Chapter 503: Qiqi and Shaoyuan, Plan in the Long Run
Chapter 503: Chapter 503: Qiqi and Shaoyuan, Plan in the Long Run
Qiqi was so delighted about the news that she first wanted to tell Wen Shaoyuan and share the happiness with him. So, the first thing she did was not to return to her seat but jubilantly rushed upstairs, saying as she ran:
"I need to tell Brother Yuan this news. He will definitely be happy for me."
Hearing this, Su Mu’s expression stiffened for a moment. Fu Shinian tightened his grip on her hand and said softly:
"You go ahead and eat. I’ll talk to her."
In reality, once it was decided that Qiqi would be given a family, whether it was an act or true affection, Wen Han was to find out sooner or later. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t have been now. The storm from the engagement party had not yet settled, the whole city was in turmoil, and if Qiqi informed Wen Shaoyuan about Su Mu and Fu Shinian getting back together at this time, those who were aware of the children’s conversation wouldn’t think much of it, but those not aware might consider it a demonstration from Fu Shinian.
Regardless, disturbing the Wen Family at this time was ultimately inappropriate.
After Fu Shinian and Qiqi went upstairs, Su Mu’s thoughts turned to Wen Han, and her mood inevitably dipped. Seeing this, the grandmother smiled gently, holding her hand:
"Don’t worry, Shinian will handle it well. Qiqi always listens to him."
Su Mu smiled back but said nothing. The grandmother kept staring at her and, under Su Mu’s puzzled gaze, the grandmother released Su Mu’s hand and said with a light smile:
"Susu, tell your grandma the truth, you and Shinian haven’t really gotten back together, have you?"
The grandmother’s words stunned Su Mu. She instinctively reflected on what she might have done wrong to give herself away, but before she started thinking, the grandmother interrupted her: "Don’t overthink. You and Shinian coordinate well. Qiqi wouldn’t suspect. Even I felt it was real observing you two, but upon closer reflection, I fear it’s not that simple."
Su Shiyue was utterly surprised that the happy occasion had taken such a turn and after a moment of shock, she spoke:
"Grandma, are you joking?"
"I’m not joking," the grandmother smiled and looked at Su Mu: "Susu, grandma understands things. I’m not a foolish old woman, so you can tell me the truth. I am completely on your side."
After pondering for a moment, Su Mu decided to tell the truth:
"Grandma, I haven’t really decided yet. Right now, it’s only for Qiqi."
Although somewhat disappointed, the grandmother still showed understanding. However, Su Shiyue was a bit unsettled: "Sister-in-law, why? You saw Qiqi just now. She must have been looking forward to this day for a long time. If she finds out that you and my brother haven’t really reconciled, then she..."
"Qiqi won’t know," the grandmother reassured. "Susu and Shinian know their limits."
Su Mu appreciated the gesture, smiled gratefully, and said no more, letting the topic rest there for the moment.
After a while, Fu Shinian came down the stairs, holding Qiqi who was still in high spirits, showing no discontent. Seeing everyone looking at her, Qiqi smiled and said:
"Why are you all looking at me like that, let’s eat."
After dinner, Su Mu took Qiqi to bathe. Regarding the news at the dinner table, Qiqi seemed almost disbelieving as she held Su Mu’s hand and asked solemnly again:
"Mu Mu, have you really reconciled with Dad?"
Su Mu smiled, "Isn’t that what you’ve always hoped for? Now that we’re back together, why don’t you believe it?"
Qiqi shook her head:
"What about Uncle Wen then?"
Su Mu hadn’t expected Qiqi to bring up Wen Han, but she didn’t see a reason to hide anything and answered with a smile: "We have separated, it wasn’t suitable."
Qiqi was silent for a while:
"Does that mean I won’t be able to play with Brother Yuan as often?"
Regarding this issue, Su Mu wasn’t sure what to say. She believed Wen Han wouldn’t interfere with the children’s relationship, but if the two children continued to interact as before, the families would inevitably grow close, which wasn’t ideal timing. So, Su Mu didn’t directly answer Qiqi’s question:
"Shaoyuan will be starting school soon, and you’ll be going to kindergarten. It will be busy during this period. After this time passes, I’ll take you to see Shaoyuan, okay?"
Qiqi nodded, reassured by the affirmative answer, and soon put this issue out of her mind, as she had another concern she cared about more. She looked at Su Mu with a beaming smile and asked:
"Mu Mu, in the future, can I always sleep with you and Dad?"
During their life as two, Qiqi had longed to be in the same room, on the same bed with Su Mu, but Su Mu, for Qiqi’s independence, had reluctantly made her go to her own room. However, under the current circumstances, this idea took a radical turn. Instead of her and Fu Shinian pretending in one room, it was better for Qiqi to sleep between them, as then Fu Shinian would be cautious about doing anything to her.
Su Mu nodded:
"Yes, you can in the future."
Ignoring the bubbles on her, Qiqi hugged Su Mu’s neck and planted a big kiss on her: "Mu Mu, I really really love you."
Su Mu smiled softly: "I love you too."
When they left the bathroom, Fu Shinian, who had already showered and was dressed in loungewear, came over to pick up Qiqi, looking at Su Mu: "Go take your shower, I’ll take care of her."
Su Mu had no worries and went back to the bathroom. When she came out, to her surprise, Qiqi was still awake, sitting with Fu Shinian, a pair big and small, leaning on the bed reading a storybook. Fu Shinian glanced up at Su Mu, then continued reading. Su Mu, watching, couldn’t help but smile at her lips.
She lingered in front of the dressing table for a while, somewhat dazed, not even quite sure what she was thinking about until Qiqi called her over, and she snapped back to her senses and walked over to sit next to Qiqi.
Fu Shinian continued accompanying Qiqi with the storybook, not reading aloud anymore. His gaze rested on the book, patiently explaining to Qiqi whenever she had questions until she understood. Su Mu quietly accompanied them, not speaking. After a while, as Qiqi read smoothly and didn’t speak for a long time, Fu Shinian finally let his gaze fall on Su Mu’s face, looking at her sleepy appearance, and he smiled slightly:
"We’ll move in a few days."
Su Mu heard him in a daze, not quite making out his words clearly. She opened her eyes to look at Fu Shinian, who was still holding the same pose, looking at the storybook in Qiqi’s hand as if the words he had just spoken were merely her illusion.
