Su Mu was originally next to Jiang Bei, and while trying on shoes, she felt that another pair was also nice and wanted to bring them over for Jiang Bei to try. Jiang Bei couldn’t walk away and just looked at her indifferently:

"What exactly have I done to you?"

"You know better than anyone how I lost my baby."

Jiang Bei slightly frowned but said nothing. Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei and felt an unexpected pang of heartache. She knew Jiang Bei well and that she was intolerant; such matters would have made her fight it out in the past. Yet now, she had no intention of doing so and endured over and over again, even appearing to not want to defy Qiao Na’s accusations, as if she was willing to take it all.

Su Mu understood that Jiang Bei had never truly let go of that child. Though she wasn’t directly responsible, the reason Rong Shen took such actions was entirely because of her, and she felt that she was ultimately responsible.

However, Su Mu did not think so. During the silence from Jiang Bei, Su Mu stood in front of her and spoke:

"Miss Qiao, you might be mistaken. It wasn’t Jiang Bei’s intention for your child to suffer an accident. She is a doctor; she wouldn’t do such a thing."

"So you’re implying that I’m framing her?" Qiao Na huffed lightly: "Who the father of my baby is, I don’t need to tell you. In all of Shen City, there aren’t many who’d dare touch Third Master’s woman. Didn’t you have a gangster boyfriend before? If he wants to stand up for you, I think it’s not impossible, right?"

Su Mu didn’t expect Qiao Na to know so much about Jiang Bei’s past, but it wasn’t surprising either. She replied indifferently:

"Putting the child’s issue aside, even if it truly were Jiang Bei’s doing, what makes you think you have the right to confront us?"

Su Mu looked around at the onlookers and smiled faintly:

"There’s no need for me to emphasize what status you hold—a mistress who wrecked someone’s family and brazenly got pregnant, flaunting in front of the legitimate wife. Perhaps your dignity is worth little to you, but we don’t wish to be mentioned in the same breath as you. If you feel aggrieved, go find Ji Nanfeng; maybe he can render you justice."

Qiao Na scoffed coldly:

"Of course I will go find Ji Nanfeng. Yet Ji Nanfeng somehow still respects Jiang Bei for once having slept in his bed, so he won’t be absolutely ruthless. But I can’t swallow the anger inside me. Even if I am the mistress, and I did disrupt her family, what wrong did my child do to deserve paying with its life?"

Su Mu was about to say something else but was held back by Jiang Bei, who emerged from behind her, still expressionless and with a casual tone, she asked:

"What do you want to do?"

"An eye for an eye, a life for a life." Qiao Na’s gaze landed on Jiang Bei’s belly: "I want your child’s life as compensation."

Right after she spoke, before Jiang Bei could react, Qiao Na ran over like a madwoman and charged straight at Jiang Bei. "Then what are you doing? Without the child, you could fully exploit his pity and sympathy to stay by his side. But if you continue like this, what do you think he will do? Everyone has self-awareness. Do you think Ji Nanfeng likes you? Likes you enough that for your sake, he could give up his legitimate child, his wife? If today it wasn’t for Su Mu blocking you and the child actually got lost because of you, you probably wouldn’t even know how you’d die."

Qiao Na tried to say something, but Jiang Bei cut her off:

"Qiao Na, it’s the child I’m sorry for, not you. I’m tolerating you this time also because of that child, and only this once. If you don’t believe it, you can try."
