?" She spoke, her voice like a sweet vanilla cream to his tongue.

"That you need to have a lot of rest. The prison should have fed you well, why were you severely underweight?"

"I was?" She looked aside, "I never thought of it."

"That couldn’t be, Doctor Zu told me that you would have felt dizzy and faint a few times in the morning," he then placed his hand on his knees and leaned forward, "AiLin, do you not care about your health?"

The question was direct and it was full of concern but being asked such a question made her felt weak and it made her felt irked. She shook her head, "I do care."

"People who care about their health wouldn’t go out of their way to hurt themselves by pushing their body to a brink."

"I wasn’t pushing my body."

"Explain your fever to me then?"

She was tongue tied. And feeling accusative, she muttered, "Nothing seemed to win against you."

"This isn’t a matter of winning or losing," Li ZiChen sighed. He moved from his seat and stood up which made her shut her eyes in exchange. Seeing this, he narrowed his eyes. It wasn’t too often or too noticeable but if you were to look at AiLin carefully, she would always back away when someone suddenly rush or walk up toward her. It was a condition reflex, as if her body was already in mode of defensive fearing something would hurt her and that made him frown.

He couldn’t even care how she still felt jumpy around him— his only worry was how that fear was deep rooted in her heart even if she acted like it didn’t matter much to her.

"Please," Li ZiChen bent down to the floor near her knees. He plopped his head on her laps, his lips pressed thinly, and his crystal-like brown eyes peered at her softly. Tenderness wrapped around his words like cottons, his gaze gentle, his touches felt so dainty like a feather. It was as if the stars from the sky had been taken off from the sky and placed around his face, causing him to look sparkly as his big round eyes, begged her like an adorable puppy asking for a pet and rub on its stomach.

AiLin felt a tug on her heart— a tug that felt different from before.

"Please, take care of yourself." He could see her eyes rounding and she seemed to be faltering on her once stubborn thoughts of not pushing herself, swayed to agree to his plea. Li ZiChen inwardly smile at this finding. Now he knows that he could simply give her a puppy eyes and she would immediately falter on her stubbornness like now.

"It hurts me when you’re sick."

"I- I get it!" AiLin softly pushed away those begging face from her face. Her heart was racing. Scary! She didn’t know why her heart was racing and what this odd thump thump noise on her heart but she suspected it to be fear. She must be fearing this handsome face that had given her such an irresistible expression. That must be it!

"I won’t push myself."

"Promise?"

His eyes were too dangerous— don’t look!

"Promise!"

"If you break your promise you’ll sleep in my room."

"Alright, alright I said I promised already— WHAT?"
