Chapter 509: Chapter 509: Dilly-dallying, even affectation
Ji Nanfeng paused for a moment, then nodded:
"Um, Jiang Bei called me."
Su Mu thought Jiang Bei wouldn’t contact Ji Nanfeng. She wasn’t wrong, but that was based on the premise that the injured person wasn’t Su Mu. Only then would she not alarm Ji Nanfeng and handle it herself. However, now that Su Mu was injured, both Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu were aware of the situation, and since the woman who injured her was Ji Nanfeng’s, Ji Nanfeng must give an explanation regardless.
This explanation couldn’t be represented by Jiang Bei; it had to be Ji Nanfeng himself. Therefore, when Fu Shinian called Ji Nanfeng, he agreed to come and appeared before him.
Fu Shinian had no look of surprise, just watched Ji Nanfeng coolly:
"What are you thinking?"
Ji Nanfeng finished the red wine in his glass: "The one injured is your woman, how do you want to handle it? However you want to vent, just go ahead, I have no objections."
"That is your woman."
Ji Nanfeng snorted:
"Shinian, we’ve grown up together and you should be the person in the world who understands me best. Do you really think I’d prefer Qiao Na to Jiang Bei? If my taste were truly that poor, you and Qiao Yu wouldn’t have tolerated me for so long, right?"
"I didn’t say that."
Ji Nanfeng looked at Fu Shinian: "Do you know something?"
"I have speculations, but they are just speculations. I can’t figure out what you really want to do?" Fu Shinian looked at Ji Nanfeng: "You’ve been after Jiang Bei for so many years, and although it may not be sincere, she’s someone you’ve sought for many years. But your recent actions make me feel like you want... a divorce?"
Ji Nanfeng chuckled, a laugh that lasted for a long time, and eventually, tears started to flow. Fu Shinian watched, his brows slightly furrowed, but ultimately he didn’t say anything until Ji Nanfeng stabilized his mood and then spoke:
"Yes, you’re right. I want a divorce."
Fu Shinian remained silent.
"The child in Qiao Na’s stomach isn’t mine either. Otherwise, even if I were a scoundrel or not human, would I let Rong Shen harm my child? Would I still want to mess around?"
Fu Shinian snorted lightly:
"Hmm, probably only you and Qiao Na know the child isn’t yours. The whole Shen City thinks Rong Shen killed your child."
"I know the truth myself." Ji Nanfeng indifferently said: "Qiao Na did have a time with me, but that was before our marriage. I’ve never taken her to heart, nor have I taken any woman before her seriously, and I would certainly not tolerate her carrying my child. She came with her schemes and purposes, and I just took advantage of that."
Fu Shinian helplessly shook his head:
"What’s her purpose?"
"Didn’t you just guess it right? Divorce."
"You couldn’t have said it directly? Why go through such a big roundabout?" Even Fu Shinian couldn’t comprehend Ji Nanfeng’s actions at the moment: "You haven’t seen Jiang Bei recently, have you? She’s pregnant but thinner than before. I won’t believe there’s no credit to you in this, regardless, the child in Jiang Bei’s stomach is yours, aren’t you interested in it?"
Ji Nanfeng lowered his head without speaking, then seemingly chuckled lightly, though Fu Shinian couldn’t see clearly.
Silence spread between the two men for a long time, Fu Shinian looking at Ji Nanfeng with an indescribable oppression. He, Ji Nanfeng, and Qiao Yu grew up together, the man he remembered was flamboyant and unrestrained, with cunning and ruthless methods, someone who was respected in Shen City and called ’Third Master’ by many. Yet, such a character was now in a state of disarray, looking as if he was abandoned.
Fu Shinian sighed, stood up, not intending to leave, but Ji Nanfeng mistook it as him wanting to leave. The last thing Ji Nanfeng wanted now was to be alone. He had locked himself in his apartment for days, feeling like he was about to collapse, desperately needing someone to talk to, but he seemed to have no reason to keep Fu Shinian around, hence he said:
"She never truly loved me!"
Fu Shinian’s steps toward Ji Nanfeng halted in disbelief:
"Is that why you’ve gone through such a big roundabout?"
"Yes, it is because of this."
At this moment, Fu Shinian truly didn’t want to talk, seeming to have a new understanding of Ji Nanfeng, that he never really knew him, not aware that he could also be so melodramatic.
—
Upon leaving the clubhouse, Fu Shinian called Qiqi, and she answered quickly with a cheerful tone:
"Daddy, did you miss me?"
Considering the princess had stood him up this morning, Fu Shinian was initially set to show an angry face, but hearing such a sweet voice, he couldn’t bring himself to be angry and slightly smiled:
"Yes, I missed you, my princess. When are you coming home?"
"I am in Uncle Wei’s car right now, he’s sending me back. Daddy, you don’t need to pick me up, I will be home soon." Qiqi paused, then added: "How about Su Mu? Is she with you?"
Recalling the incident where Su Mu was injured, Fu Shinian thought for a moment then decided not to tell her over the phone:
"Su Mu is home and sleeping now."
"Then I’ll wake her up once I’m home."
"Qiqi," Fu Shinian stopped her: "I’m heading home too, I don’t know who will get there first, but promise me, before I return, do not go upstairs to disturb Su Mu’s sleep, okay?"
Qiqi was silent for a few seconds, not asking why, yet she agreed:
"I understand."
After hanging up, Fu Shinian drove towards Bishui Yuntian, coincidentally arriving at about the same time as Wei Shaoqin, their cars meeting at the gate, both stopping simultaneously, the two men sitting in their cars exchanging glances from afar, then each getting out of their cars.
Qiqi jumped out of Wei Shaoqin’s car and directly ran into Fu Shinian’s arms:
"Daddy, Qiqi missed you."
Fu Shinian smiled, planting a kiss on her cheek: "Hmm, I missed you too. Did you have fun?"
"So much fun. Uncle Wei took me to many fun places, I want to go again next time."
Fu Shinian smiled, looking at Wei Shaoqin, and said:
"Thank you for your troubles."
"No trouble at all, Qiqi is also my daughter, accompanying her is something I should do."
Although initially Fu Shinian wasn’t very approving of Wei Shaoqin acting as Qiqi’s dad, after listening to Su Mu, his jealousy subsided significantly. Hearing him say this now, he felt no discomfort, nodding:
"Let’s go back first, another time for a gathering."
As Fu Shinian turned to take Qiqi back to the car, Wei Shaoqin stopped him with his steps, just glancing at Qiqi, seemingly wanting to speak but stopping himself, Fu Shinian understood, placed Qiqi in the car first, then returned to Wei Shaoqin:
"Something you want to say?"
