Chapter 540: Chapter 540: Hard Work, Delivering Food Over a Thousand Miles
Su Mu was still working, and Fu Shinian also hoped that she could finish up soon, so the call didn’t last too long. After a few reminders, he hung up and told her to go back early so that she could finish up early. However, what Fu Shinian didn’t know was that today’s filming was mainly night scenes, and perhaps they wouldn’t be able to finish that early.
An hour later, Fu Shinian’s call came through again, but this time he didn’t call Su Mu, but instead called Su Shiyue. Su Shiyue had no idea about the previous phone conversation between Su Mu and Fu Shinian, nor was she aware that Su Mu had lied to Fu Shinian about finishing her work, so when she answered Fu Shinian’s call, she yawned lazily:
"Brother, it’s so late, why aren’t you asleep yet?"
Hearing the messy noise on Su Shiyue’s end, Fu Shinian knew that work was probably not done yet, and his brow furrowed slightly:
"Are you still shooting?"
"Yes, today we’re shooting night scenes, we might not finish until after midnight, are you looking for sister-in-law? Should I pass the phone to her?"
Fu Shinian was silent for a few seconds:
"No need."
With that, he hung up.
What would passing the phone to Su Mu change? The ongoing work would still continue, and Su Mu would not end the work because of his dissatisfaction. Moreover, being far away in Shen City, he could provide little to no help to Su Mu—calling more would only extend her work time.
But he couldn’t help feeling distressed and powerless.
When Su Mu finished her work, it was already nearly three o’clock after midnight. Fortunately, both the short film and the photos turned out to be satisfactory, but everyone was already extremely tired. Lin Ning yawned and confirmed tomorrow’s work with Su Mu. Su Mu glanced at the schedule and then at the team, who had no more energy to spare, and said to Lin Ning:
"Let’s take a break tomorrow, there’s no rush."
Although this was what everyone wished for, Lin Ning still felt unsure: "The schedule was agreed upon with the manufacturers beforehand, is this alright?"
"It’s fine. We arrived today and started working immediately without any rest. No one can withstand that. Besides, filming is all about the feel. You talk to the manufacturers first, if not, I’ll talk to them. Let them have a good rest first."
Lin Ning nodded:
"How exactly do you make money as a boss? You don’t exploit your employees, you consider them, and you’re ready to offend your bread and butter."
Su Mu smiled upon hearing this:
"I’m not earning less money; I just understand how to maximize benefits. I put myself in the shoes of my employees, take care of them, and they naturally work even harder for me."
"Business shark," Lin Ning laughed in reply: "Since you’ve decided, I’ll go notify them."
When Lin Ning informed them, the originally listless set instantly came to life, with some shouting that they would follow Su Mu for life, and others teasingly saying, ’Sister Su, are you giving us a day off because your husband is coming?’ To their teasing, Su Mu just smiled and occasionally responded, creating a lively atmosphere until they returned to the hotel and everyone went to their rooms.
Su Mu was exhausted after washing up and almost immediately fell asleep. Though her period didn’t cause her pain, she still felt sore all over from standing almost all day, and she absolutely adored this intimate contact with the bed.
She didn’t know how long she had slept when she vaguely heard the sound of the door opening, but she was so tired and believed in the hotel’s security, so she fell back into a deep sleep. When she next opened her eyes, it was almost noon. She had slept enough, stretched lazily, but still didn’t want to get out of bed, only the call of nature demanded that she get up for the washroom.
Blinking her bleary eyes, as she got up and walked to the toilet, she felt like someone was staring at her. Maybe it was because she had heard a horror story from Lin Ning recently that she felt a chill down her spine. So, when she opened her eyes and saw someone sitting on the sofa, she couldn’t control her own voice in surprise.
Fu Shinian sat quietly, and at the sound of her scream, he instinctively frowned and then smiled faintly:
"When did you become so timid?"
Hearing Fu Shinian’s voice brought Su Mu back to her senses, but she couldn’t calm the agitation in her chest. She looked at him with a particularly resentful gaze:
"How dare you ask? How many times have you scared me recently? Even someone with the biggest courage would be scared by you."
Thinking it over, Fu Shinian did recall doing quite a few similar and nonsensical things recently. Feeling a bit guilty, he stopped speaking, walked up to Su Mu, and gently embraced her: "I was wrong. I won’t scare you anymore, alright?"
Su Mu was still not appeased and pinched him hard on his waist. Not holding back, she made the unprepared Fu Shinian hiss in pain, before releasing her and looking at her:
"Trying to murder your own husband, huh?"
"Yes, and I’m murdering you."
After saying that, Su Mu entered the washroom. Fu Shinian looked at her retreating back, lifted his shirt to check, and saw a red patch—this little girl had been anything but gentle with him recently.
When Su Mu came out of the washroom, she smelled the aroma of food. Her stomach, which wasn’t hungry before, suddenly began to rumble at the sight of the food laid out on the table as if to say ’I’m hungry, I want to eat.’ The room was quiet, so Fu Shinian also heard the sound from Su Mu’s stomach and smiled lightly:
"Come and eat."
Half of Su Mu’s anger dissipated, and not wanting to keep feeling sorry for herself, she stepped over to the table and sat down. She looked around and felt that the food didn’t seem to be made by the hotel, so she turned her gaze to Fu Shinian:
"Did you bring it over?"
"Yes, it was meant for breakfast, but seeing you sleep so soundly, I didn’t call you. Thankfully, the thermal container works well, and it’s still hot. Try it and see if it tastes the same."
Su Mu was surprised:
"You made it?"
"Yes, I made it." Fu Shinian admitted plainly and handed her a pair of chopsticks: "Don’t just stand there, eat up."
Su Mu was taken aback, as even by plane, traveling from Shen City here would take two hours. Caught up in her anger earlier, she hadn’t asked about his journey, but these dishes and the familiar thermal container undoubtedly told Su Mu they were prepared by Fu Shinian at home and brought over.
He had flown over just to bring her a meal?
The food may have lost its original taste—no matter how good the thermal container is, the flavor deteriorates over time—but to Su Mu, it was the most delicious meal she had ever had, surpassing any other moment.
