Chapter 553: Chapter 553: No Beginning, No End

Su Mu was originally planning to return to the studio the next day. Although work had temporarily come to a pause, post-production editing was still part of the process, and she felt uneasy not being there. However, Fu Shinian, empathizing with her recent exhaustion, wouldn’t let her leave no matter what, essentially keeping her at home under a sort of soft imprisonment for three days.

Thinking back, this wasn’t the first time Fu Shinian had ’softly imprisoned’ her, but this time Su Mu felt no discomfort. Instead, she found every act of his filled with tender care and love. When she realized she had such thoughts, Su Mu shivered, feeling somewhat disgusted with herself.

She was already a mother to a 3-year-old child and was nearly 30 years old. How could she still entertain such girlish thoughts?

But undeniably, her mindset did seem to be getting younger. Since reuniting with Fu Shinian, every day felt like Valentine’s Day to her. His patience, tolerance, consideration, and care made Su Mu feel that, compared to Qiqi, she was the real little princess he cherished.

Although... every night she had to endure his endless demands, perhaps because they had reached an understanding, she naturally accepted this aspect of their relationship and sometimes even felt it was the only way to express all her feelings.

Fu Shinian had stayed home these past few days to ’supervise’ Su Mu, so he hadn’t gone to the office. Work was brought over by Song Yi to Gui Ning Residence. Today, Song Yi once again delivered some documents, greeted Su Mu who was playing with Qiqi downstairs, and then went upstairs. In the study, Song Yi placed the documents in front of Fu Shinian for his signature and took the opportunity to report the matters he had been asked to investigate in the last few days.

"Mr. Fu, I have thoroughly checked out Qiqi’s new teacher as you requested," Song Yi said.

He then handed over a document to Fu Shinian:

"The information shows there’s nothing to worry about, but if you’re still not reassured, I can arrange for someone to keep watching."

Fu Shinian glanced through the documents, his gaze lingering on Yu Xin’s photo for a few seconds, then spoke: "No need, as long as there’s no problem, it’s fine. Qiqi seems to like this teacher, and it wouldn’t be good if she were to discover our background check."

"Yes, sir."

If he could do it over, Fu Shinian would definitely not make the same choice. He might have not only asked Song Yi to have people follow her but might have even pulled Qiqi out of school completely, keeping her close at all times, never to be separated from her.

But, there are no ’ifs’ in this world, nor are there forewarnings. What is destined to happen, will inevitably happen.

Of course, this is a story for later.

Two days later, Fu Shinian felt Su Mu had rested enough, and she too was at the brink of her patience. Continuing to supervise her like this might end in an outburst, so he agreed to let Su Mu return to the studio and himself concluded his short break, going back to the company.

Su Mu had been absent from the studio for nearly four days and hadn’t seen Su Shiyue for a few days either, so she hadn’t anticipated that upon seeing Su Shiyue again, she would notice a change in her, but not the one of being in love as before. Su Mu thought she looked heartbroken.

But how could she be heartbroken over a relationship with Yu Qingzhou that had never started?

All morning, Su Shiyue was distracted, eventually locking herself in the conference room, hiding away. Initially, Su Mu did not intervene, letting her be. After all, external advice often doesn’t help much in these situations, and the only way to get through it is by coming to terms with it oneself.

However, Su Mu had let Su Shiyue be all morning, and when lunchtime came without Su Shiyue leaving the conference room, Su Mu decided to forgo her lunch plans with Lin Ning, sighing reluctantly:

"You go ahead, I’m going to check on Shiyue."

Lin Ning glanced in the direction of the conference room and nodded:

"She has been like this for two or three days. It does indeed look quite hard on her, such a lively and cheerful girl."

Su Mu smiled:

"I know."

After Lin Ning left, Su Mu headed straight to the conference room. The door wasn’t locked by Su Shiyue from the inside; instead, everyone knew she was in a bad mood and didn’t want to disturb her. When Su Mu opened the door, Su Shiyue, who had been lying on the table, stirred and looked up. Recognizing Su Mu, she slightly twitched her lips:

"Sister-in-law."

Su Mu smiled and approached, sitting beside Su Shiyue: "I’m about to go for lunch, do you want to join me?"

Su Shiyue shook her head:

"I’m not hungry."

"Have you not figured it out after a whole morning here alone?"

Su Shiyue was silent for a few seconds before speaking. She looked at Su Mu, her eyes red: "Sister-in-law, I don’t understand. You can probably tell that he treats me differently, right? Even though he seems to be coming to the studio to take pictures, I have a feeling that his purpose is me. He comes to see me."

Su Mu looked at Su Shiyue, not speaking, but also not denying her guess.

"But we’ve been ambiguous for so long, and I felt it was time. He still hasn’t made a move, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a girl confessing her interest. As long as two people genuinely like each other, what does it matter? So I confessed to him, but do you know how he responded?"

"It’s clear that he rejected you."

"Yes, he rejected me, telling me that I was thinking things I shouldn’t, that he and I could never be together in this lifetime. If I can’t put away these feelings for him, then there’s no need for us to see each other anymore."

Su Mu frowned slightly; based on Su Shiyue’s words alone, she couldn’t tell what had happened. No matter how cruel Yu Qingzhou’s words were, there was nothing wrong with them. If he never intended to accept Su Shiyue, his current cruelty was really a mercy.

But seeing the once vivacious girl turn into the dispirited figure before her, Su Mu couldn’t help but feel pained:

"So, what do you plan to do?"

"I don’t know. I think he didn’t say those things lightly and didn’t seem to be playing hard to get. He said it’s impossible, and I can feel that he truly hasn’t considered going down that path, so I’ve decided to give up..."

"But you can’t do it?"

"Yes." Su Shiyue gave a bitter smile: "I can’t. I tried to distract myself by keeping busy and to not think of him by drinking, but even then, he still invades my dreams. I just can’t control it."
