Chapter 506: Chapter 506: Better to Divorce Than to Suffer

"It was just a threatening remark, but Qiao Na froze on the spot as if someone had struck her pressure point. Others might not have noticed, but Qiao Na actually felt the murderous intent in Jiang Bei’s eyes as she looked at her.

She’s a tough character, Ji Nanfeng had said, but this was the first time Qiao Na believed it.

Jiang Bei stopped paying attention to her and only returned to Su Mu’s side after watching the mall security take Qiao Na away. Concern etched on her face upon seeing Su Mu’s bloody arm: "I’ll take you to the hospital."

Su Mu’s injuries were not something Jiang Bei could take lightly; she directly called Qiao Yu. Over the phone, Jiang Bei had spoken lightly about it. Qiao Yu thought it wasn’t a serious matter, but upon seeing Su Mu’s blood-soaked arm, he was shocked and quickly approached her: "What happened?"

"Let’s not talk about that right now; quickly deal with the wound."

Qiao Yu responded and hurriedly took Su Mu to the emergency room. Some glass had pierced into her flesh, and the disinfection and cleaning process was the most painful part. Su Mu’s face turned white, and as a doctor, Jiang Bei knew how much discomfort she was in, yet she was helpless to assist. At this time, Su Mu still managed to show concern for her:

"Qiao Yu, have a doctor check on Jiang Bei too. She was almost hit just now, and she’s pregnant; I’m worried something might happen."

The more Qiao Yu listened, the more afraid he became, but he didn’t dare to be careless. Just as he was about to call a nurse, Jiang Bei stopped him: "Don’t bother; I’m fine."

"You should still get checked out; you don’t look very well."

"I am a doctor; I know my own body. Don’t worry about me." Jiang Bei looked at Su Mu: "Take care of Su Mu first, I’ll step outside for a moment."

When Jiang Bei left the emergency room, she ran into Fu Shinian. Without asking why he was there, most likely it was Qiao Yu who had informed him. Jiang Bei greeted him indifferently, and Fu Shinian paused to glance at her:

"Are you alright?"

Jiang Bei shook her head: "Go see Su Mu; she’s injured."

Fu Shinian didn’t say anything more and stepped inside. Jiang Bei, watching his receding figure, suddenly realized something – she shouldn’t have stopped Su Mu from returning to Fu Shinian. No matter the right and wrongs of the past, Fu Shinian still liked Su Mu. Because of that affection, he wouldn’t let her suffer in the days to come.

Su Mu felt she was at her limit, but Qiao Yu’s cleaning was still ongoing. She bit her lips until they bled, unable to help asking:

"How much longer until it’s healed?"

Before Qiao Yu could answer, Su Mu looked up to see Fu Shinian striding over. Oddly, the pain didn’t seem as sharp.

Fu Shinian’s brows were tightly furrowed as he approached and seeing the wounds on Su Mu’s arm, his brows deepened further, wanting to touch her but unsure where she was uninjured and afraid to carelessly do so. At last, it was Su Mu who spoke up to comfort him: "It’s okay, just superficial wounds."

"Is this what you call okay?" Fu Shinian suddenly burst out, drawing the sideways glances of many around him. He didn’t notice, but after raising his voice, he suddenly felt he shouldn’t have spoken to Su Mu like that. He took a breath and apologized:

"Sorry, I shouldn’t have raised my voice at you."

Qiao Yu, who was treating the wounds, had probably never seen Fu Shinian like this and couldn’t help but glance at him. Fu Shinian had a frustration building in his chest with nowhere to vent, and upon seeing this he raised his voice:

"What are you looking at me for? Hurry up and treat her."

Qiao Yu: "..."

Minor wounds only needed treatment, disinfection, and bandaging, but there was a large wound on the forearm that needed suturing. Qiao Yu looked at Su Mu:

"I’m skilled, but it will still hurt. Bear with it for a bit."

Su Mu nodded, before she could speak, Fu Shinian interrupted: "If you’re so skilled, why would it still hurt? If you’re not capable, find someone else to do it."

Qiao Yu finally couldn’t stand it anymore and stood up, glaring at him:

"Then go find one. Who do you think is the best surgeon in this hospital? Do I need to tell you?"

Fu Shinian suddenly fell silent. This was a hospital owned by the Fu Corporation, and Qiao Yu was the best surgeon here; there was no choice—Shinian was just too anxious.

Seeing Fu Shinian deflate, Qiao Yu felt a bit more at ease, snorted coldly: "You’re spoiled."

Compared to the pain of disinfecting and removing the glass earlier, the pain of suturing was really nothing, at least it was easier than Su Mu had anticipated. She finally had the energy to look at Fu Shinian, who had been standing there all along, watching the wound with intense concern.

Whether his concern was genuine was clear to discern; Shinian’s nervousness and tenderness at this moment were not pretend, and inexplicably, they touched a soft spot in Su Mu’s heart. She smiled slightly, and perhaps sensing her gaze, Fu Shinian looked up, frowned slightly, but didn’t ask what she was smiling about. Instead, he took out a tissue and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead, asking:

"Does it hurt?"

Su Mu shook her head: "It’s bearable."

Fu Shinian did not believe her, but what did it matter if he didn’t? Such pain was not something he could take on behalf of Su Mu, yet he was eager to find out exactly what had happened, and he was almost unable to restrain himself from avenging Su Mu.

Su Mu knew she couldn’t hide this and didn’t want to either, as no one could be sure whether Qiao Na would do something to Jiang Bei again. It was Su Mu who was by Jiang Bei’s side this time, but what if Jiang Bei were alone next time—would it be mere injuries then? Getting Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu to give Ji Nanfeng a heads up could be beneficial, making Qiao Na not act so recklessly.

After recounting the incident in the mall, both Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu frowned. Qiao Yu spoke first:

"That outrageous?"

Fu Shinian scoffed: "Which one of Ji Nanfeng’s women is any good? It’s just that Nanfeng did not allow them to make such a fuss before. She’s just relying on the fact that she’s carried Nanfeng’s child."

There’s one thing Fu Shinian didn’t say—that Qiao Na dared to be so unrestrained largely because she had some of Nanfeng’s favor. Otherwise, given Nanfeng’s methods, she would probably have died several times over by now. Thinking this, Fu Shinian furrowed his brows.

Su Mu, seeing this, asked:

"What are you thinking?"

"Nothing much," Fu Shinian turned to look at her, smiling faintly.

"I don’t think Jiang Bei will necessarily tell Nanfeng about today’s events. She’s always felt guilty about Qiao Na’s child, which is why she tolerated her tantrum today. But today was lucky; no one can guarantee it won’t happen again." Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian: "If you have time, have a good talk with Nanfeng. Them continuing like this is no solution. Divorce might not necessarily be a bad option."

Upon hearing this, Qiao Yu looked at Su Mu:

"Is that what Jiang Bei thinks?"

Su Mu shook her head: "Even in front of me, Jiang Bei doesn’t want to talk about her and Nanfeng’s issues. I just feel, why torment each other like this? Neither is happy. It’s better to let go of each other sooner rather than later."
