Chapter 508: Chapter 508: He Comes to Help, Blushing Slightly
Grandma’s question was succinctly answered by Fu Shinian:
"It was just a fall, nothing serious, just some superficial skin wounds."
But grandma didn’t believe it, questioning how such a wound could bleed so much. Yet, she did not insist on this matter any further and hurriedly made way for Fu Shinian to carry Su Mu inside. Fu Shinian carefully carried Su Mu upstairs and gently placed her on the bed, frowning slightly at the sight of her dirty clothes:
"I’ll take you to the bathroom to clean up."
Su Mu felt she really couldn’t lie down in her current state and nodded slightly, but felt embarrassed at the thought of Fu Shinian helping her. However, Fu Shinian seemed to read her mind in the next second, saying:
"It’s not the first time, is there any need to feel shy?"
Su Mu swallowed the words she was about to say, admitting that indeed it wasn’t the first time, and there really was no need to be so self-conscious. Besides, given her current state, even if Fu Shinian harbored any ulterior motives, he wouldn’t act on them, so she relented. Yet, Fu Shinian smiled, prompting Su Mu’s curiosity:
"What are you laughing at?"
"Nothing much, I just think you’re accepting this quicker than I imagined. You haven’t even noticed this change in yourself, have you?"
Su Mu paused, not fully grasping the meaning of Fu Shinian’s words. Before she could think further, she was already in the bathroom, sitting on the edge of the bathtub, watching Fu Shinian preparing for the bath. Su Mu took the moment to reflect on his earlier words.
Her initial instinct was to resist, but upon further thought, she realized that perhaps reality really was as such. Ever since her separation from Wen Han, her acceptance of everything Fu Shinian did around her had grown, even though she sometimes didn’t want to accept it. However, after a few words from Fu Shinian, she found herself less resistant.
Perhaps she had been opposed to Fu Shinian from the start, instinctively wanting to reject him, but it was only because of her identity as Wen Han’s girlfriend that she couldn’t accept what Fu Shinian offered.
After the bath, Su Mu’s face was too red to look at, she didn’t know if it was because of the hot water or because the person helping her bathe was Fu Shinian. Although he was very proper throughout the process, without a hint of inappropriate thought, it still felt somewhat unnatural. Su Mu had to admire her own tolerance for being able to accept the situation.
Carrying her back to the bed, Fu Shinian then went to pour her a glass of warm water and handed it to her:
"Take your medicine."
It was summer, and if those wounds were to become infected, it would not be a trivial matter. Su Mu was also worried because of her job, so she obediently consumed her medicine. After she was done, Fu Shinian took the remaining half glass of water from her hand and drank it back.
Su Mu was stunned, but said nothing, because she could imagine the kind of response Fu Shinian would have if she raised any objections, and she did not want to disagree unpleasantly.
After pouring another cup of hot water and placing it beside the bedside table, Fu Shinian finally spoke calmly:
"Get some sleep for now. I’ll come up to call you for dinner."
Su Mu had been tossing and turning most of the day, and having suffered unbearable pain in the hospital earlier, her arm was still painful but she was mostly just tired. She nodded, "Okay, remember to call Qiqi later and ask her to come back early."
"I know," Fu Shinian replied, then he leaned down and kissed Su Mu’s forehead, "Sleep now, I’ll leave after you’ve fallen asleep."
Su Mu thought she would find it hard to fall asleep with Fu Shinian by her side, but in fact, she lost consciousness shortly after closing her eyes. What she didn’t know was that among the pills she took, Fu Shinian had mixed in a sleeping pill, a decision he had made after discussing with Qiao Yu, knowing that the pain from her wounds would be hard for her to endure and worried that she wouldn’t rest well.
Seeing her sleep soundly now, Fu Shinian felt his decision was justified.
He gently covered her with the blanket, ensuring she was sleeping comfortably, before finally leaving the bedroom and quietly closing the door.
Downstairs, grandma was still waiting, but Fu Shinian’s explanation remained the same — it was just a fall. Besides that, he offered no further details. Seeing his readiness to leave the house, grandma frowned:
"Are you going out?"
"Yes, there’s something I need to handle," Fu Shinian responded.
"Susu is injured, can’t you stay at home with her? What is more important than Susu right now? Don’t forget, she’s back now, but ultimately, it’s for Qiqi. If you don’t put in more effort, she will leave again."
Fu Shinian raised an eyebrow, seemingly unclear as to how grandma knew, but he simply smiled and reassured her:
"Don’t worry, I have it under control."
He walked to the door, but then turned back to instruct:
"Susu has taken her medicine and is sleeping. Don’t go upstairs to disturb her until I return."
Fu Shinian’s trip out was not for official business, but a call he had made to Ji Nanfeng before descending the stairs, asking him to meet up. Ji Nanfeng probably had already received the news and, after a few seconds of silence, provided the location. Fu Shinian noted the address and then ended the call without further discussion.
The drive wasn’t slow. When Fu Shinian arrived at the club 20 minutes later, Ji Nanfeng had already arrived. The manager personally led him to the door of the private room, then respectfully left. Fu Shinian looked at the tightly closed door in front of him, pushed it open, and entered.
In the past, Ji Nanfeng in such places would always be surrounded by people, indulging in pleasures even after getting married, though he had some temperate periods. However, not long after, he returned to his old ways. Today, however, was surprising. The room was seated only by himself, with just one light on. He lay back on the sofa, eyes closed, his entire being shrouded in darkness, appearing exceptionally exhausted.
Fu Shinian turned on the light, and the sudden brightness made Ji Nanfeng uncomfortable. He raised his arm to shield his eyes, squinting towards the door, taking a while to adjust to the light. With a faint sound, he adjusted his sitting position and poured himself a glass of wine:
"Have you arrived?"
Fu Shinian closed the door and took a seat on the sofa opposite him:
"What’s going on with you?"
It had been several days since they last met, but Ji Nanfeng’s appearance could not simply be described as disheveled; he looked more like someone who had just escaped from a wilderness, his beard stubble not even trimmed, showing traces of blue.
Hearing Fu Shinian’s question, Ji Nanfeng curled his lips slightly:
"What can be going on? Just nothing to do, didn’t go out, stayed at home, and didn’t bother grooming."
Fu Shinian obviously didn’t believe this explanation, but he didn’t continue to inquire. If Ji Nanfeng wasn’t willing to open up, no matter what he said, it wouldn’t change anything. After a few seconds of silence, Fu Shinian lit a cigarette, and amidst exhaled smoke, he asked:
"Did you hear about today’s events?"
