Chapter 105: Everyone Has an End Goal
Chapter 105: Everyone Has an End Goal
The room went silent at once.
AiLin slid her eyes close, wetness clinging to her eyes. The people staring at her was in a moment of stunned to the point that they had gone deep into ponder before shuddering as a cold chill crawl under their skin. It took a long time for them to process the kind of emotions that they had felt. At first it was desperation. Though the character writer Xue had played out sounded extremely angered by AiLin’s character, they could feel the sincere calmness coming from AiLin.
That calmness however felt more despairing.
With her empty bleak eyes, her words had came out numb. It was enough to cause their heart to drum as they anticipated the words AiLin said next in a moment of stress. When AiLin voiced out her last sentence, the tears had dripped from her eyes as though her body was crying from the pain but her head was much too exhausted to react to the emotion.
Director Chu was one of the people who had felt the deep tremble that resonated to his the pit of his stomach. He pushed his chair behind and then rose to his feet. Quickly he raised his hand and went for a loud clap.
Only after they had heard the clap that they all managed to snap out from the long five minute ponder that they had fallen to. Li JingYi was also impressed, so much so that he had let out a loud gasp of "Woah" under his breaths. He didn’t knew that AiLin was so good at acting and his body had conditioned itself to clap and applause his praise aloud.
Writer Xue begrudgingly clapped only to stop after realizing that his body had moved to praise AiLin’s acts when he wasn’t supposed to.
Damn it!
Director Chu quickly passed a box of tissue to the staff who ran toward AiLin for it.
AiLin looked at the staff, slightly confused, "I don’t need them."
"Oh you have handkerchief?"
"Handkerchief? But why?" She pointed as the staff then turned at her troubled.
"Your tears, aren’t you going to wipe them?"
AiLin blinked and placed her hand on her cheek, frowning at the trace of her weakness. Without hesitation she rubbed her eyes roughly, annoyed seeing the tears than happy.
At the same time, she heard Director Chu’s words, "How long have you been acting for?"
Her entire life, thought AiLin. She had to act for the sake of Mrs Jiang after all.
"I never acted before," she answered to Director Chu as she didn’t have any history of properly acting out a role. "But I am familiar with how to act."
"I see, you took theatre club before? Or perhaps lessons?"
She shook her head which made Director Chu go quiet. The acting AiLin had served felt so real and authentic. As someone in a directing career, he needed someone who could convince the audience of the real emotions they went through, so the audience could grasp the emotions and relate to them. This was a skill only famous and talented actresses could dish out and AiLin was someone who seemed so naturally skilled in it.
"When I heard your last sentence, I really did feel my heart drop," said Director Gu beside Director Chu as he wrote down his own thoughts on AiLin’s mostly empty audition paper. "It feels as if I was really seeing the real XinYi. I could even feel the panic of wanting to stop you from saying all those words out of heartache, just like how Ru Xuan should have felt for you."
"Indeed," Director Chu continued off, "I have seen many actresses who had managed to pull off tricks but never have I ever felt the emotions that I felt earlier. You had convinced me so much that you wanted to take your own life, it is a skill that is so raw and unique. Though they could make others cry, you make me feel more than only shedding tears, to feel that panic and alertness as someone else would feel when hearing their close friend’s thoughts of ending their own life. This is an amazing act, you have done extremely well Miss AiLin."
AiLin blinked.
To be praised was something she used to hope from her parents. She never disliked being praised or taken care of no matter how much she verbally dismiss it in her head and words. Deep down there’s a part of her that still wanted to be praised, comforted, or to have someone who would let her lean her back on their shoulders.
She wondered why when she thought of this realization only one clear face of the handsome man with light brown eyes that would often smile when seeing her.
But.. when this all ends.
"Do you like the novel, Miss AiLin?" Director Chu asked again.
"I think, I did," her answer caused the director to look at her confused as she said "i think" instead of being extremely certain that she had liked what she read. She added with a brief sigh, "I have read that book for four years. Again and again, I find myself opening each Chapters. I think I did liked it."
"I see, it would explain why you would dedicate yourself to express XinYi as such, I can feel your sincerity."
She smiled to the Director. As she had done what she wanted, all of a sudden a part of darkness that clouded her heart lightened up. She felt as if burdens had been lifted from her back. As if she had crossed her bucket list and could once again step into her end goal.
After all this revenge ends...
What will she do?
She had made her choice in the prison six years ago. She knew what she would do when she had exacted her revenge.
Unlike XinYi, she wasn’t ill, nor did she hope to be ill.
But like XinYi, her end goal...
"We will be taking the audition tape with us, is that alright with you, miss AiLin?"
She nodded to the director, offering him a sincere bow, "Thank you for letting me have this opportunity."
"Please don’t thank us," Director Gu answered instead, "We are honored to be able to see such a beautiful performance. We will be getting back in contact to you soon."
This should be a happy news but AiLin only wanted to enter the audition, she hadn’t thought about properly being an actress. She bowed wordlessly and left like a wind, leaving everyone in a moment of loneliness that despaired their hearts.
