Chapter 554: Chapter 554: When Pain Reaches Its Extreme, Understanding Comes

Su Mu wanted to say that she really understood how Su Shiyue felt at that moment because she probably went through something similar when she had just left Fu Shinian. She couldn’t remember how long it lasted, but it did trouble her for a long while. She also didn’t know what she did about it until one day, when she saw his news on TV and suddenly realized that she hadn’t thought about him for a long time.

But not thinking about him didn’t mean she no longer liked or loved him. After all, the moment she saw him, Su Mu could clearly feel her heartbeat quicken, along with that lingering ache.

Now, Su Shiyue was enduring what she had endured, but she couldn’t offer her any good advice. She could only gently pat her on the shoulder:

"Actually, I could tell you had feelings for Yu Qingzhou the first time you met him. However, Wei Shaoqin said that although Yu Qingzhou treated you specially, it didn’t seem like love. Later on, I also told you not to fall too deep, and you said you knew, but now it seems that you haven’t really taken my words to heart."

Su Shiyue chuckled:

"How can one possibly stay rational when it comes to feelings? If you had stayed rational, perhaps you wouldn’t have married my brother in the first place."

"Yes, you are right. So I was just giving you a heads up, not trying to stop you." Su Mu sighed, "Now that you’ve fallen, I can only comfort you, not pull you up, because you need to walk out of it on your own to truly be out of it. Other people’s persuasion doesn’t really work."

Su Shiyue nodded:

"I know, sister-in-law. It’s already very good of you to stay here and talk with me."

"What do you plan to do next?" Su Mu looked at Su Shiyue. "If you’re not in the mood to stay in the studio, I think it would be nice for you to go out and get some fresh air, or go back to Gui Ning Residence. Qiqi has been missing you for a long time, and you haven’t been back for a while."

Su Shiyue was silent for a few seconds:

"I’ll think about it."

Su Mu wasn’t sure if it was her misconception, but she always felt that Su Shiyue still harbored the illusion of giving it another try. She did not stop her because she couldn’t be sure whether experiencing the utmost pain was the way suitable for Su Shiyue. After all, in love, what was never lacking was the mindset of not turning back until one hits the wall, and upon reaching the limits of one’s thoughts, perhaps then, one would understand.

Su Mu promised Su Shiyue not to tell Fu Shinian about her situation, so even though Su Shiyue wasn’t doing well at the moment, Su Mu kept silent.

Until one night, after Qiqi fell asleep, Fu Shinian tried to bring Su Mu to the guest room again. She had no choice but to agree, but just at the last moment, her phone rang. Fu Shinian originally didn’t want to care, seeing that it was so late, but when he picked up the phone from the nightstand to turn it off, he found that the caller was Su Shiyue.

"Who is it?"

Fu Shinian handed the phone to Su Mu: "Shiyue."

Su Mu suddenly felt like she couldn’t keep it secret any longer. She glanced at Fu Shinian subconsciously and didn’t even intend to answer the call. Fu Shinian noticed her unease and smiled slightly, "Not answering?"

"It shouldn’t be anything important. Today I asked her to learn photo editing by herself, and it’s probably about work."

After saying that, the ringing stopped. Although Fu Shinian could tell that Su Mu was acting unnaturally, he did not pursue it any further. After all, he had more important things to deal with. But just as he leaned down and almost kissed her lips, the ringing sounded again.

Fu Shinian’s movements paused, as he propped himself up slightly and looked at Su Mu with an amused expression:

"What kind of difficult task did you assign her that she’s still calling you at this time of the night?"

Su Mu smiled, yet she still didn’t press the answer button. Fu Shinian chuckled, got off her, and sat on the bed, slowly starting to dress. Su Mu knew by his actions that she had to answer the call. Begrudgingly, she pressed the answer button and then heard the deafening voice from the other end. Su Mu frowned slightly:

"Shiyue?"

There was no response from the other side. Su Mu couldn’t help but worry: "Shiyue?"

She still didn’t speak. A few seconds later, a stranger’s voice came through the phone, saying, "Are you a family member of this guest? She’s drunk at our bar. If it’s convenient, could you please pick her up?"

After asking for the address, Su Mu immediately got up. Fu Shinian stood by the bed watching Su Mu’s anxious demeanor and advised her:

"Take it slow, no rush."

Su Mu glanced at him, but she was in too much of a hurry to say anything. She went straight to the master bedroom to change. Meanwhile, Fu Shinian directly went to Auntie Lin’s room, asking her to look after Qiqi, so she wouldn’t wake up crying in the middle of the night, finding neither her nor Su Mu.

When the two of them left the house, it was already 15 minutes later. It was late at night, and the weather was cool. Fu Shinian asked Su Mu to wait at the entrance while he drove the car to the front before letting Su Mu get in. It was only after Su Mu got in the car that she realized Fu Shinian had never once asked her for a reason.

She couldn’t help but glance at him. Fu Shinian was focused on driving, but he was very sensitive to Su Mu’s gaze, smiling slightly:

"What are you looking at me for?"

"Do you know something?"

"Is there something that I should know but don’t?"

Su Mu: "...No."

"Mhm, I also think my wife wouldn’t hide anything from me."

"Don’t talk nonsense. I am not your wife."

Su Mu turned her gaze to the window, but since it was late at night, and even though there were street lights, the outside was still pitch black, which looked quite scary. Just as she was about to look away, Fu Shinian suddenly reached out and held her hand:

"You’re scared easily, don’t look outside."

He paid attention to all the little details, and so Su Mu would often be touched by him. Seeing that the road ahead was spacious, she clasped his hand back, exerting a little force. Fu Shinian glanced at her and smiled faintly:

"Susu, what you said just now reminded me of something."

"What?"

"I’ve never mentioned it to you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to. I just don’t want to pressure you." Fu Shinian looked at her, "Can you guess what I’m trying to say?"

He made it so clear, and Su Mu was no fool. With a little thought about what they had just discussed, she quickly knew what he was implying. Fu Shinian was right; he had indeed never mentioned remarriage, and Su Mu had subconsciously ignored this issue. It wasn’t that she resisted but rather felt it unnecessary.

Su Mu’s silence made Fu Shinian a bit anxious:

"Did my words cause you upset? Don’t overthink it. I’m not insistent on remarrying. I’m already very satisfied with our current life. I was just bringing it up. If it makes you unhappy, I will never mention this topic to you again."
